Five Northwest Mississippi Community College football players have earned recognition for their outstanding play by being selected for post-season honors.
Northwest finished with an overall record of 6-4 and was runner-up in the MACJC north division with a 5-1 mark.
Heading up the list is sophomore defensive end Chris Strong of Batesville who was named All-Region XXIII and first team MACJC All-State. Strong collected 45 tackles this season for the Rangers, including 41 solos. Strong also had eight tackles for loss, four sacks, and returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown.
Joining Strong on the first team All-State is freshman cornerback Bud Barksdale of Batesville.
Barksdale had 34 tackles and led Northwest with nine pass break-ups. Barksdale also tied for the team-lead with two interceptions.
A trio of Rangers collected second team All-State merits including freshman receiver Marquise Green, and sophomore linebackers Thomas Majors and Chris Clinton.
Green, of Byhalia, led Northwest with 34 receptions for 544 yards and six touchdowns.
Majors, of Nashville, Tenn.., was the Rangers’ leading tackler with 112 total stops. Majors also had 14 tackles for loss, three sacks, and one interception.
Clinton, of Lakeland, Fla., finished second on the team with 87 tackles. He also collected 12 tackles for loss, three sacks, and caused a fumble.
