Two SP  coaches make short list

I guess at one time I thought all the coaches of the year were chosen, but I looked at Rod Walker’s blog for yesterday.

It was asking opinions or talkbacks for, I guess, the overall coach of the year.

Listed were two of South Panola’s coaches former football coach Ricky Woods and fastpitch softball coach Ashleigh Hicks.

There were only five listed including Thomas Billups, Jerry Boatner and Charles Williams. I did not go back and research where these other three coaches are or what they did. I remember the names, but not the school or sport with which they are associated.

I thought it was such an honor for coach Hicks to be the only female listed in that impressive club. If she did not get the overall honor, she made the short list. Go, coach!

I have said it before. I will say it again. Who can replace a legend?

Coach Woods made himself a legend with his accomplishments before and during his stay at South Panola.

To say he tops that short list would not be an understatement. Other coaches are probably glad he won’t be on the list next year so they will have a chance.

If people take the time to notice your South Panola paraphernalia, that automatically shoots you to the top of the list. The football team has put this school in the forefront and everyone else benefits from that fame.

So to coaches Woods and Hicks, you already top my list.
