Kenzi Reed stepped to the mound with speeds up to 63 miles per hour with a variety of pitches and a different infield supporting her. Reed pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts to help the Lady Tigers shut out the Starkville Lady Yellow Jackets 10-0 on Friday, to remain undefeated in the district.

The Calvert twins started the route for the Lady Tigers in the bottom of the second. Designated hitter Lindsey Calvert singled and stole second while her sister, first baseman Lauren Calvert was at bat. Lauren hit a double driving in Lindsey for the first run of the game.

Reed struck out the entire side of the Lady Yellowjackets to start the third inning.

Shortstop Hillari Plummer drew a walk, stealing her way home for the second run of the game. Third baseman Meri Morgan Fortune hit a single. Designated runner Crystal Contreras ran for Fortune and scored giving the Lady Tigers a 3-0 lead at the end of three innings.

Lindsey Calvert was hit by a pitch, putting her on first base to start the bottom of the fourth. Like a thief in the night, Lindsey stole her way around the diamond finding home plate for a run.

Lauren Calvert singled followed by catcher Amanda Ivy who singled and advanced Lauren to second. Plummer singled sending Lauren to third. Paige Jordan pounded a single bringing in Lauren for the 5-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Reed and her 63 mile-an-hour speed, stunned the Lady Yellowjackets once again.

Adding runs on the board in the bottom of the frame was Ivy, Plummer, Fortune, second baseman Stormy Robison, and center fielder Jennifer Newcomb for a five-run inning.

“Kenzi stepped on the mound and had to overcome the swelling in her ankle,” said Head Coach Ashleigh Hicks. “She got on the mound and did her job with a totally different infield besides Hillari. That’s what I’ve been trying to preach to her about being a leader no matter what is going on around her.

“Everything else was switched around because we had some things to happen and I felt the ones that I had on the field were the ones that earned a start today,” Hicks continued. “All in all we did a great job with the different lineup and that was good because you never know when they’ll have to be out there. We started a little slow at batting but they finally picked it up. They came through and got the job done.”

The Lady Tigers were back in action on the road last night in Tupelo for a district game and will travel to Desoto Central tonight for a non-district game. Thursday, the Lady Tigers will host district foe Columbus for a rematch at 5 p.m.
