David Renfroe was ecstatic to receive an invitation to the 2008 Under Armour All-American baseball game. In addition to the invitation was the opportunity to play in Chicago’s Wrigley Field where his father once played.

Sunday, the Tiger star pitcher and quarterback for the football team got to make his dream come true. He was playing third baseman in the fourth inning and slated to take the mound in the fifth inning. An injury to the fourth inning pitcher catapulted Renfroe to the mound to pitch the last two thirds of the inning. He inherited a runner at second base and gave up two singles himself. He had two strikeouts in the fourth inning and three in the fifth inning.

“After pitching the fourth and fifth inning and recording five strikeouts, David Renfroe of South Panola High School in Batesville, Mississippi stepped to the plate for his first at-bat of the afternoon in the bottom of the eighth inning with one man already on. David turned on the pitch and sent it over the basket and into the bleachers in left field for a two run home run. The ‘windy city’ provided no assistance on this hit as the wind was blowing across the field and towards the right field foul pole.”

Renfroe’s home run was the only out of the park homer hit.

“We are just very proud of David,” said his high school baseball coach Patrick Robey.
Renfroe had a whole lot of home support in Chicago including his mom, Kim; coach Robey and wife Ginger, superintendent Dr. Keith Shaffer, and many more friends and family.
