Bonnie Kay Tutor Daugherty
POPE–Bonnie Kay Tutor Daugherty, 51, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at her residence.

Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Courtland. Rev. Tim Ellis officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Daugherty, born March 5, 1957, in Marks, to the late William Jewell and Nellie Tims Tutor of Courtland, was a L.P.N. for the Panola County Sheriff’s Department.

Survivors along with her mother, include: her husband, J.D. Daugherty Jr. of Pope; two sons, Michael Scott Daugherty of Courtland and Christopher Lee Daugherty of Pope; five sisters, Rita Tutor Cook of Batesville, Diana Tutor Cook of Courtland, Myra Tutor Wright of Oxford, Sherry Tutor Darby and Ginger Tutor Ridgeway, both of Pope; seven brothers, Billy Tutor and Tony Tutor, both of Courtland, Bobby Tutor of Olive Branch, David Tutor, Danny Tutor and Ronnie Tutor, all of Batesville and Doug Tutor of Como and five grandchildren.

Johnny Martin
BATESVILLE–Johnny Martin, 65, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Ark.

Graveside services were Thursday at Batesville Cemetery. Presiding Elder Roosevelt Gooch officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Martin, born May 19, 1943, in West Point, to the late Mary Martin was a maintenance worker and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.

Survivors include: his wife, Theresa Martin of Batesville; two sons, Jeremy Martin of Batesville and Stephen Martin of Memphis; one sister, Carolyn Martin of Jackson; two brothers, Joe Martin of Jackson and Jimmy Martin of West Point and two grandchildren.

Grady Lee McCullar
CROWDER–Grady Lee McCullar, 47, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at his residence.

Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Lovejoy Cemetery. Visitation is today 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

McCullar, born Feb. 13, 1961, in Chicago, to the late Grady Lee McCullar Sr. and Vera Faye Tutor, was a cabinet maker.

Survivors include: his wife, Janet Alexander McCullar of Batesville; one daughter, Britni McCullar of Batesville; two sons, Jonathan McCullar of Courtland and Grady Lee McCullar III of Oxford; three sisters, Tammy Renee McCullar Gant, Linda McCullar Locke, both of Batesville and Sandra McCullar – Kruger of Horn Lake; one brother, Curtis McCullar of Pope and five grandchildren.

Michelle Corbin Moore
HERNANDO–Michelle Corbin Moore, 38, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at DeSoto Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Services were Sunday at Hernando Funeral Home. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Long officiated. Hernando Funeral Home had charge.

Moore, born July 7, 1969, in Clarksdale, graduated from Delta Academy in Marks. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University where she received a masters degree from the School of Accountancy in 1992. She was employed at Smith and Nephew in Memphis.

Survivors include: one daughter, Ashley Ellen Moore; her mother, Helen Corbin of Lambert; two sisters, Phyllis C. Howard of Memphis and Janice C. Murray of Southaven; three brothers, Steve Corbin and Dennis Corbin, both of Lambert, John Corbin Jr. of Batesville; one half-sister, Balinda Powell of Dudley, Mo.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Roy H. Sawyer Jr.
SARDIS–Roy H. Sawyer Jr., 83, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital.

Services were Monday at Senatobia Church of Christ. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Sawyer, born Dec. 18, 1924, in Lamar, was a member of Como Church of Christ and a retired bank president of the Bank of Sardis, farmer and tractor dealer. He was the owner of Sawyer Bros. Equipment Company. He served as chairman of the board of Harding University in Searcy, Ark.: Sunnybrook Children’s Home in Jackson and World Christian Broadcasting based in Franklin, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and returned home to serve in the Mississippi Army National Guard, retiring as a two-star Major General. He served the Department of Defense in various capacities.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Edward “Buz” Sawyer.

Survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Marjorie West Sawyer; one daughter, Sheri Sawyer Salley of Valparaiso, Ind.; one son, Roy H. Sawyer III of Alabama and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to World Christian Broadcasting, Harding University or Sunnybrook Children’s Home.

Norfleet Ruffin “N.R.” Sledge
COMO–Norfleet Ruffin “N.R.” Sledge, 80, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at his residence.

Memorial services were Monday at Holy Innocents Church. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

Sledge, born to the late Judge Norfleet Ruffin Sledge and the late Clara Wesson Sledge, graduated from Sewanee Military Academy. After serving in the U.S. Navy,  he graduated from Vanderbilt University where he was member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

He was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church and was a lay reader for many years. After working in Memphis for Union Planters National Bank, he moved back to Como to oversee his farming interests. He was a former member of the University Club of Memphis, Rotary Club of Como and Panola County School Board.

He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Obedience Wesson Sledge.

Survivors include: his wife, Gertrude “Trudy” Johnson of Sledge; two daughters, Julia S. Bryan of Culleoka, Tenn. and Meriwether S. Eisenhard of Downingtown, Pa.; one son, Norfleet Ruffin Sledge Jr. of Como; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
