MARKS–Henry C. Bryant, 66, died Friday, September 14, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services were Sunday at Goodwill Church of God in Marks. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Bryant, born July 1, 1941, in Marks, to the late James Henry and Annie West Bryant, was a small engine repairman and a member of Goodwill Church of God.
Survivors include: his wife, Linda Cook Bryant of Marks; one daughter, Lisa Bryant Langley of Batesville; one son, Pat Bryant of Batesville; two sisters, Jeanette Bryant Ware and Shirley Bryant Moore, both of Batesville; four brothers, Earl Bryant, Mack Bryant and Robert “Rabbit” Bryant, all of Batesville and David Bryant of Morton and eight grandchildren.
SARDIS–Edna Haskew Shepherd, 96, died Thursday, September 13, 2007, at her residence.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Shepherd was a homemaker. Born in Florida on September 26, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mamie Margaret Levine Haskew.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Shepherd.
Survivors include: one daughter, Sylvia Shepherd Strock Clarendon of Sardis; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
SARDIS–Ardis Alvin Shields, 64, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007, in Sardis due to injuries received in an automobile accident.
Graveside services were Friday at McIvor Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Shields, born Aug. 30, 1943, to the late Alvin and Lena Potts Shields, was a member of McIvor Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Angel Shields Shanowat of Pikeville, Ky.; four sons, Wayne Hitchcock of Pikeville, Ky., Ardis Gene Shields of Hayward, Wis., Thurman Lee Shields of Chicago and Randy Lannet of Sardis; four sisters, Mary Ann Kuehl of Crystal Lake, Ill., Joyce Brown of Sardis, Michelle Shields and Kathy Shields, both of Pontotoc; six brothers, J.C. Shields of Batesville, Harvey Shields and James Robert Shields, both of Tennessee, Leslie Shields, Terry Shields and Ricky Shields, all of Batesville; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
SARDIS– Emil Eugene “Gene” Thornton Jr., 66, died Thursday, September 13, 2007, at his residence.
Services were Saturday at Sardis United Methodist Church. Rev. Dana Goff and Hal Johnson officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
Thornton, born June 10, 1941, to the late Emil Eugene “Skeeta” Thornton and Doris Taylor Thornton, was a high school teacher and a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Emil Eugene Thornton III of Collierville, Tenn. and Jason Overby Thornton of Memphis; one brother, James H. “Skeeta” Thornton of Batesville and three grandchildren.
