Elizabeth Broome Florence

BATESVILLE– Elizabeth Broome Florence, 81, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Karen O’Brien will officiate.  Visitation is today at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.  Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Florence, born Oct. 26, 1926, to the late W.C. and Cathrine Anderson Broome in Batesville, was the former owner of Riteway Cleaners. She worked at First Security Bank for over 30 years where she was an assistant cashier and head teller. She was a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Florence and brothers, Harold and David Broome.

Survivors include: three nephews, Tommy Florence, Billy Broome and Dave Broome; six nieces, Margaret L. Florence Barnhart, Sherry Broome Williams, Patty Bryant, Judy Bennette, Becky Curtis and Cathy Broome; 10 great-nieces and nephews and four great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be sent to Batesville Presbyterian Church, 121 Eureka St., Batesville, Miss. 38606.

Mary Alice Little

TUNICA– Mary Alice Little, 79, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto. She was the sister of Christine Bailey Mitchel of Crowder.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Visitation will be today at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forrest Hill South in Memphis. Rev. Mike Rammage and Rev. Lucian Young will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Little, born Dec. 20, 1928, to the late Walter J. and Florie Smith Bailey in Boyle, was a retired nurse’s aid and a cosmetologist. She was a member of Kensington Baptist Church in Memphis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Glenn Little and a sister, Juanita Bailey Douglas.

Survivors along with her sister include: one daughter, Kathy Little Eisenbraun of Hernando; one son, Larry Glenn Little of Horn Lake; two sisters, Jeanette Bailey Hannah of Locke Station and Ella Doris Bailey Gilley of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, James Bailey of Locke Station and Eugene Bailey of Tillatoba; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Jessie “J.C.” McKinney

COURTLAND– Jessie “J.C.” McKinney, 53, died Friday, December 5, 2008, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Concord M.B. Church. Rev. Edward Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. –  11 a.m. at Concord M.B. Church. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

McKinney, born March 14, 1955, in Marks to J.D. McKinney and Annie Roberson McKinney of Batesville, was a mechanic for Crown Cork and Seal and a member of Concord M.B. Church.

Survivors along with his parents include: his wife, Donice McKinney of Batesville; two daughters, Turkessa McKinney and Monica McKinney, both of Batesville; two sons, Rodrick McKinney and Kedrick McKinney, both of Batesville; five sisters, Lucinda McKinney and Shirley Burgess, both of Batesville, Renita Boothe, Sandra McKinney and Roshell McKinney, all of Jackson and three brothers, John McKinney of Batesville, Stanley McKinney of Sardis and Lee McKinney of Gulfport.

Nancy Clower Self

ENID– Nancy Clower Self, 71, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at her residence.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Dr. Robert Self, Dr. David Ball and Dr. Jon Daniels will officiate.

Self, born Sept. 15, 1937, to the late John S. Clower and Louise Lloyd Clower of Hillsboro, was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

She attended school in Forest and graduated high school at age 16. She was a graduate of Mississippi College. She was an educator for 30 years. She taught elementary school in New Orleans, La., while her husband attended seminary, but the majority of her teaching years were in the public school system of the state of Mississippi. She and her husband, Robert, worked alongside each other for over 45 years in the ministry of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Louise Clower, and one brother, John Lloyd Clower.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include: her husband, Dr. Robert E. Self; one daughter, Angie Self Russell  and husband, Van of Oxford; two sons, Robert Todd Self and wife, Donna,  of New Albany and Jon Mark Self and wife, Heather of Nesbit; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
