Bright homers in Tiger weekend action

The South Panola  baseball team picked up a pair of wins on the road Saturday to run their record to 6-2 on the season.

The Tigers first went to Byhalia and came away with an 8-6 victory over the Indians as freshmen left-hander Mitchell Babb went five innings to pick up his first win of the year. Tyler Benson led South Panola at the plate with a pair of doubles and a single.

Joseph Blair added two singles while Monroe Harrison contributed with a triple and Ethan Bright hit a home run.

South Panola then visited Independence and came away with a 6-0 victory. Senior  Colton Ales ran his record to 3-1 on the year while Bright got the save in his initial appearance on the mound of the year. Wesley Gregg, David Renfroe and Bright all recorded two hits apiece.

“Mitchell did a very good job on the mound for us in the first game. We had some base running mistakes that hurt us, but overall we played pretty good,” said Tiger head coach Patrick Robey.

South Panola will open District 2- 5A play Thursday by hosting No. 1 ranked Tupelo at 7 p.m. with junior varsity action starting at 5 p.m.

The Tiger Junior High squad will travel to Water Valley today at 5 p.m.
