John Malcolm Brooks

TIPPO– John Malcolm Brooks, 55, died Saturday, March 14, 2009. He was the brother of Billy Brooks of Batesville and Eddie Brooks of Pope.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Tippo Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home has charge.

Brooks, born to the late Bill and Mary Brooks, was a trucker.

Survivors along with his brothers include: his wife, Ida Jo Murphey Brooks of Tippo; two daughters, Jacquelyn Brooks and Jaden Brooks, both of Tippo; one son, John Christopher Brooks of Tippo and one sister, Renee Brooks Howard of Texarkana, Texas.

B.C. Coggins Jr.

MARKS– B.C. Coggins Jr. 75, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Saturday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Rev. John Shackleford officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Coggins, born July 10, 1933, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marks. He was a retired truck driver.

Survivors include: his wife, Sadie Coggins of Marks; three daughters, Debbie Green, Sandy Whitworth and Sharon Sullivan, all of Marks; one sister, Shelby Blount of Senatobia; two brothers, Jim Coggins of Locke Station and Lanny Jones of Enid and four grandchildren.

Nine Lou Fisher Coleman

SARDIS– Nine Lou Fisher Coleman, 68, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Quitman County Hospital.

Services were Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Coleman, born June 10, 1940, to the late Luther Fisher and the late Violet McCullar Fisher, was a registered nurse at Quitman County Hospital.

Survivors include: her husband, Stanford “Peter” Eugene Coleman; one daughter, Lisa Boothe of Senatobia; three sons, Michael Kenneth Coleman of Sardis, Stanford Eugene Coleman Jr. and Gregory Duane Coleman, all of Sardis; seven grandchildren, Daniel Tramel of Senatobia, Shane Tramel and Abby Evans all of Sardis, Blake Boothe of Senatobia, Mickey Coleman, Brandon Coleman and Kara Coleman, all of Sardis and one great-grandchild, Hunter Evans of Sardis.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Louise Wadsworth Hall

BONO, Ark.– Louise Hall, 86, died Thursday, March 12, 2009. She was the mother of Robert Wilson Wadsworth of Batesville.

Memorial services were Sunday with Dr. Gene Crawley officiating at Emerson Funeral Home. Emerson Funeral Home had charge.

Hall, born July 23, 1922, to the late Rev. L.R. and Eddie Mai Bibb Wadsworth, attained an associate’s degree in business at Lambuth College in Jackson, Tenn., and worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for over 50 years until her retirement at age 75. She was a member of Hernando United Methodist Church.  

 Survivors along with her son include: one daughter, Alice Louise Hayes of Bono; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. 

Memorials in her memory may be made to the Hernando United Methodist Church in Hernando

Susie Smith

OXFORD–Susie Smith, 92, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at her residence.

Services were Saturday at Toccopola Church of Living God in Oxford. Bishop Henrietta Smith officiated. Burial was in Carmel Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Smith, born Dec. 10, 1917, to the late Andy Chatman and the late Gertrude Macey, was a retired cook for the University of Mississippi. She was a member of Toccopola Church of Living God.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mattie B. Crawford and Lola Mosley, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, George Smith and Johnny Ray Smith, both of Oxford and Carlos Smith of Indianapolis; four sisters, Margie Jenkins, Betty Mosley and Lucille Luster, all of Indianapolis, Dorothy Joiner of Evansville, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Katie Mae Hall VanStraten

SENATOBIA–Katie Mae Hall VanStraten, 66, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at her residence. She was the sister of Arthur Hall and Dean Hall of Enid.

Services were Monday at Willow Springs Assembly of God in Enid. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

VanStraten, born Sept. 21, 1942, to the late George Hall Sr. and the late Lula Darby Hall, was retired from St. Francis Hospital as a registered nurse.

Survivors along with her brothers include: her husband, Fred VanStraten of Senatobia; two daughters, Candace Hetterick of Senatobia and Carleen Grisham of Byhalia; two sisters, Edith May of Senatobia and Betty Schroeder of Louisville, Ky. and seven grandchildren, Marly, Damon, McCoy, Braxton, Laurel, Duston and Rylan.

Lillie “Nell” Brunell Bolton Williford

POPE–Lillie “Nell” Brunell Bolton Williford, 86, died  Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Friday at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Williford, born Oct. 26, 1922, to the late William Esker Bolton and the late Zula Francis Baker Bolton, was a homemaker.

Survivors include: one brother, Stanley Bolton of Pope; five grandchildren, Jimmy Williford, George Williford and Jody Williford, all of Batesville, Tiffany Lanham and Megan Williford of Harrodsburg, Ky. and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Chapel Hill Cemetery Funds c/o Helen Bell (First Security Bank).
