Tigers and Cougars basketball seasons come to an end

The district tournaments were not as good for the boys’ teams as they were for the girls.
North Panola Cougars and South Panola Tigers both ended their seasons in the first round of their respective tournaments.

Tuesday, the Tigers traveled to Columbus to take on the No. 2 ranked teams in the state Starkville and lost 64-44.

South Panola led 26-24 at halftime, scoring 20 points in the second quarter.

The Tigers were dead coming out of halftime and only scored five points in the third quarter and 13 in the fourth. Starkville scored 19 in the third and 21 in the fourth to advance to the championship game tonight against Tupelo. Tupelo defeated Columbus 61-52.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Antonio Allen with 18 points, followed by Rico Key with 13 points. Other Tiger scorers include C.J. Raynor, 8 points; Kennon Draper 3 points; and Kerrion Moore, 2 points.

The North Panola Cougars lost 76-66 against the Byhalia Indians in Region 3-3A action Tuesday night.

The Cougars led slightly most of the game, but Byhalia turned up the heat and roared back in the fourth quarter to take the lead and the game.

The game was tied at 54 going into the fourth quarter, but it was the Indians who would use the clock and the pressure defense to its advantage and move to the next round.

Dexter Robinson led the Cougars in scoring with 24 points, followed by Aldrick Russell with 21. Other scorers include Bruce Wilbourn, 8 points; Templeton Hardy, 7 points; Marico Young and Lenardo Lark, 3 points each.
