SP games rained out tonight

On the South Panola baseball website:

“Rain has forced today’s game to be postponed until next Friday. In order to conclude the series with Columbus, we will travel to Columbus next Friday for a varsity DH beginning at 4. The final game with Tupelo will be played Thursday April 17 at home. Junior varsity game at 5 with varsity game at 7.”

The South Panola softball game with Starkville will be a doubleheader played at home Wednesday, April 9, beginning at 4 p.m. Seniors will be recognized between games.

SP teams at home tonight, barring more rain delay

Rainy weather this week has played havoc with outside sports. Softball, baseball and tennis games and matches have been postponed and canceled.

Coaches are scrambling to get district games reset and played before district tournament deadlines around April 15.

South Panola fastpitch was scheduled to play Clinton on Tuesday in non-district action. Coach Ashleigh Hicks said they are trying to reschedule the game. Thursday, the softball team, which is ranked No. 1 in Mississippi this week in the Clarion-Ledger softball poll, played in Grenada in the second part of the Strike Out For Cancer event and won 5-0.

The Lady Tigers (18-2) will host Starkville in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Senior players will be recognized in a ceremony between games.

In the polls Horn Lake, Tupelo, Stone and East Central round out the top five teams in the state.

The next five are D’Iberville, New Hope, Northwest Rankin, Long Beach and Eupora.

South Panola will be at Horn Lake Tuesday for a 6 p.m. varsity game, following the junior varsity game.

Since South Panola and Tupelo met, Tupelo lost to Horn Lake 11-1 on March 29 and to Eupora 2-1 on March 31.

Tupelo defeated district foe Starkville 16-0 Tuesday. Tupelo defeated Starkville earlier in the season 20-0.

North Delta Baseball

North Delta’s baseball team has had three district games postponed this week. Head coach David Hardy said he is getting an ear condition from being on the cell phone trying to reschedule games.

North Delta was scheduled to host Marvell in a doubleheader Tuesday and West Memphis yesterday.

He did not know when the makeup games will be played at press time. He has to get these games played by April 15.

North Delta will travel to Desoto, Ark. Monday at 4 p.m. Thursday, they will host Tunica Institute in district action at 4 p.m.

South Panola baseball

The South Panola baseball team has rescheduled the district game with Tupelo to Thursday, April 17. Tupelo , ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 9 in the nation, barely squeaked past the Tigers the first two games of the three-game series. Tupelo won the first 4-3 and the second 5-3.

The Tigers’ will travel to Columbus next Friday to make up the rained out game. The Tigers won the first one 11-4 on March 18.

Saturday, the Tigers start a three-game road trip. Tomorrow they will play in Southaven at 7 p.m. Tuesday the Tigers will be in Starkville and Friday at Columbus in district matchups at 5 and 7 p.m. each night.
