OXFORD – George Edward Samuels, 81, died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at his residence.
Services were Monday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cold Springs Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Samuels, born Dec. 28, 1924, in Crenshaw to the late Frank Luther Samuels and Mary Lenora Osborn Samuels, was a meat cutter and a salesman for Meek’s Auto Sales. He served in the Navy during WWII and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Kelley Samuels of Oxford; one daughter, Donna Rhyne of Water Valley; three sisters, Connie Tubbs of Sardis, Tina Hanks of Batesville and Mary Simmons of Olive Branch, and one grandchild.
SANDERS, Eunice Fite
BATESVILLE- Eunice Fite Sanders, 98, died Saturday, January 21, 2006, at Beverly Health Care.
Graveside services were Monday at Colds Springs Cemetery. Rev. Gregg Johnston officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Sanders, born Aug. 3, 1907, in Como to the late Joe Fite and the late Rosa Saunders Fite, was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Howard Leon Sanders of Batesville; one sister, Florence Harrison of New Orleans, La.; three grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

PALMETTO, Fla. – Moses Sanders, 64, formerly of Crenshaw, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at his sister’s residence in Crenshaw.
Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Askew Grove M.B. Church in Longtown. Burial will be in Askew Grove Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.
Sanders was a member of Providence M.B. Church in Palmetto, Fla.

COURTLAND – Jessie James Sanford, 76, died Wednesday, November 23, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services were Monday at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Warren Johnson officiated. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home had charge.
Sanford was member of Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where he was a trustee and steward. He was also a retired janitor.
Survivors include his wife Mona Sanford of Courtland; three daughters, Mary Pearl Jones and Deloise Sanford, both of Courtland and Elaine Burgess of Batesville; six sons, James Sanford, Bobby Sanford, Jeffery Sanford, Rickey Sanford, all of Courtland, David Sanford of Pope and Jerry Sanford of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Lucindy Herring of Courtland and Urna Sanford of Batesville; six brothers, James Sanford, Lindsey Sanford Sr., Sidney Sanford and Alto Sanford, all of Courtland; Linwood Sanford of St. Paul, Minn. and Louis Sanford of Batesville; 40 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.

POPE – Robert Lee "Bobby" Sanford Jr., 54, died Wednesday, February, 22, 2006, at his residence.
Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pope. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Sanford, born Nov. 10, 1951, to the late Robert Lee Sanford Sr. and Robbie Mothershead Sanford, was a construction worker and a member of Friendship Church of God.
Survivors, along with his mother, include his wife, Diane Howell Davis Sanford of Pope; two sons, Hal Davis of Oxford and Kevin Davis of Batesville; one sister, Sandra S. Vest of Hernando and four grandchildren.

Sanford was born Nov. 5, 1928, to the late Robert E. Sanford and the late Haysee Ferrell Sanford.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lou Wilson Sanford of Sardis; two daughters, Mary Jean Moore of Batesville and Dena Marie Sanford of Sardis; one son-in-law, David Moore Sr. and four grandchildren, David Moore Jr., Brian Moore, Steven Moore and Laura Moore, all of Batesville.
SAVAGE, Gloria Jones Grozinger
SOUTHAVEN – Gloria Jones Grozinger Savage, 57, died Thursday, August 10, 2006, at her residence.
Services were Saturday at Crowder Baptist Church. Rev. Cecil Walker officiated. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Savage, born Feb. 28, 1949, in Marks, was retired from the Wal-Mart accounting department and she was a member of First Abundant Pentecostal Church of Nesbit.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Beulah Jones and Rhine and Edna Wallace and her parents, Frankie Jones Jr. and Ruthie Wallace Jones.
Survivors include one son, Jeff Grozinger of Southaven; two daughters, Marcie Myles Grozinger of Nashville, Tenn. and Christie Savage of Southaven; two sisters, Frankie Weaver of Crowder and Debbie Bentley of Lewisville, Texas; aunts and uncles, Bobby Joe and Doris Pittman of Batesville and Bobby Joe and Laverne Rodgers of Batesville; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
SAWYER, John Edward "Buz"
SARDIS – Mr. John Edward "Buz" Sawyer, 52, died Thursday March 9, 2006, at his parents’ home in Sardis.
Services were held Saturday, March 11, at the Como Church of Christ with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Ministers Jim Howard and Brian Tipton officiated. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Buz was born Sept. 18, 1953. He is survived by his parents, Roy H. Sawyer Jr. and Marjorie West Sawyer. He leaves behind Nancy Sawyer and their eight-year-old daughter Rachel Cheyenne Sawyer; a sister Sheri Sawyer Salley of Valparaiso, Ind.; a brother Roy H. "Rick" Sawyer III. of Daphne, Ala. and a step-grandmother, Deloise B. West.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents J.Q. West Sr., Jo Addie Stovall West, Roy H. Sawyer Sr. and Sallye House Sawyer.

