Lady Tigers shut out 4 weekend opponents

The South Panola Lady Tiger fastpitch softball team (18-2 overall, 3-1 district) scored a total of 39 runs this past weekend and allowed none.

Starting Thursday, the Lady Tigers downed Columbus 15-0 in three innings.

Kenzi Reed relieved starter Whitney Kiihnl in the second inning and got the win. Reed allowed one hit and struck out four.

Kiihnl got a no-decision and struck out one and allowed one walk. The Lady Tigers scored five runs in each inning. Getting hits for the Lady Tigers were Kiihnl, 2-for-3, two singles; Casi Brooks, 2-for-3, one homerun, one single; Stormy Robison, 2-for-3, two singles; Bethany Moore, 2-for-3, two singles; and Haley Hood, 1-for-3, one single.

Friday and Saturday, the Lady Tigers played three games in the Southaven Tournament. The fourth game was rained out Saturday afternoon.

Friday, the Lady Tigers shut out Cordova, Tenn. 14-0 in five innings. Robison got the win. South Panola had 11 hits and committed no errors. Cordova had one hit and committed five errors.

South Panola scored six runs in the top of the third inning.

The Lady Tigers took on Brighton, Tenn. Friday night and won 7-0.

Saturday morning, the Lady Tigers played their toughest game of the tournament against Richland and won 3-0. Kiihnl got the win in seven innings and Lauren Harper (4-4) took the loss. South Panola got three hits and Richland two. Both teams committed an error.

The Lady Tigers had a change in the schedule for this week. Non-district games have been scheduled with Clinton (17-7) today. The junior varsity will play at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity at 5 p.m. A rained-out Starkville game from March 4 has been rescheduled for Thursday. They will play a varsity doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. These are the final two district games of the season for the Lady Tigers.

They still have some tough games to play to close out the regular season. Monday, the Lady Tigers will play at Southaven at 5 p.m. and Tuesday at Horn Lake at 5 p.m. The April 10 game with Winona has been canceled.
