Lady Wave remain alive in state tourney

The North Delta Lady Green Wave remained alive in the MPSA State A Fastpitch Softball Tournament with two wins and a loss Wednesday afternoon.
In the first game of the tournament, North Delta defeated Claiborne County 7-2 and advanced in the winner’s bracket. Senior Melanie Gaters hit three for three with two singles, one double and three RBIs (runs batted in).
Samantha Massoth and Laci DuBravec had two RBIs each. Mary Jane Morrow pitched the complete game for the win.
The second game was a little harder as the Lady Green Wave was shut out 9-0 by Franklin County. Franklin County had defeated Macon central 13-0 in the first game. Morrow started on the mound for the Lady Green Wave. Massoth pitched in relief.
In the last game of the night, North Delta dropped to the loser bracket and had to play Veritas where they won 7-3. Veritas had defeated Benton Academy in the first game of the afternoon 9-4, but lost to Kemper Academy 11-4 in the second game.
With the second loss, Veritas was eliminated from the tournament.
Melanie Gaters got the win on the mound, pitching five innings. Massoth relieved her in the last two innings.
Vicki Johnson was three of three at bat with a triple and two singles. Courtney McCullar hit a double.
Gaters had two RBIs. Lauren Tidwell, Massoth and McCullar had one RBI each.
The tournament will continue on Monday, October 1. North Delta will face Kemper Academy at 12:30 p.m.
The winner of this game will face the loser of the Bayou Academy Franklin game at 2 p.m. The winner of this game will face the winner of the Bayou Academy/Franklin game for the championship at 3:30 p.m. See brackets on page C10.
