LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Daughter remembers Morris
On last Friday, I arrived home to my parents’ home and began reading The Panolian. As I continued to read, I came to the editorial section and started reading Mr. Billy Davis’ editorial on my beloved father.
Mr. Davis’ editorial summed up just a small portion of my father’s legacy and leadership. This editorial presented the Leonard Morris that was not only state representative, but the man who loved his family and the Concord-Macedonia communities. My father’s leadership was like a game of tennis: The player who serves well seldom loses. We will forever remember his perseverance and tenacity. However, we must remain cognizant of his innate abilities to provide the best quality of leadership for the citizens of Panola and Tate counties and the entire State of Mississippi.
Whoever will replace him must lead us safely over this state terrain. He or she should exemplify discernment and discipline to safely direct the paths of those who will follow. I urge the communities to be mindful of the qualifications set forth and of their predecessor’s fight for this community and the state.
In conclusion, leadership is hard to define but we recognize it by observing those who respond to it. Some lead by managing an organization based on accepted values; others lead by changing others to accept their new values. Leadership changes with differing situations, as the leadership skills needed. My father answered the call, facilitated and exemplified leadership.
Sincerely, Lenora Morris