Scallorn, born May 9, 1931, in Winsborough, La., to the late Johnnie Windham Jordan and the late Minnie Hatten Jordan, was a telephone operator.

SCHIELE, Robert Hugo
LAMBERT – Robert Hugo Schiele, 93, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Quitman County Hospital.
Services were Thursday at First Baptist Church in Lambert. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Rev. Don O’Quin and Rev. Wayne Long officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Schiele, born Aug. 14, 1912, in Henderson, Tenn., served in the US Army during World War II, attached to the 29th Infantry in Normandy. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lambert where he served as a deacon. He was also a Mason.
Survivors include his wife Marlene Schiele of Lambert; one daughter Rhonda Newton of Vicksburg; one son Bob Schiele of Marks; two sisters, Marie Brasher of Lambert and Louise Brasher of California; one brother Max Schiele of Lambert; and three grandchildren.

LAMBERT- Walter David Schiele, 55, died Sunday, September 24, 2006, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks. He was the brother of Ruthie Moore of Batesville.

Schiele, born July 31, 1951, in Quitman County, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lambert and was a retired farmer.

BATESVILLE – Dorothy M. Schultz, 87, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Schultz, born June 12, 1918, in Panola County to the late Ben E. and Bessie Carpenter Murphree, was a member of Courtland Methodist Church and a retired office manager for Air-Kontrol.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Payne Schultz.
Survivors include one nephew, Ben Benson of Pope.
SCOTT, Robbie Bell McMinn
RIDGELAND – Robbie Bell McMinn Scott, 81, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, Highland Home Nursing Home in Ridgeland.
Services are today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is also today from 1 p.m. until service. Burial will be in Goodhope Cemetery in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Scott was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Panola County to the late Robert Boyce and the late Amanda Quebelle Johnson McMinn, graduated from Courtland High School, and received her B.A. and master’s degrees from The University of Mississippi. She was one of the first special education teachers in the state of Mississippi and retired after 30 years of teaching. She taught at many schools, including Church Street Elementary School in Tupelo and Central and Calloway High Schools in Jackson. She was a member of Broadmeadow United Methodist Church in Jackson.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Joann McMinn Mullan.
Survivors include her husband of 61 1/2 years, Robert S. "Bob" Scott of Jackson; daughter and granddaughters Cindy Scott Soro, Vanessa and Amanda, all of Olive Branch; one son, Tony Scott of San Francisco, Calif.; one sister, Jane McMinn Morris of Courtland; one brother Paul McMinn of Jacksonville, Fla. and she is also survived by the hundreds of special education students she taught during her educational career, all of whom she considered her "kids."
SEAY, Addie "Chubby" Lee
BATESVILLE- Addie "Chubby" Lee Seay, 87, husband of Robert James Seay, died Monday, July 24, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services were Thursday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Michael Evans officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers were James Finnie, Ronald McMinn, Billy Bell, Charlie Baker, Wade Meek and John Johnson.
Seay, born April 15, 1919, in Panola County to the late Jerome Rasberry Ragon and the late Willie Elizabeth Downs Ragon, was retired from Panola Mills, a member of Eureka Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ezell Ragon, John Ragon and Watt Ragon and one sister Annie Mae McMinn.
Besides her husband of 72 years survivors include: one son, Robert L. Seay of Batesville and one daughter, Lou Neil Morris of Batesville; four grandchildren, Brian Seay, Paul Seay, Tracey Morris and Keith Morris and five great-grandchildren, Bailey Seay, Avery Seay, Molly Seay, Caitlin Seay and Taylor Morris.

