NP coach to be named soon, says new AD

By Brad Greer

North Panola High School’s search for a new head football coach is drawing to a conclusion, according to new athletic director Kevin Jones, a Vicksburg native. A new coach will be named shortly as the school looks to replace Vincent Johnson who is leaving the post after one season to return to his home state of Texas, Jones said.

“There were a number  of candidates that were interviewed,” Jones said when reached by phone Friday morning. “I think we’ve got it narrowed down right now and we’ve got a guy we’re going to go with. “

With preseason practice set to start August 6, Jones said he was ready to get things in place.

“We’ve been in negotiations with somebody and had a meeting with  our principle last week so we’ve got a guy in mind.”

Jones went on to say how big of a loss Johnson was to the program and that he thought Johnson had things heading in the right direction but family concerns were a big part of his departure.

“I hate to lose coach Johnson but his family comes first and you’ve got to respect that,” he said.

Without getting specific, Jones said some of the assistant coaches from last year will remain with the program.
