The Panolian incorrectly reported in its print edition Tuesday that Kemp had also been killed in the accident.

Carter was walking westbound when he was struck, said MHP Sgt. Leslie White. The accident occurred about 1:45 Sunday morning.

“Right now that’s all we know – Mr. Kemp struck Mr. Carter going westbound on the interstate, ” White said. “We don’t know why.”

Carter was thrown approximately 150 feet, DeSoto County coroner Jeff Pounders told The DeSoto Times newspaper.

Kemp’s automobile accident follows the July 20 death of another Panola Countian, Ralph Bishop.  Bishop, 49, died in a one-car automobile accident on Ballentine Road.

Bishop later died at The Med in Memphis.

Funeral services for Bishop were held Sunday. He was a truck driver for Ballentine Trucking.
