WATER VALLEY– Bonnie Laura Chandler, 63, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at her residence. She was the sister of Billy Chandler of of Batesville.

Services were Monday at O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church in Water Valley. Dan Dickerson and Truman Scarbrough officiated. Burial was in Elam Cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge.

Chandler, born May 27, 1944, to the late Jessie L. and Billie M. Tharpe Chandler, had recently retired from the Yalobusha County Department of Human Services and was a member of O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church.

Survivors along with her brother include: four sisters, Melissa Jo Smith and Sherry Crenshaw, both of Water Valley, Cindy Chandler of Saucier and Rita Graham of Pontotoc.

BATESVILLE– Betty Lou Ellis, 84, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at her residence.

Services were Saturday at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. Rev. Mark Conner officiated. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Ellis, born Oct. 1, 1923, to the late Wade Lester and the late Lizzie Ellis, was a homemaker and a member of Brassell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, John Henry Ellis.

Survivors include: six daughters, Vallie Ellis, Robbie Ellis and Lorine Conner, all of Batesville, Jearldine Wright of Courtland and Elizabeth Clay of Aberdeen and Mary Martin of Rock Island, Ill.; one son, Joe Willie Ellis of Batesville; one sister, Lela Strong of Courtland; 29 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE– John Henry Ellis, 56, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Kemper Neshoba County Correction Center.

Services were Saturday at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Mark Conner officiated. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Ellis was born Dec. 12, 1951, to the late John Wesley King and the late Betty Lou Ellis.

Survivors include: three daughters, Stephanie Ford and April Johnson, both of Batesville and Precious Smith of Chicago; one son, Kevin Jefferson of Batesville; eight sisters, Vallie Ellis, Robbie Ellis, Lula Moering, Jean King, Lorine Conner, all of Batesville, Jearldine Wright of Courtland, Mary Martin of Rock Island, Ill. and Elizabeth Clay of Aberdeen; four brothers, Joe Wllie Ellis of Batesville, Michael Griffin and Lewis Griffin, both of Courtland and Jimmy King of Milwaukee, Wis. and 10 grandchildren.

LAMBERT– Charles Ray Golden, 54, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, in Morrilton, Ark. He was the brother of William Stanley Golden of Crowder.

Services were Wednesday at Community Independence Baptist Church. Rev. Raymond Roberson officiated. Burial was in Hinchcliff Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Golden, born to the late William Herman Golden and Mamie Charlene Morgan Golden, served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Survivors along with his brother, include: one daughter, Sherry Tucker of Alabama; four brothers, Raymond Earl Golden, Rodney Golden, James Golden and Mickey Golden, all of Marks; one sister, Sue Collins of Marks and three grandchildren.

OXFORD– Patsy Jean Hendrix, 60, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at her residence.

Services were Wednesday at Coleman Funeral Home. Burial was Pine Flat Cemetery in Oxford. Coleman Funeral Home had charge.

Hendrix, born to the late Millard Clifford and the late Nellie Beatrice Harville, was retired from the National Cotton Council as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Homemakers Club and Calvary Baptist Church of Oxford.

Survivors include: her husband, James Russell Hendrix of Oxford; one sister, Elaine Darby of Batesville; two brothers, Millard Clifford Harville Jr. of Anniston, Ala. and Elmer Lee Harville.

GRAND BAY, Ala.– Stephen Arthur McDonald, 54, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at his residence. He was the brother of Louise McDonald Phillips of Batesville.

Memorial services were Sunday at Lighthouse of Hope Holiness Church in Irvington, Ala. Pine Crest Funerals and Cremations in Mobile, Ala. had charge.

McDonald was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers, Local 112.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jennifer McDonald Laatsch and Katrina McDonald of Wisconsin; three sons, James McDonald of Wisconsin, Scott McDonald of New York and Stephen Dewayne McDonald of Georgia; his mother, Dorothy Burton of Slidell, La.; one sister, Patricia McDonald Knobf of Grand Bay, Ala.; his step-mother  Evelyn McDonald of Batesville and seven grandchildren.

BATESVILLE– Sterling Perry, 73, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation will be today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Perry, born June 26, 1934, to the late Nathaniel Perry and the late Bertha Mae Griffin Perry, was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include three daughters, Minnie Bell Perry, Beverly Ann Perry and Ferica Perry, all of Batesville; six sons, Roy Perry and Tony Anthony Perry, both of Batesville, Ira Joe Perry of Corinth, Clyde Perry of Crenshaw, Sterling Perry Jr. of Denver, Colo and Charles Perry of Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Oneal Perry of Batesville, George Perry of Memphis and Olson Perry of Indianapolis, Ind.; six sisters, Shelia Brooks of Memphis, Eva Perry, Dorothy Miller and Jewel Pinkins, all of Indianapolis, Ind., Vergie Lee Stappins of Memphis and Emma Mae Perry of Fresno, Calif.; a host of grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE– James Barry Talbert, 67, died Sunday, May 26, 2008, at his residence.

Graveside services were Thursday at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City. Dr. Phillip Young and David Drumheller officiated. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Talbert, born March 10, 1941, to the late Jack and Georgia Talbert, in Vandale, Ark., was a salesman and a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Downs Talbert of Batesville; one daughter, Jackie Talbert Friedman of Frisco, Texas; one sister, Ann Allen of Mountain Home, Ark. and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the charity of the donors choice.
