Rosetta J. Holmes

BATESVILLE–Rosetta J. Holmes, 94, died Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Regional Medical Center.

Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Liberty Hill M.B. Church. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka A.M.E. Zion Cemetery. Hodges Serenity Funeral Home has charge.

Holmes was a retired farmer.

Survivors include: four daughters, Clara White and Mary Reed, both of Memphis, Leverta Barham of Knoxville, Tenn. and Annie Holmes of Batesville; four sons, David Holmes and Herbert Holmes, of Batesville, Earl Holmes of Memphis and Eddie Holmes of St. Louis; 41 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Rebecca L. “Becky” Johnson

SARDIS–Rebecca L. “Becky” Johnson, 71, died Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Union Cemetery. Rev. Charles Locke and Rev. Marvin Chism officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Johnson, born July 7, 1937, in Maine, to the late George and Ida Michaud Lorrette, was a nurse and private homecare sitter. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Sardis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darel Carlton Johnson.

Survivors include: two daughters, Verna Johnson Brockman of Foley, Ala., Vanessa Johnson Aaron of Courtland; two sons, Bruce Johnson of Abrams, Wis. and Jimmy Johnson of Batesville; two sisters, Theresa L. Richardson of Windsor, Ma., Ella L. Carrasco of Oceanside, Calif.; two brothers, Percy Lorette of East Oakland, Mass., Gordon Lorette of Amherest, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Audie Ray Walker

CROWDER–Audie Ray Walker, 70, died Monday, February 16, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Wednesday at Crowder Assembly of God. Rev. Murphy Eubanks officiated. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Walker, born June 25, 1938, to the late Eugene and Nancy Ollie Kennedy Walker, was a member of Crowder Assembly of God. He was an appliance serviceman.

Survivors include: his wife, Jane Carpenter Walker of Crowder; four daughters, Mary Lois Ware of Crowder, Rhonda Lynn Smothers of Lambert, Vicki Marlene Austin of Courtland and Monique Sheree Griffin of Batesville; two sons, Benny Ray Walker of Sardis and Gary Eugene Walker of Crowder; three brothers, Alvie Walker of Ukiah, Calif., Clifford Walker of Malvern, Ark. and Levi Walker of Resaca, Ga.; three sisters, Joy Smith of Truman, Ark., Florine Walker and Ollie Walker, both of Crowder; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Crowder Assembly of God.

Edith Mae Watson

SARDIS–Edith Mae Watson, 86, died Sunday, February 15, 2009, at her residence.

Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Morris Chapel M.B. Church. Rev. L.H. Harris will officiate. Visitation will begin at noon until service time at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Walker, born February 1, 1923, to the late William Perry and the late Dellia Childs, was a farmer and a member of Morris Chapel M.B. Church.

Survivors include: four daughters, Georgia Hope of Chicago, Jannie Toliver, Della Shorter and Emma Porter, all of Sardis and three sons, Earl Watson, Larry Watson and Joe Watson, all of Memphis.
