Shoe theft kicks off long session in Batesville Municipal Court

A young man was found guilty in Batesville Municipal Court of shoplifting at Rack Room Shoes after the clerk told Judge William McKenzie she saw him leave the store with a pair of K Swiss shoes.

Fredrick Holmes of Lot 28 CR 1090, Batesville, was fined $595 in Wednesday’s court session.
Malicious mischief

Brandon Taylor of 107 Vance St., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to a malicious mischief charge. A trial was set for August 5.

Disorderly conduct
Timmy Barlow of 1794 Hughes Rd., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply with the arresting officer’s request to stop fighting with Joseph Morris. He was fined $605.

Jonathan Morris of 21374 Hwy. 6 East, Batesville, had a disorderly conduct and reckless driving charge dropped after the affiant William Bell told Judge McKenzie he didn’t want to press the charges.
 
Morris had another charge of reckless driving (drag racing). He entered a not guilty plea and a trial was set.

Joseph Morris of 21374 Hwy. 6 East, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to a charge of drag racing with Jonathan Morris on Pamela Street. A trial was set.

Markendrick Dunnigan of 12902 Ballentine Rd., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply with the police officer’s request to calm down and stop shouting at Timber Ridge Apartments. He was fined $605.

Domestic violence
Andre Middleton
of 2030 Good hope Rd., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault.  A trial was set for
August 3.

Timothy Rodgers of 126 Johnson St., Batesville, was found guilty of domestic violence-simple (second offense) and old fines that have been due since April of 2003. He told Judge McKenzie he had a broken leg and surgery on his back causing him not to work.

He is to satisfy a fine of $4,322. Judge McKenzie gave him 90 days to satisfy his fine so he can get his "medical problems straightened out."

Timothy Austin of 104 Jones St., Batesville, was found guilty of domestic violence-simple assault (second offense). He was fined $205.

Simple assault
Reginald Stevenson of 25527 Hwy. 35, Sardis, was fined $477 for driving while license suspended and speeding. He also had a simple assault charge, but the affiant, Patrick Johnson dropped the charge.
DUI

Stanley Armstead of 331 Sherwood, Batesville, was fined $1,081, for DUI (BAC .290) and possession of marijuana-simple.

Failure to appear
Frank Williams of 2190 Sardis Lake Dr., Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges of DUI and failure to use a signal. Al Williams bonding company will be notified.

Contempt of court
Gail Collins of 315 Mt. Olivet Rd., Batesville, had old fines of $385 that have been due since March of 2004. She was ordered to pay the fine by August 1 or serve 90 days in jail.

Tamika Smallie
of 118 Sherwood, Batesville, had old fines of $602 that had been due since May 2004. She was ordered to pay the fine by August 1 or serve 90 days in jail.

Rodney Griffin of 202-B Chapeltown, Batesville, is to satisfy a total of old fines of $640 by performing public service in the city’s work release program. Participation in the work program is an option for defendants who cannot pay their fines.

False pretense
Holly French of 116 Pope-Crowder Rd., Pope, was fined $1,220 for four counts of false pretense.

Other cases
Michael James of 949-A Wells Ext., Courtland, was fined $2,382, for DUI-other, possession of paraphernalia, no proof of insurance and no driver’s license.

Clinton Shields of 19576 Hwy. 6, Batesville, had a trespassing charge dismissed after the affiant Donald Matthews failed to appear.

Perry Poole of 113-C Cole Dr., Batesville, is to satisfy a fine of $620 for open container and possession of marijuana-simple by serving 16 days on the city’s work release program.

Tickets
Jennifer Buckner of 718 University, Oxford, was fined for speeding, invalid tag and driving while license suspended. After providing proof of a valid tag and a license reinstatement, a lower fine of $402 was imposed.

Jennifer N. Mayer of 29205 Hwy. 6 #1837, Batesville, had an expired tag case dismissed after providing proof of a tag.

Calvert Smith of 2789 Hwy. 6 East, Batesville, enrolled in the city work program for 17 days instead of paying a fine of $677 for no driver’s license, improper equipment and open container.

Alfonzo Webb of 110 Williams St., Batesville, was fined for no proof of insurance, no tag and no driver’s license. After providing proof of insurance and a valid tag, a lower fine of $544 was imposed.

Isaac Lee Banks of 205-C Lester St., Batesville, was fined for driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance, improper equipment and expired tag. A lower fine of $750 was imposed after he provided proof of insurance and proof of a valid tag.

Robert M. Phillips of 112 Boothe St., Batesville, was fined for no driver’s license and loud music. A lower fine of $271 was imposed after he provided his driver’s license.

Lisa M. Edwards of 404 Alcorn St., Sardis, was fined $1,071 for no proof of insurance.

Angela Sanford of 206 Tubbs Rd., Batesville, was fined $469 for speeding and driving while license suspended.

Jessie L. Jefferson of 1042 Trantham Rd., Batesville, was fined $1,427 for no proof of insurance and driving while license suspended.

Charlie Heath of 129 Greg Taylor, Courtland, was fined $265 for open container.

Jimmie L. Shaw of 111 Shaw Rd., Pope, was fined $184 for expired tag.

Editor’s note: The charge against Mario Chapman of 334-A Butler, Batesville, listed in the Municipal Court report in the July 15 issue of The Panolian, was incorrect. The correct charge was expired tag.
