Carline R. Wilson

POPE – Carline R. Wilson, 95, widow of Walter Guy “Smokey” Wilson died Friday, May 4, 2007.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. Pharsalia Baptist Church in Pope. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.

Survivors include one son Grady W. Wilson of Starkville and one sister Virginia Rowsey Nelson of Southaven.

Violet Holmes Burgos

BATESVILLE–Violet Holmes Burgos, 85, died Monday, April 30, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Burgos, born March 1, 1922, in Tulsa, Okla. to the late Charlie and Viola Sandland Holmes, was a retired factory worker for Griffin Light Company of Shelby.
Survivors include: her husband, Benjamin S. Burgos of Batesville; two sisters, Christine Holmes Martin of Sardis and Mary Holmes Bishop of Batesville and one brother, Jack Holmes of Terry.

Emma Jane  Devers Burks

MEMPHIS–Emma Jane  Devers Burks, 90, formerly of Batesville, died April 28, 2007 at Baptist East in Memphis.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Rev. Gary McDade will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
Burks, born May 18, 1917, in  Waynesboro, Tenn. to the late James Monroe and Affie Godwind Devers, was a homemaker.
Survivors include: three sons, Randy Dale Burks of Robbinsville, Jimmy Phillip Burks and Layden Varner Burks, both of Memphis; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Sabrina Antoinette Childs

SARDIS–Sabrina Antoinette Childs, 23, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Water Valley. Rev. Preston Gleeton will officiate. Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery in Sardis. Visitation is today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Childs, born Aug. 1, 1983, to Bobby Hayes Clark of Jackson and Cynthia Lynn Childs Frost of Batesville, was a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church.
Survivors along with her parents include: two sons, Kamel L. Gleeton and Markel A. Gleeton, both of Sardis; five brothers, Antonio Childs of Memphis, Courtney Hughes, Kendric Hughes, Brondreekcus Hughes and Brudarius Hughes, all of Batesville; two sisters, Vernasia Frost of Batesville and Krystal Frost of East St. Louis, Mo.; her grandmother, Katherine Clark of Batesville; her godmother, Faye Hughes of Batesville and her step-father, Willie Frost of Batesville.

Herman “Butch” L. Taylor

SARDIS–-Herman “Butch” L. Taylor, 61, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sardis Lake Dam. His remains will be cremated.
Taylor, born Aug. 9, 1945, to the late Herman Scott and the late Mary Brooks Taylor, was a laborer at Springs Industries in Sardis.
Survivors include numerous cousins.

Lou Thornton

POPE–-Lou Thornton, 96, died Monday, April 30, 2007, at her granddaughter’s residence in Pope.
Services are Saturday at  2 p.m. at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Willie Forest  will officiate Burial will be in Springhill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Pope. Visitation will be today 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home. Hodges Funeral Home has charge.
Thornton, was a homemaker and a member of Springhill M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, William Thornton and one daughter, Ethel Lee Sanford.
Survivors include: 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Collums Wood

MARKS–Dorothy Collums Wood, 80, died Monday, April 30, 2007, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks.
Services were Wednesday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Rev. John Tedder officiated. Burial was in Belen Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Wood, born Jan. 2, 1927, was a member of Belen Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell T. Wood.
Survivors include: four daughters, Carolyn Wood and Susan Wood, both of Marks, Linda Fowler of Batesville and Beverly Gandy of Senatobia; one son, Tommy Wood of Germantown, Tenn.;  three sisters, Etoyle Dickey and Clarice Foshee, both of Belen and Jessie Smith of Ripley, Tenn.; three brothers, Connie Collums of Pascagoula, Curtis Collums of Columbus and James Collums of Mexico.
