The North Delta Lady Green Wave basketball team added another district win to its post after downing DeSoto Thunderbirds in a very tough matchup Monday night.

Though the Lady Green Waves won 51-37, the two teams played tough until the end.

Lady Green Wave Lauren Kimzey was on the offensive warpath as she scored the first basket with 14 seconds off the clock. Due to the Green Wave pressure defense, North Delta forced two quick DeSoto turnovers. With a Bradi Beard field goal at 7:19, the Lady Green Waves led 4-0.

Following a steal by Samantha Massoth, Linsey Hebert hit a three at the 5:38 mark for a 7-2 Green Wave lead. On an offensive rebound and field goal by Sara Waldrip, the Lady Green Wave were up 9-3.

DeSoto staged a comeback pulling within two points, 9-7 with 2:29 left in the first half. Lady Green Wave head coach Phil Douglas called a time out with 2:24 left.

After the time out Kimzey scored after an offensive rebound to put the Lady Wave up 11-7 at the end of the quarter.

North Delta rebuilt the lead to 20-9 on a Waldrip three-pointer with 5:57 left in the first half.

The game picked up speed and intensity throughout the rest of the quarter as the teams were up and down the court in fast-paced action.

North Delta led 26-11 with 2:30 left in the game on a free throw by Kimzey. North Delta was held scoreless the last two and a half minutes of the second quarter as DeSoto went on an 8-0 run for the 26-19 halftime score.

Kimzey opened third quarter scoring hitting a three-pointer at the 7:21 mark for the 29-19 lead which was answered by a DeSoto field goal. The Green Wave’s next score was a three by Waldrip for the 32-21 lead. The teams traded basket the rest of the quarter with North Delta staying at least seven points ahead most of the time. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Green Wave led 39-29.

The first score of the second quarter was a field goal by Waldrip who took the defensive rebound and carried the ball the length of the court for the score, 41-29 with 7:14 left in the game.

North Delta seemed to still have a lot of life left in the fourth quarter and started to pull away and led 47-33 on a Kimzey three-pointer after a Hebert steal at the 3:22 mark.

As the girls were taking the game home, Beard reinjured her right ankle she sprained over the holidays and left the game with 2:24 on the clock.

A field goal by Waldrip with 30.1 seconds left in the game was the final score.

Leading the Lady Green Wave with double-doubles were Kimzey with 17 points, including two three-pointers, 10 rebounds  and seven steals; followed by Waldrip with 16 points, including two three-pointers, 11 rebounds and two steals. Bradi Beard had 11 points, five rebounds, seven steals and two assists.

Hebert scored five points, had four rebounds, and seven assists. Laci DuBravec came off the bench to score two points, had two rebounds, three steals and three assists.
