Kilgore serving internship with Panolian this summer
University of Mississippi sophomore Madison Kilgore has joined The Panolian staff as a summer intern. The Ole Miss journalism major began work May 16 immediately following completion of her freshman year.

Kilgore’s internship is supplemented by a grant from a Mississippi Press Association program created to assist journalism majors and member newspapers.

"Madison is a talented, self-starter. She was able to help us the first day she arrived," News Editor Rita Howell said.

Madison is the daughter of Don and Gina Kilgore of Batesville and was an honor graduate of North Delta School.

At Ole Miss she has been named to the Chancellor’s honor roll and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society and Chi Omega sorority.

Past summer employment has included serving as a lifeguard at the Panola Country Club and as a counselor at Oxford’s Camp Hopewell.

In addition to her summer journalism internship, Madison will take summer courses at Northwest Mississippi Community College.

"We are fortunate to have her for the summer. She has already made a difference in expanding our coverage and reducing our workload," Howell said.

Panola Playhouse announces auditions for upcoming children’s production
The Panola Playhouse will present the musical Godspell Junior for its annual summer children’s show.

For four decades the local little theater has been providing performance opportunities for children and youth.

Auditions for the play will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 11 at the Panola Playhouse, located at 212 South Main Street in Sardis.  Rehearsals will begin the following week. This production will have four performances that will run from July 28 through July 31.

The June 11 auditions for the show are open for boys and girls aged 9 – 17, and about 25 to 31 young folks will be chosen for the production. The Godspell Junior performers must be under the age of 18 at the time of the late July performances. Those young people who plan to try out for a part do not need to prepare in any way for their auditions. The production staff will teach a song to everyone who participates in the try-outs.

Most rehearsals for Godspell Junior will be held at night.  Closer to the performance there may be some rehearsals during the day, and there’ll be at least one all-day Saturday session.

Godspell Junior was written by three-time Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz. Drawing from various theatrical traditions, such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville, this musical is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love.

This production’s director, Carlton Dixon, says he hopes that the young people of North Mississippi will mark their calendars for the June 11 auditions. He wants them to join in the fun of being part of this special play this summer.  Interested persons may contact Dixon at 662-562-5888 (day) or 662-487-2611 (night).
