MARKS¬ Charlie Wayne Alexander, 60, died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at his home in Marks.

Graveside services were held February 2 at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. John Shackelford officiated. Mr. Alexander was born January 27, 1948 in Batesville. He was a US Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a retired factory worker and a member of West Marks Baptist Church.

Survivors are his daughter Amanda Alexander and son Tommy Alexander, both of Middletown, Ohio;  son Travis Alexander of Tenn.;  and brother Terry Alexander of Georgia.

Kimbro Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

IRVING, TX.¬ Jeff Caldwell, 89, formerly of  Panola County, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 in Bedford, Texas.

Services were held January 28 at First Baptist Church in Irving. Burial was at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Katherine Louise Caldwell.  Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law Pat and Bob Seeley of Bedford, Tex.; daughter and son-in-law Mary and Randy Adams of Arlington, Tex.;  son and daughter-in-law Robert and Carmen Caldwell of Eureka Springs, Ark.; grandchildren Todd Seeley, Tricia Lewis and husband Clint, Sage Caldwell and wife Tiffany, Zachary Caldwell and wife Kasia, and Jeff  Adams; and great-grandchildren Whitney and Nathan Lewis.

Survivors in Batesville are Rita and Slick Willingham and the family of Ruby Mae Avery.

Mr. Caldwell was in the 8th Air Force during WWII, stationed primarily in England. He retired from Lloyd A. Fry Roofing/Owens Corning. He was a Master Mason, a member of the Irving Lions Club, and served as a deacon of First Baptist Church in Irving. After retirement he was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross; he was a hunter, a fisherman and a Master Gardener.

Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home in Irving was in charge of arrangements.

MARKS¬ Laverne Dancy, 86, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.

Services were held Saturday at First Baptist Church in Marks. Rev. James Tidwell and Rev. Truman Scarborough officiated. Burial was at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville.

Mr. Dancy was born September 5, 1921 to John Milton and Myrtle Stevens Dancy in Cockren, Miss. He was a self-employed contractor and a member of First Baptist Church in Marks. He was a veteran of the US Air Force.

Mr. Dancy was widower of Christine Ellis Dancy and Bernice Worley Dancy.

Survivors are daughters Kathy Dancy Respess of Lambert and Jennifer Dancy Ellis of Batesville; sons Raymond L. “Dan” Dancy of Germantown, and Chris Dancy and Jonathan Dancy, both of Lambert; step-daughters Cindy Bankston of Clarksdale and Carol Baker of Madison; sisters Hazel Long of Senatobia and Audrey Peterson of Fletcher, North Carolina.; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Marks, Miss., Delta Academy of Marks, Miss., or to St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MARKS¬ Clartis Eugene Mitchell, 61, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Quitman County Hospital.

A memorial service was held February 2 at First Baptist Church of Marks. Rev. James Tidwell officiated.

Mr. Mitchell, born January 8, 1947 in Marks, was a building manager. He was a Baptist.

Survivors are his sister Donna Faye Hooper of Southaven and brother James H. Mitchell of Marks.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Marks or to a charity of one’s choice.

SARDIS– Annie Lee Stitch, 67, died Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital– North Mississippi.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at McIvor MB Church in Sardis with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Eugene Whiting will officiate.

Stitch, born September 9, 1940, was a home maker and a member of McIvor MB Church in Sardis. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Stich.

Survivors include three sisters, Olivette Brodnax of West Memphis, Ark.; Mary Smith of West Memphis, Ark.; and Rosie Simmons of Sardis; and one brother Albert Henderson of Gary, Ind.
