Pride prevents us from humbling before God
The time in which we now live is far different than 50 years ago. The time has now come when we no longer care for our neighbors, friends and sometimes family. People are too prideful to humble themselves and admit defeat.
We would now rather degrade, lie, and cheat others to achieve prosperity. It no longer matters that we hurt others to better ourselves. The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy and the evil way, and the forward mouth, do I hate. (Proverbs 8:10) If a person claims to love the Lord, should not he then turn from evil. You cannot serve God and love the world also. We profess to love the Lord, but are committed to the things of the world. We find time to worship the Lord only when it is convenient for us.
A hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbor: But through knowledge shall be just be delivered. (Proverbs 11:9). We just realize that when we don’t speak out against what we know is wrong; we are putting a stamp of approval on it. God??s people must take a stand. By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. We are so blessed and have so many things to be thankful for. The problem is we will not humble ourselves to to God and thank Him.
We would rather believe it is by our own power that we achieved such prosperity. We should strive to be more like Christ and less like the world. As we pray, we should seek to know the will of God in our life. There will come a time when we will leave this place and will hear one of two things, Well done thy good and faithful servant or I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. It is your choice. Which will it be?
