Responses to news and editorials on The Panolian’s internet site, panolian.com, now require an e-mail address before being considered for posting. The addresses are for verification and not publication according to Panolian Managing Editor Rupert Howell.
“We have found that many of the anonymous responses tend to unfairly attack persons without credibility of fact,” Howell said, adding, “We encourage responses that add to or question the conversation reported in the stories, personal opinion columns or editorials.”
The Panolian and panolian.com also encourage readers to write letters to the editor that are published in both news outlets. Letters should be brief (approximately 250 words or less) and to the point. Letters must be signed and should contain a physical address and daytime telephone for verification. Addresses and numbers will not be published, but no anonymous letters will be published.
Panolian.com will not post comments containing curse words or known errors of fact. Most acceptable comments are posted within 24 hours. If your comment isn’t posted with 48 hours, we encourage you to try again.