WINONA – Bessie Mae Burchfield Holly Self, 82, died Friday, February 10, 2006, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona. She was the mother of Nancy Hatcher of Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernie McCain Self; brothers Jerry "Pee Wee" Self and Fred Self, and sisters, Bertha Winters and Ruby Self Johnson.

Shackeroff, born September 20, 1922, in Clarksdale to the late Jacob and Freda Woolbert Fink, was co-owner and operator, along with her late husband, of Shackeroff’s Dept. Store until 1983. She received a bachelor of arts degree in fine arts from Louisiana State University where she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority. She married Edwin B. Shackeroff on Feb. 6, 1947, and was active in many Jewish services and organizations. She was a member of Temple Judea and The Reform Temple of Leisure World.
Her sister, Pauline Fink Addelson, died the same day as Marion, five hours later. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Shackeroff Sr., her parents and one brother, Alvin Fink.
Survivors include one son Edwin B. Shackeroff Jr., M.D. and wife Jin Reiser Shackeroff, M.D. of Laguna Hills, Calif. and grandchildren Phoebe, Janna, and Kieran Reiser and Tia Shackeroff.

ENID – James Willie Shannon, 67, died Thursday, October 12, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Shannon, born April 18, 1939, to Essie Mae Robinson Shannon and the late Bossie D. Shannon, was a retired mechanic and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Enid where he was deacon and treasurer.
Survivors include his wife, Klara Shannon of Enid; his mother, Essie Mae Shannon of Enid; four daughters, Gwendolyn Shannon and Sherley Lyons, both of Enid and Cynthia Cole and Darlister Cosby, both of Batesville; three sons, Jimmy Shannon of Courtland, James A. Survivors include two sons, Thomas A. Sims Jr. and William Leroy Thornton; one sister, Sadie Logan of Lambert and two grandchildren.

Smith, born March 22, 1939, in Batesville to the late Morris and Lillian Bishop Smith, was a ramp serviceman for Airlines Company and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Mays of North Las Vegas, N.D. and Marcie Campbell of Riverside, Calif.
SMITH, Ernest Joseph "Jack"
BATESVILLE – Ernest Joseph "Jack" Smith, 72, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services were Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Batesville-Magnolia Cemetery. Dr. Martin Case and Rev. Ed Woodall officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Smith, born Sept. 30, 1933, to Elijah Verna and Fannie Embrey Smith, graduated from Mississippi State University in 1955 and married the former Mary Grace Currier of Myrtle. He served two years in the U.S. Army and retired after 30 years with the Mississippi State Highway Department. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved fishing. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batesville.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Grace Currier Smith, his sons Mike Smith and wife Ryna of Batesville, Bob Smith and wife Heather of Hernando; his daughter, Vicki Smith Veazey and husband Patrum of Brandon; his sister, Tawanda Rhodes of Holly Springs; six grandchildren, Kelly Cosby and Emily Smith of Batesville, Molly and Landon of Hernando and Booth and Joseph Veazey of Brandon.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Edward Smith Jr.

