With football season heading into the homestretch, its not to early to start thinking about basketball.

The North Delta School Junior High and varsity girls basketball teams tip-off the 2008-’09 roundball season today in the Delta Academy jamboree. The 7th and 8th grade will play a pair of games starting at 2:20 against Tunica and again at 4:25 versus West Memphis, (Ark.). The Junior High girls meanwhile face-off against Lee (Ark.) at 2:45 and again at 4:50 as they take on Bayou.

The Lady Green Wave varsity team finishes the night’s action by tangling with Magnolia Heights at 6:05 followed with a matchup with West Memphis at 8:25. Each game will have a 20 minute running clock.

The hardwood season kicks off in earnest tomorrow as the Green Wave hosts a pre-season tournament with seven games starting at 1:30 with West Memphis junior high taking on Marvell. The North Delta junior high girls take on Magnolia Heights at 6:30 while the varsity girls take the floor at 9:00 against Clarksdale Lee.

Following a week’s hiatus , the tournament will pick back up next Tuesday and Wednesday before concluding on Saturday, October 25.
