Ruby Mae Allen Goforth
BATESVILLE– Ruby Mae Allen Goforth, 87, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Saturday at Sardis Lake Baptist Church. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Reverend Kevin Crofford officiated. Interment was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Goforth. born June 5, 1921, in East Prairie, Mo., to the late John Leonard and Mattee Mae Shelby Allen, was a a retired waitress and hairdresser. She was a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Leland Goforth.
Survivors include: one son, James Allen Edwards of Belton, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
BATESVILLE– Eurel Stokes Leander Joyner Sr., 83, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at his residence.
Services were Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Joiner, born June 23, 1925, to the late James Martin Joyner and the late Hattie Annice Burnett Joyner, was the retired owner of City Auto Parts. He was a member of Tocowa Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Jerry Joyner Sr.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Lillie Mae Belle Henry Joyner of Batesville; one son, Eurel Leander Joyner Jr. and his wife, Karen of Southaven; one daughter-in-law, Donna Joyner Cook of Courtland; one sister, Louise Harnage of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Cindy Joyner Whitten, Jerry Joyner, Tisha Joyner Wallace and Sandra Aylor; seven great-grandchildren, Blane Joyner, John Mark Whitten, Dylan Whalen, Taylor Paige Gurley, Kaleb Joyner, Cadence Aylor and Emma Claire Wallace.
Memorials may be made to Batesville Magnolia Cemetery, P.O. Box 302, Batesville.
BATESVILLE– Rev. Thomas “Tom” Angus McClain, 88, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at his residence.
Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Richards and Rev. Chet Busch officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
McClain, born Sept. 16, 1920, in Ecorse, Mich., to the late David S. and Ida Weller McClain, attended the Pasadena Nazarene Pacific Bible College and later became the minister of the Artesia Church of the Nazarene in Artesia, New Mexico. This was the first church of the Nazarene in Aretesia. He retired after serving the Lord for 49 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Thelma Marie Conditt McClain of Batesville; one daughter, Esther Marie McClain Richards of Marshalltown, Iowa; one son, Stanley A. McClain of Batesville; 5 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
BATESVILLE– O.D. Partain Jr., 77, died Sunday April 12, 2009, at his residence.
Services will be held on Wendesday at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home with Interment at Forrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Partain was born on February 9, 1932 to Albert O.D. & Lorene Patton Partain.
O.D. was a Classroom Training Instructor for the U.S. Civil Service. He had retired from the United States Air Force after serving in the Korean War.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batesville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Stapp Partain.
Survivors include: two sisters, Joan P. Collins of Marks, Betty P. Reid and husband Leroy, of Lambert; one brother, Robert L. Partain and wife Katie of Oakland; a very special niece, Pam R. Russell of Batesville and nephews, Lee Reid, Ken, Mike and Kevin Collins and Robbie and Steve Partain.
The family asks that memorials be sent to The American Cancer Society.
BATESVILLE– Carrleigh Payton Smith, was stillborn, Friday, April 10, 2009, at Walker Baptist Hospital in Jasper, Ala. She was the daughter of John Patrick Smith and Judy Faye Smith of Batesville.
Services were Monday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Longcreek Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Robert Beaver and her grandparents, Greer and Lavernce Lucius.
Survivors along with her parents include: three sisters, Destinie Faith Smith, Stephanie Lawson and Angelia Smith; her grandparents, John Paul Smith of Meridian and Florence Kay Smith of Batesville and James and Martha McGinnis.
CRENSHAW– Bobbie Thacker Stuart, 65, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at the North Oaks Medical Center in Senatobia.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Stuart, born March 28, 1944, in Tunica, to the late David and Leona Dykes Thacker, was a member of the Sarah Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip G. Stuart.
Survivors include: four sons, David Carlisle Stuart, Phillip L. Stuart, Terry O. Stuart and Terry O. Stuart Jr., all of Crenshaw; two sisters, Patsy Thacker Mitchell of Crenshaw, Judy Thacker Mayo of Sarah; three brothers, Paul Thacker of Olive Branch, Robert Thacker of Lambert and Stanley Thacker of Strayhorn; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
BATESVILLE– Charles Edward Tindall, 67, died Friday, April 10 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford.
Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Gode Hope Cemetery. Rev. Todd Plunkett officiated.
Tindall, Born Aug. 19, 1941 to the late Charles Mitchell Tindall and Lillian Katherine Tindall in Marks was a retired engineer for TVEPA and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife Patsy Frances Tindall or Batesville; two sons, Charles Barry Tindall and Jary Edward Tindall of Hattiesburg; one sister, Shirley Roberson Cox of Batesville, four brothers, Ray Roberson, Dannie Roberson, Ronnie Roberson, and Jimmy Roberson of Batesville; five grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to Good Hope Baptist Church Youth Funds, 1516 Good Hope Rd., Batesville, MS.
BATESVILLE– George “Ted” Wright, 68, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at his residence.
Services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hodges Serenity Funeral Home has charge.
Wright was a retired cable worker for Mastech.
Survivors include: three sisters, Bobbie Brassell, Jessie Carr and Mae Frances Carr, all of Batesville; three brothers, Adolph Carr and Charles Carr of Batesville and James Carr of Kansas City, Kan. and his god-mother, Gennie Todd of Batesville.
