BJH struggles with Oxford

The Batesville Junior High seventh and eighth grade boys and girls basketball squads dropped three of four games to Oxford Middle School Thursday night.

The seventh grade girls got the action started by falling 28-8. Destine Brandon led the Lady Tigers in scoring with four points. Lashunae Henderson added two points while Monique Bishop and Marla Rudd followed with one point each.

The seventh grade boys meanwhile rebounded for a 31-10 victory over the Chargers. Brandon Wright led the way with 17 points on the night as the Tigers went on a 16-2 run in the second half after Oxford closed the score to 15-7 with 6:09 left in the contest. Trevor Wells accounted for seven first-half points while C.J. Leland and Tony Conner each had a basket. Dion Mix, Brandon Smith and Tevin Lamar connected on one free throw each.

Meanwhile, both  Oxford boys and girls eighth grade teams were victorious on the night as the girls downed Batesville  43-21 behind Erica Sisk’s 13 points  while the boys closed out the evening with a 31-23 win over the Tigers.

Shakiffany Smith led the Lady Tigers in a losing effort with nine points while Christa Brown and Brittany Mitchell followed with six and two points.

In the Oxford boys win, the Chargers went on a 10-3 run in the last 4:48 of the game to take the win. Justin Fondren led all scorers with 17 points while Mark Richardson led Batesville with 12 points followed by Temario Strong with six points on three field goals. Chris Townsend and James Watson contributed with two points each while Nick Johnson added a point.
