A Water Valley woman was found guilty of shoplifting in Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday. Judge Pro Tempore Jay Westfaul, presiding in the absence of Judge Bill McKenzie, imposed a fine of $595 against Brandice Hall, 2714 CR 53, Water Valley. Hall was charged with shoplifting $95 worth of undergarments from Vanity Fair store on

December 6.
Store employees testified that they witnessed Hall stuffing merchandise into a diaper bag-type purse she was carrying. She was stopped in the parking lot and the clothing was retrieved, they said. The judge suspended a 30-day jail sentence provided Hall pays the fine in full within 30 days.

Eddie Holloway of 2574 Sardis Lake Drive, Sardis, was fined $255 and ordered to pay $715.10 in restitution after the judge found him guilty of simple assault. The affiant, Regina Hale, said she had car repair and medical bills totaling that amount. Holloway was also ordered to pay $510 in old fines. Judge Westfaul suspended a 30-day jail sentence provided Holloway pays the total within 30 days.

Calvin Goad of 206 Hunter Creek, Charleston, was found guilty of reckless driving and fined $165. He was also ordered to pay restitution of $511.51 to Amy Dimberg for damage to her car. Goad was orderd to pay the full amount within 30 days.

The judge reduced substantially the fine imposed against Bobby Horton of 25447 Highway 35 North, Sardis, after Horton showed proof of insurance. He was fined $380 for possession of alcohol by a minor and careless driving. Judge Westfaul also dismissed a charge of driving without a license when Horton showed he has a valid license.

Cases continued:
The judge continued the case of Calvin Curry, 1304 Curtis-Locke St., Batesville, until February 23. Curry is charged with false pretense.

Also continued was a case involving a traffic violation. Charlene G. Green of 115 Autumn Ave., Batesville, is to return to court next Wednesday to show she has a valid driver’s license. She is also charged with running a red light.

Traffic tickets
Billy Green Jr. of 220 Broadway, Batesville, pleaded guilty to no driver’s license and expired tag, and said he would return to court on January 19 to show proof of insurance.

Jessie J. Simmerman III of 42 Homer Massey Rd., Batesville, charged with no driver’s license, had his case remanded to the files after the judge learned he has a learner’s permit.

Hazel Mae Burns of Rt. 1, Box 308, Marks, had her fine reduced from $1055 to $155 after she showed proof that she has obtained car insurance.
