SARDIS—Hazel G. Arnold, 90, died Monday, November 26, 2007, at her daughter’s home in Hernando.

Services were Wednesday, November 28 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cold Springs Cemetery. Rev. Robert “Bob” Hickey officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Arnold, born June 8, 1917, in Sardis, to the late William Lee and Charlie Ann Goodnight Goforth, was a homemaker and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.M. “Bud” Arnold, one daughter, Brenda McCown and one son, Jimmy Arnold.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sarah Arnold Thomas of Hernando; two sons, Melvin Arnold and wife, Marilyn of Sherwood, Ark. and Clifton “Rooster” Arnold and wife, Marilyn of Charleston; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE—Katherine Clark, 81, died Thursday, November 29, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Sunday at Antioch M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Reginald Reed officiated. Burial was in Antioch M.B. Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Clark, born April 30, 1926, in Grenada to the late Harvey Johnson Jr. and the late Dora Robinson Johnson, was a retired cook for South Panola High School and a member of Antioch M.B. Church. She was a Sunday school teacher and honorary president of the choir. She was a member of the Mother Board and a choir member.

She was preceded in death by her son, Willie Earl Clark and two daughters, Glenda Faye Clark and Mary Lee Clark.

Survivors include: five daughters, Kathleen Stewart, Warneda Jackson, Ethel Dean Clark, Veara Hall and Barbere Harris, all of Batesville; five sons, A.C. Clark Jr., Calvin Clark, Charles Lee Clark and Malcolm Clark, all of Batesville and Bobby Hazes Clark of Jackson; two sisters, Everleen Street and Ora Lee Johnson, both of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Dorris Johnson of Detroit, Mich. and Harvey Johnson Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio; 40 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

ENID—Kathryn Lorraine Simpson Dyer, 82, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services were Saturday at Elam Baptist Church. Burial was in Elam Cemetery. Garner-Harper Funeral Home had charge.

Dyer, born to the late Benjamin and Mable Richards Simpson, was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Pope and retired after 20 years from Big Yank Manufacturing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Dyer.

Survivors include: three daughters, Carol H. McGregor of Horn Lake, Brenda H. Hendren of Drummonds, Tenn. and Mary Gail Flowers of Pope; three sisters, Marie Pittman of Coffeeville, Frances Johnson of Montgomery, Ala. and Sue Hutchison of Sallis; one brother, Henry Simpson of Jacksonville, Ark.; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

COMO—Nora Fitts, 88, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at Quitman County Hospital.

Services were Saturday at Peach Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Bobby Caples officiated. Burial was in Peach Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Fitts, born Sept. 11, 1919, to the late Henry Allen Coleman and the late Annie Shelton Coleman, was a retired teacher and a member of Peach Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ben House Fitts.

Survivors include: one daughter, Anne Lambert of Como; three sisters, Glynn Darby of Sardis, Ruth Bryant of Olive Branch and Anne Christmas of Hernando; three brothers, Robert Coleman of Senatobia, Milton Coleman of Sardis and Minor Coleman of Coldwater and one grandson. Memorials may be made to Peach Creek Endowment Fund.

SARDIS—William Henry Jones, 89, died Thursday, November 22, 2007, at Baptist Memorial-North Mississippi.

Services were Saturday at McIvor M.B. Church. Burial was in Cistern Hill M.B. Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Jones was a deacon at  McIvor M.B. Church for 55 years. He was also a superintendent of the Sunday school class.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary J. Jones; two daughters, Rita Gipson of Memphis and Jimetta House of Des Moines; one son, Joe Jones of Gary, Ind.; two step-sons, Ricky House and Terry House, both of Des Moines; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

POPE—David Earnest Rhines, 52, died Thursday, November 29, 2007, at his residence.
No services have been made at this time. Remains were donated to Genesis in Memphis.

Rhines, born Jan. 31, 1955, was a disabled Marine veteran.

Survivors include: his mother, Ethel J. Manues of Pope; two brothers, Ted Wells of Ruleville and Tom Wells of Hughes, Ark. and one sister, Shelia Lantrip of Batesville.