BATESVILLE – Jerry "Danny" Dan Smith Jr., 40, is thought to have died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at his residence.
Memorial services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in Enid. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Smith, born May 29, 1966, in Batesville to Shirley Goodwin Smith and the late Jerry D. Smith, was a 1985 graduate of South Panola High School in Batesville, a printer and commercial licensed driver, and a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Shirley Goodwin Malone and Larry Malone of Batesville, one daughter, Taylor Brooks Smith of Clarksdale; three sisters, Lynn Smith Jones of Lexa, Ark., Theresa Laverne Bearden of Plano, Texas and Mary Gail Gallardo of Pasadena, Texas.
SMITH, Lelia Ann Burkhalter
GREENVILLE – Lelia Ann Burkhalter Smith, 72, died Wednesday January 18, 2006, at her residence.
Services were Saturday, January 21, 2006, at Trinity Methodist Church. Burial was in Enid Oakhill Cemetery in Enid. Mortimer Funeral Home had charge.
Smith, born to the late James and Martha Sivley Womack, was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Burkhalter of Enid.
Survivors include three daughters, Roberta Ann Woodward of Meridian, Beverly Ann Evans and Billie Whit Purvis, both of Greenville; one son, Robert David Burkhalter of Batesville; two sisters, Joyce Whitaker and Martha Mae Byers, both of Batesville; one brother, James Lewis Womack of Titusville, Fla. and nine grandchildren.

Smith, born August 16, 1928, in Batesville to the late Martin Green and the late Bea Hillhouse Deaton, was the accountant for Plaza Jewelers and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gaines B. Smith of Batesville; one daughter, Lisa Smith Gray of Batesville; one son, Mark Deaton Smith of Batesville; one sister Elizabeth Deaton Rosenbloom of Arab, Ala.; four grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

GREENLEAF- Stephanie Ann Grace Smith, 21, died Thursday, March 21, 2006, in Memphis.

Smith was a shift manager for restaurant services at Horshoe Casino and a member of Strayhorn Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jamie Smith.

Smothers, born Sept. 3, 1928, in Yalobusha County, was a Mason and a member of Blue Lake Baptist Church. He was also a retired farmer and long-time employee of Emhart’s.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Madison Smothers of Lambert; one daughter, Betty Smothers Burton of Clarksdale; one son, Billy Holland Smothers Jr. of Lambert; one sister, Sis Walker of Pontotoc; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

BATESVILLE – Ruth L. Staley, 82, formerly of Desoto County, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 11 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will follow in Twin Oaks Memorial Park in Southaven.

BATESVILLE- Avance Stanford, 87, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at his residence.
Services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive M.B. Church. Rev. W.L. Nash will officiate. Burial will be at Macedonia Cemetery in Batesville. Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, from 1 to 6 p.m. Eddie Robinson and Son has charge.
Stanford was born April 14, 1918, in Quitman County to the late Riley Stanford and the late Gertrude Stanford. He was a World War II veteran and a retired farmer of Panola County. He was a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church where he served as a faithful deacon until his recent illness.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Aszlean Rayford Stanford; ten children, Paulette Goins of Sardis, Tommie Stanford of Jackson, Shirley Fox of Bruce, Roy Lamar Stanford of Memphis, LaVerne Stanford of Batesville, Michael Stanford and Angela Michelle Walker of Detroit, Mich., Denise Bowen of Memphis, Rickey Stanford of Batesville and Keith Stanford of Memphis; one sister, Ocola Newell of Memphis, 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
STANLEY, Paul Herbert Sr.
BATESVILLE – Paul Herbert Stanley Sr., 85, died Friday, August 25, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery. Dr. Greg Johnston officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Stanley, born May 13, 1921, to the late Louis and Edna Wood Stanley in Crockett County, Tenn., was a member of the First Baptist Church of Batesville. He was the senior vice president at Du-Stan Company in Memphis where he was employed for over 30 years. He also served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Smith Stanley of Batesville; one daughter, Lea Anne Stanley Kain of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Paul Herbert Stanley Jr. of Batesville; one sister, Frances Stanley of Memphis and one grandchild, Leslie Kain.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to the Baptist Children’s Village or the First Baptist Church at 104 Panola Ave., Batesville.
STEPP, Andrew George Emanuel "Sonny"
SARDIS – Andrew George Emanuel "Sonny" Stepp, 68, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sardis. Visitation is today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sardis. Dr. David Ard, Rev. Jerry Sanford and Hal Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
Stepp, born Sept. 26, 1937, to the late Harvey Manuel Stepp and Mary Jane Roberson Stepp, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sardis, where he served as a deacon and was a member of Men’s I Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Mississippi Trooper’s Association, the American Association of State Troopers and the Mississippi Law Enforcement Association. He served as a Mississippi State Trooper from 1963-1997 and served as police chief in Sardis from March 1, 2000 – August 31, 2005. He traveled with the Ole Miss Football team for 20 plus years, serving as the coach’s escort.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Ard Stepp of Sardis; two sons, Andy Stepp of Bruce and Mike Stepp of Holly Springs; three sisters, Addie Smith of Alton, Ill., Frances Sutton of Tupelo and Hester Sellers of Pontotoc; two brothers, Gene Stepp of Thaxton and Gary Stepp of Senatobia and four grandchildren.

