Eloise Abel Babb

MARKS – Eloise Abel Babb, 78, died Monday, December 24, 2007, at Clarksdale Nursing Center.

Services were held Thursday, December 27, at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Rev. James Tidwell officiated. Burial was at Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Babb, born September 28, 1929,  in Duck Hill, taught elementary education at Darling, Lambert and Crowder. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Marks.

Along with her husband Joe Babb of Marks, Babb is survived by sons Ken Babb of Marks, Joey Babb of Madison and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation or to First Baptist Church of Marks.

E.A. Henderson

BATESVILLE – E. A. Henderson, 65, of Batesville died Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services will be held December 31 at St. Peters M. B. Church, Batesville. Rev. Odell Draper will officiate. Burial is in New Hope Cemetery in Batesville. Henderson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Henderson, born May 6, 1942, to Osia and Willie W. Henderson, was an ambassador – patient transporter at North Miss. Medical Center.  She was a member of St. Peters M B. Church.

Survivors include four daughters Kimberly Henderson and Leathric Henderson, both of Batesville, Marilyn Morris of Longtown, and Cynthia Ivery of Newport News, Va.; three sons Paul Henderson and Michael Henderson, both of Batesville and Kenneth Henderson of Memphis; one brother Willie W. Henderson Jr. of Newport News; two sisters, Lizzie Ruth Brassell of Oxford and Baby Ruth Henderson of Batesville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Luke Higginbottom

BATESVILLE –  Luke Higginbottom, 70, died Saturday, December 22, 2007, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo.

Services will be held at 1 p. m. today at New Hope M. B. Church in Oxford. Rev. Eric Wilson will officiate. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Higginbottom, born in Lafayette County, was a laborer. He waa a member of New Hope M. B. Church.

Survivors include daughters Kathleen Webb and Barbara Higginbottom of Oxford and Mary King of Batesville; sons Luke Higginbottom of Cleveland and Irvin Brown of Dallas, Texas; brother Bobby Payton of Oxford, sister Edna Murphy of Abbeville, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Higginbottom was preceded in death by his wife Rosie Higginbottom.

Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sherman Edward “Ed” Morrow

COURTLAND – Sherman Edward “Ed” Morrow, 67, died Monday, December 24, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.  

Services were held Thursday, December 27, at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Locke and Rev. Paul Middleton officiated. Burial was at Magnolia Cemetery.

Morrow, born July 6, 1940, in Panola County to Casey Sherman and Gladys Clevenger Morrow, was in Maintenance at Smith Oil Company. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church.

Along with his wife Betty Cochran Morrow of Courtland, Morrow is survived by sons Teddy Morrow of Batesville and Tim Morrow of Courtland; sisters Betty Morrow Aldridge of Courtland, Teresa Morrow Douglas ad Faye Morrow Christ of Batesville, and Diane Morrow Latham of Senatobia; brother Bobby Morrow of Courtland and six grandchildren.

Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Evelyn Paslay Patton

SARDIS – Sarah Evelyn Paslay Patton, 86, died Saturday, December 22, 2007, at Fairfield of Batesville.

Services were held Wednesday, December 26 at Sardis Presbyterian Church.  Dr. Robert Lee Penny and Rev. Ray Crouch officiated. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home was in charge.

Patton, born January 10, 1921, in Como to Dr. Byron Hicklin Paslay and Etta DeCell Rogers Paslay, was a retired Panola County deputy circuit clerk. She was an active member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include daughters  Lillian Patton Bailey of Brandon and Sarah Patton Glover of Birmingham, Alabama, and son William Byron Patton of Gautier; brother Joseph Earlton Paslay of Oxford; four grandchildren and four grest-grandchildren.  

Memorials may be made to Sardis Presbyterian Church.

Kay Schaefer Perkins

SARDIS – Kay Schaefer Perkins, 67, died Friday, December 21, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.

Services  were Sunday, December 23 at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Terry Tribble and Dr. David Ball officiated. Burial was at Cold Springs Cemetery in Sardis.

Perkins, born February 2, 1940, in Washington, D. C., to Guy and Latta Mae Overrawl Schaefer, was a Registered Nurse who was retired from the North Panola School District. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.

Along with her husband, Johnnie Lee Perkins of Sardis, survivors include daughters Regina Perkins of Cheney, Kansas and Kim Perkins Bruce and Sherrie Perkins McCollum of Sardis; son Justin B. Perkins of Sardis,; niece Debra K. Fortin of Lexington, North Carolina and nephew Phillip Guy Fortin of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Maudie Schiele

LAMBERT –  Maudie Schiele, 83, died Saturday, December 22, 2007, at Golden Living Center in Batesville.

Services were held Wednesday, December 26, at First Baptist Church, Lambert. Rev. Calvin King presided. Burial was at Lambert Cemetery.

Schiele, born August 24, 1924, in Quitman County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Lambert Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons Jeff and Kenneth Schiele of Lambert; daughters Joy McMillan of Lambert, Judith Schiele of Brandon, Linda Rochelle of Canton, and Ruth Schiele Moore of Pope; Donna Martin of Alpharetta, Georgia; Lisa Nichols of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Nancy Carter of Franklin, Tennessee; twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Schiele was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Raymond Schiele and a son, Walter Schiele, three brothers and five sisters.
Kimbro Funeral Home of Marks was in charge of arrangements.

 David Thacker Jr.

SARAH – David Thacker Jr., 65, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services were held Saturday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville.
Burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sardis. Wells Funeral Home was in charge.
Thacker, born March 9, 1942, in Quitman County to David and Leona Dykes Thacker Sr., was an E. V. S. employee of Fitzgerald’s Casino.

Along with his wife, Kathy Sullivan Thacker of Sarah, Thacker is survived by daughters Stacey C. Russell of Water Valley, Michelle Wortham of Grenada, Meagan Shanks of Horn Lake, and Darlene Newton of West Memphis, Arkansas; sons Leroy Thacker of Pontotoc, Gary Thacker of Water Valley, Chris Thacker of Grenada, and Perry Thacker of West Memphis, Arkansas; sisters Bobbie Thacker Stuart of Askew, Patsy Thacker Mitchell of Crenshaw, Judy Thacker Mayo of Sarah; brothers Paul Thacker of Olive Branch, Robert Thacker of Crowder, Stanley Thacker of Strayhorn; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
