Party chairmen weigh in for presidential candidates

(Editor’s note: For the issue on the date of the Great Maybe A Debate in Oxford, Panola County’s party chairmen have submitted, at our request, endorsements of their parties’ nominees.)

McCain/Palin ‘only choice’  according to Republican Land

I am a Republican, through and through. I believe the platform of the Republican party.

Now, John McCain was a terrific choice, in my opinion.  He is a veteran of foreign wars, and experienced the hardships of war, first hand. Being a veteran overseas myself, I am aware of the threats that our country faces each and every time it is involved in a conflict overseas. John McCain has faced tough decisions, as many of you have too, life or death decisions, and he is ready to be our Commander in Chief. His fellow soldiers told of incidents where he could have saved himself, but did not, because he would have left his fellow kinsmen behind. This is the type man we need to make decisions that involve ALL the fellow countrymen and women in the United States of America. Our national defense is one item that we can most definitely leave in John McCain’s hands. He will lead with dignity, knowledge and earn respect in doing.

McCain’s twenty–plus years in Congress have prepared him. He has made connections and knows contacts that he can draw from to obtain any type services or help that America needs. He has experience in collaboration with both sides, and crossing the aisle, if it proves best for the country. He is a true American.

McCain is conservative. He believes in less government involvement and more people involvement. In my opinion, there are moves that need to be made concerning inheritance taxes and death taxes, that need to be made “permanent” or “set in concrete, so to speak.” McCain will try to accomplish this in his tenure.

McCain is Pro-Life. He thinks like most southerners do, that an unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life.

Public Safety is an issue that is necessary for America. McCain’s appointments of Judges on benches will be a primary function. These judges, and those elected by the people, should determine the laws correctly, and follow what the law says, in each instance. They should be hard on criminals and especially habitual offenders. Our safety is at stake, and the safety of our families.

Regarding environment, I have worked and enjoyed our natural resources all my life. I want to see these same resources left intact, so that my children and grandchildren can enjoy them, as I did. I believe John McCain will see to it, that Congress passes laws to preserve these resources for all mankind. Our natural resources are great on land and offshore. These can be used to help America gain more independence from other countries. But used correctly and conservatively, that’s what McCain represents.

I agree with McCain on welfare. Many people need public help, but many times, it only needs to be temporary assistance. The help does not need to be stifling and undermining the correct growth of families. It needs to be  a limited time of benefits.

McCain believes as I do, that with all our problems, we need unity in government. We don’t need to be in a constant struggle for power from one “party or the other.” Both parties need to work for the people, not for the “Party.” We need to reach across the aisle and work for our united government as a whole.

McCain has foresight. He has new ways of obtaining help in his achievements. I’m speaking of his choice in Sarah Palin as Vice President. He is reaching out for new people. Palin will energize the party, but also the nation. This action shows his foresight, and how he is looking ahead for new ideas, and for changes that need to happen in our Country. Not only is she pretty, she has a good business sense, a good background. She has shown, she will do what is right for the people and our Country.  Palin exhibited this in her political career. She did not think of her own prosperity, she did what was right.

It is important that all Americans go to the polls and vote for the right choice, and I believe, that McCAIN/PALIN is the ONLY choice. That’s why I am voting for John McCain, for President of the United States of America!!!
