Plans are underway for an exciting evening as Northwest Mississippi Community College hosts its annual “Meet the Rangers” night on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. The event will be held on Bobby Franklin Field in Ranger Stadium on the Senatobia campus, and admission is free, according to Pam Wooten, student activities manager.

“We want to invite the entire community to this event,” Wooten said. “It is going to be an opportunity for everyone to meet our players, new coaching staff, cheerleaders and band in a fun atmosphere,” she said.

Wooten said that the players, coaching staff and cheerleaders will be introduced that evening and that the cheerleaders, Rangerettes and Ranger Marching Band will be performing.

Last December, Northwest hired Ricky Woods, one of the most successful coaches in Mississippi high school ranks as its head coach. Woods is best known for his success as coach of the championship South Panola High School football program. He brings an impressive overall career record of 213-43 to the table as he begins his first season as head coach of the Rangers, and has a great team of coaches on his staff.

On board for the upcoming season will be Jack Wright, offensive coordinator; Ron Oakes, offensive line coach; Blake Frazier, defensive coordinator; Trenell Edwards, defensive backs coach; Scott Oakley, receivers coach, Willis Wright, outside linebackers coach; and Danny Ray Cole, strength coach. “We are so happy to have Coach Woods and his entire staff,” said Larry Simpson, dean of enrollment management and registrar. “I don’t know if I have ever seen this level of excitement and anticipation for the season to begin. We wish the team the best of luck.”

The Rangers will take on the 2007 NCJAA co-champion Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs in their season opener on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Franklin Field. “We need everybody to come out and show the Rangers their support,” said Wooten.
