Green Wave shakes pesky Blue Devils

If Tuesday night’s game against Tunica Institute is any indication on how the District 1-1A race is going play out this season, fans of North Delta might want to go visit a cardiologist.
 

Taylor Herron’s two free throws with 36 seconds remaining lifted the Green Wave to a 45-41 victory over the Blue Devils to improve their record to 2-0 on the young season.

“We had some guys make some big plays tonight especially there in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line,” said Green Wave head coach Brad Wilson.

 With the game tied 33-33 going into the final period, North Delta could not seem to  shake the pesky Blue Devils over the last four minutes of the contest. Senior Michael Johnson’s putback  of a Geri Lamm miss gave the Wave a slim 35-34 lead. Lamm then gave the home team a three point lead at 37-34 on a steal and coast-to-coast layup with 4:32 remaining.

Tunica would not go away however as Perry Turner drained a three-pointer to cut the the Wave lead to 39-37 with 2:12 left. But less than a minute later and the score tied 41-41, Bateman Greenlee hit perhaps the biggest shot of the night when the junior canned a jumper with 1:50 left on the clock to give North Delta the lead for good.

The Blue Devils took their largest lead of the night late in the third quarter on a James Sharp turnaround jumper that gave the visitors a 33-29 advantage, but John Terry Moore knotted the score with a reverse baseline layup at the buzzer.

North Delta took a slim 25-23 halftime lead after Tunica’s Kaleb Brown and Moore exchanged treys on back-to-back possessions with less than a minute to play. Lamm’s  three-pointer gave the Wave its first five-point lead of the game at 20-15 with 2:48 before intermission.
