Edwin Armistead Flint Sr.

BATESVILLE- Edwin Armistead Flint Sr., 84, died Friday, October 17, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Sunday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Flint, born Dec. 30, 1923, to the late Calvin Etley Flint Sr. and Nona Kinchloe Flint, was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he obtained a bachelor’s of science degree in agricultural economics. At State, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He served in WWII as a tech sergeant in the United States Army Medical Corp. Upon finishing at State, he returned to Batesville to join his family’s hardware business. Flint’s Hardware was started by his grandfather in 1889 and remains as Batesville’s oldest store. At the time of his death, he was president and co-owner.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and served on the administrative board. He has served as past president of the Mississippi/Louisiana Hardware Association, the Batesville Rotary Club, the Panola County Mississippi State Alumni Association and the Commander of the American Legion Post 118. For over 50 years he was a MSU football season ticket holder. His love of baseball led him to be a long time supporter of the MSU Diamond Dawgs and a proud member of the South Panola Baseball Diamond Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin E. Flint Jr.

Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, Betty Hawkins Flint; two daughters Nona Rogers and husband Steve of Huntsville, Ala. and Sadie Huene and husband, Rod of Monroe, Ga.; two sons, Edwin A. Flint Jr. of Columbus and Barry Flint and wife Dana of Batesville and seven grandchildren, Cole and wife Amanda, Johnathan Flint of Batesville, Haley and Hannah Hood of Batesville, Matthew and Anna Claire Rogers of Huntsville, Ala. and Barry Kate Huene of Monroe, Ga.

The family requested that memorials be made to the First United Church, 119 Panola Ave., Batesville, Miss. 38606 or the Mississippi State Alumni Association, P.O. Box AA, MSU, Miss. 39762-5526.

John Ray Green

SCOTTSBORO, Ala.- John Ray Green, 69, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Highlands Health and Rehab. He was the father of Holly Green Bridges of Batesville.

Services were Wednesday at Rudder Funeral Home Chapel in Scottsboro. Bro. Clint Graham officiated. Burial was in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.

Green, born to the late James Fletcher and the late Mazie Green, was a U.S. Army veteran and long haul truck driver.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Johnny Ray Green Jr. and Jon Ross Green.

Survivors along with his daughter include: one son and daughter-in-law, Toby and Tracy Green of Courtland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dottie and Joe Northcutt of Foley and Dean and Buck Farley of Dunlap, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Kyle Green, Allie Bridges and Jaiden Green.

Noel Carlton Waits

OXFORD- Noel Carlton Waits, 73, formerly of Batesville, died Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.

Services were Saturday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Don Kleeb officiated. Burial was in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home had charge.

Waits, was a Baptist and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include: his wife, Jane Pearson Waits of Oxford; one daugher, Ellen Waits of Oxford; one son, Roy Waits of Oxford; one sister, Frances Waits Brown of Oxford and one grandaughter.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Mr. Waits memory be made to charity of the donor’s choice.