SARDIS – Robert "Lynn" Stevens, 58, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at his residence.

Stevens, born Feb. 8, 1948, to Gladys Mae Riales Stevens and the late John Wesley Stevens, was a craftsman and a member of Peach Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors, along with his mother, include his wife, Pam Stevens; two daughters, Michelle Lynn Stevens of Sardis and Monica Lynn McClintic of Hernando; two sons, Mark Alan Stevens of Houston, Texas and Robert Chad Stevens of Corpus Christie, Texas; two sisters, Frieda Kennedy and Ouida Kennedy, both of Sardis; three brothers, Larry Stevens, Roger Stevens and Andy Stevens, all of Sardis and two grandchildren.

CLARKSDALE – Billy Jean Stewart, 69, died Thursday, August 24, 2006, at VA Medical Center in Memphis.

Stewart, born Sept. 17, 1936, in Bruce to the late Mittie Gullick Stewart and Arnold Bryant Stewart, was a member of Assembly of God. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Warrene Stewart of Clarksdale; one daughter, Cynthia Hickey of Clarksdale; three sons, Tracy Stewart and Nathan Stewart, both of Clarksdale and Joseph Stewart of Amory; four sisters, Dorothy Morganti, Helen Brower and Faye Walker, all of Batesville, and Martha McGinnis of Haleyville, Ala. and six grandchildren.

