Batesville Steelers host YFL Super Bowl Saturday

Three years into the program and the 9 and 10-year-old Batesville Steelers team is heading for the Super Bowl.

Better yet, Batesville gets to host the Youth Football League Super Bowl event Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.

The YFL Super Bowl will be held on Tiger Field in R.H. Dunlap Stadium. The 7 and 8-year old game between NFC Champs Grenada and AFC Champs Indianola will kick off at 10 a.m.

The 9 and 10-year old game between NFC Champ Steelers and AFC Champs Charleston will kick off at 11:30 a.m.

The last game is the 11 and 12-year old contest between NFC champs Tupelo and AFC champs Indianola who will play at 1:15 p.m.

Gates will open at 9 a.m.

Batesville is  led on offense by running back/quarterback Darrell “Lights Out” Henderson, who has 1,936 yards and has scored 39 touchdowns this season. He needs 64 yards to go over 2,000 tomorrow.

Other offensive leaders include quarterback Tyler Pogue, Brandon Leland and Jordan Cosby.

Defensive leaders include Braiden Scott, Hunter Bailey, Kamdon Edwards, Tremel Thomas, D.J. Hall and Rodney Shaw.

Head coach of the Steelers is Roosevelt Jones, defensive coach is Kevin Thomas and offensive/defensive line coach is Kendrick Black. Other Steeler coaches include Kendrick Keys, Tavares Lee, Eric Bibbs and James Dean. Fred Hentz is the director of the Batesville YFL.

Batesville is 10-1 overall after defeating Tupelo last week in the north half game 12-0. They played in Grenada.

Charleston comes in with a undefeated record two years running. They are the defending Super Bowl champs from last year.

They have a 11-0 record. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this year.

Charleston is head coached by Cedric Terry and led on offense by quarterback Patrick Alexander Jr.

“We are asking all of our Tigers and Steelers fans to come out and support the young, future South Panola Tigers,” Hentz said.
