Lady Tigers remain undefeated early season

By Myra Bean
The  South Panola Lady Tigers are 3-0 going into this week’s basketball schedule.

The latest was a 20 point win over Cleveland East Side before Christmas. The team was scheduled to play in the Houston Tournament but due to the extended football schedule, the games were not played.

The Lady Tigers are looking to build on a season which ended in the north half tournament in Tupelo last season.

Lady Tiger head coach Ralph Stallings contributes the success of the strong start to a balanced offensive attack to scoring leaders Sabrina Townsend, Vetorra Cole and Skylar Barnes.

All three have scored in double figures in the games.

“The kids are playing well,” Stallings said. “We are getting a good effort from everybody.”

The Lady Tiger defense has held its opponents to under 40 points per game.

“I was pleased with the win over Senatobia to get our season started,” Stallings said. “We need to play a lot in order to compete like we want.”

The teams have not played over the Christmas holidays in a few years, but this year are scheduled to play in a Christmas tournament at Northwest Community College.

Also added to the schedule is the Durant Classic December 20, 21 and 22. The coaches are calling it the “Trenell Edwards” Tournament. Edwards, Coach E, is a former South Panola assistant coach who is now the head Durant football coach.
