The South Panola High School competitive cheerleading squad maintained its national ranking with a No. 6 showing at competition this past weekend.

“They were absolutely phenomenal,” said head coach Tammy Wilkinson of the squad’s two performances on Sunday.

Video taping on www.varsity.com showed two flawless performances presented with confidence by the squad members.

Another exciting mark for the Tiger squad was scoring higher than Germantown High School for the first time in seven years. Wilkinson was excited about that point and the performance of three eighth graders she moved up after the December competition, Blair Wilkinson, Misty Clay and Anna Baglan.

“It was some tough competition,” Wilkinson said. “This couldn’t have happened to a better group of seniors.”

Four high schools from Mississippi made the finals. In Super Varsity under South Panola at 16 was Lumberton High School. In Large varsity at 13 was Desoto Central High School and at 25 Seminary High School.

“That is the big talk down here,” Wilkinson said.