Still, born June 20, 1927, in Sardis to the late Elbert Lee and Della Irene McKee Still, was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a retired stock broker and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Herring Williams Still of Batesville; two step-daughters, Linda Williams Joiner of Batesville and Shelia Williams Simmons of Vicksburg; four step-sons, Terry Williams Sr. of Batesville, Mike Williams of Pearl, and Jimmy Williams and DeWayne Williams, both of Batesville; nine step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE- Dorothy Corine Williams Still, 78, died Monday, September 11, 2006, at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her husbands James T. Williams and David H. Still and one daughter, Brenda Williams Youngblood.
Survivors include: two daughters; Linda Williams Joiner of Batesville and Shelia Williams Simmons of Vicksburg; four sons, Terry Williams, Jimmy Williams and Dewayne Williams, all of Batesville and Mike Williams of Pearl; one sister, Margie Herring Clark of Batesville; one brother, Carl Herring Jr. of Silvercreek; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
STOGNER, Olson Thomas
HATTIESBURG – Olson Thomas Stogner, 89, died Saturday, September 23, 2006, at Loyalton of Hattiesburg. He was the father of Chim Stogner of Batesville.
Services were Tuesday, September 26, at Tylertown Baptist Church. Rev. Buddy Day officiated. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Tylertown. Capps Funeral Home had charge.
Stogner was born in the New Zion Community, Walthall County, Miss. on Dec. 14, 1916, son of the late Chalmus Olson Stogner and Bertha Waldrop Stogner. He attended New Zion High School.
He worked with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in 1941. He was in the United States Air Force during World War II and flew in the first 1,000-plane raid over Berlin. He was a cattleman and timber farmer and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years until his retirement in 1980. He was an avid golfer and gardener.
Stogner was a member of Tylertown Baptist Church where he was a deacon, former Sunday School director and choir member, as well as music director for the Walthall Baptist Association. He was a former Scoutmaster for Troop 138, and was a member of the American Legion. He served as a former member of the board of directors of the Walthall County Cattlemen’s Association and was a former active member of the Chamber of Commerce, serving on many of its key committees. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He attended Southwest Mississippi Junior College, took classes from the University of Southern Mississippi and was a member of the USM Eagle Club. He was a member of the Southwest Mississippi Junior College Development Foundation, a former Alumni of the Year at Southwest, and was currently an honorary director of the Alumni Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Helen Applewhite Stogner, and by his brother, Reverend William Stogner.
Survivors, along with his son, include his daughter, Judy Staggs and husband Dr. David Staggs of Ft. Smith, Ark.; one grandson, Jody Staggs of Dallas, Texas; two granddaughters, Jenna Staggs of Dallas, Texas, and Jamie Staggs of St. Louis, Mo.; four sisters, Mrs. N.F. (Elizabeth) Davis, Iris Graves and husband Ewell of Tylertown, Virginia McKie and husband Bill of Brandon, and Phoebe Pope of Baton Rouge and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Pallbearers were: Dr. Keith Davis, Jody Staggs, Kent Davis, John McKie, Nathan Graves and Stanley Reeves.
Honorary Pallbearers were the deacons of Tylertown Baptist Church.
STURDIVANT, Kathleen
CROWDER- Kathleen Sturdivant, 59, died Saturday, December 9, 2006, at her residence.
Services were Tuesday at National Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Rev. Larry Kilgore and Rev. Edward Shoemaker officiated. Burial was in Philadelphia Methodist Church Cemetery in Heidelberg. National Funeral Home had charge.
Sturdivant, born Dec. 22, 1946, to the late Admiral and Ethel Brown, was a Baptist. She was an avid bowler and former member of several bowling leagues. She graduated from Phillips County Community College and was also a retired cosmetologist for Nancy’s Beauty Shop in Clarksdale where she worked for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Kali Parker Self.
Survivors include: one daughter, Vicki Smith and husband Jimmie of Courtland; two brothers, A.D. "Butch" Brown and wife Sandra of Eunice, La. and Robert H. Brown and wife Dianne of Southaven; one granddaughter, Tisha Self and husband Michael of Crowder; one grandson, Jim Smith and wife Crystal of Richland; two great-granddaughters, Haylee and Rylee Self of Crowder and many nieces and nephews.
SULLIVAN, Jason Delanti Jr.
BATESVILLE – Jason Delanti Sullivan Jr. was stillborn Monday, August 28, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis.
Graveside services were Thursday at Macedonia Cemetery. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Survivors include his parents, Jason Delanti Sullivan and Koretta Kitchens Sullivan of Batesville; his grandparents, Roosevelt and Norva Kitchens, Sandra Sullivan, and George and Linda Sullivan, all of Batesville, and his great-grandmother, Severia Sullivan of Batesville.
SUTTON, Joseph Franklin "Joe"
POPE – Joseph Franklin "Joe" Sutton, 74, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Sutton, born Jan. 12, 1932, in Quitman County to the late David and Thelma Williams Sutton, was a member of Pope Baptist Church and a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Roma Jean Russell Sutton of Pope; two daughters, Lisa Sutton Cox of Chandler, Texas and Leigh Ann Sutton Benson of Pope; two sisters, Martha Sutton Smith of Batesville and Thelma Sutton Ray of Madison and three grandchildren, Jodi Cox, Nicole Benson and Tyler Benson.
