TALLANT, Steven Earl Jr.
CLARKSDALE – Steven Earl Tallant Jr., 38, died Monday, May 30, 2005, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at National Funeral Chapel in Clarksdale. Rev. Bob Hickey and Rev. Rusty Fair will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. until service time. National Funeral Home has charge.
Tallant, born Aug. 31, 1966, born to Linda Clampit Tallant and the late Steven Earl Tallant Sr., was a Baptist and a mechanic.
Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Amos and Sue Clampit and his grandfather, DeVoe Tallant.
Survivors, along with his mother, include his sister, Stephanie Dykes of Clarksdale; his grandmother, Etoile Tallant Barker of Batesville and a niece and nephew.

SARDIS– Mario "Sam" Tamboli, 82, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Batesville. Father Sam Messina will officiate. Graveside services will be in Memory Hill Gardens at 3 p.m.
Tamboli, born Sept. 4, 1922, to the late Ruggero "Roy" Tamboli and the late Gesomanda Greganti Tamboli, was an electrician and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a Navy veteran during WWII for six years.
Survivors include his wife Rose Catherine Rasbach Tamboli of Sardis; four sons, Robert Tamboli of Clearwater, Fla., William Tamboli of Macon, Ga., Patrick Tamboli and Roy Tamboli, both of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter Maria Windham of Sardis; three brothers, Robert Tamboli of Enid, Joe Tamboli and Frank Tamboli, both of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Lillian Baron and Julia Liberto, both of Memphis, Tenn., Mary Pittman of N.C. and Jose Smith of Fresno, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Tapper, born April 25, 1921, in Panola County to the late Robert Lewis and the late Ola Mae Anthony Bolton, was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Pope.
Survivors include her husband, Warren Tapper of Pope; one son Wayne Tapper of Pope; one sister, Aileen Bolton McMinn of Batesville; two brothers, James Lewis Bolton of Batesville and Carl Bolton of Courtland; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
TATE, Lenora
MARKS – Lenora Tate, 86, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services were Wednesday at Silent Grove M.B. Church in Marks. Evangelist Virginia Pollard officiated. Burial was in Booker Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Tate, born July 23, 1919, to the late Jacob Sanders and the late Ella Freeman, was a homemaker and a member of Second Concord M.B. Church.

TAYLOR, Marcelle J.
SENATOBIA – Marcelle J. Taylor, 85, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at her residence in Senatobia.
Services were Thursday at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Bethesda Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge.
Taylor was a member of the First Baptist Church in Senatobia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ottie Taylor.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay Minton of Senatobia; two sons, Ronnie Taylor and Bill Taylor, both of Senatobia; one sister, Virginia Ford of Batesville; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

TAYLOR, Marjorie Philpot
COMO – Majorie Philpot Taylor, 81, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Services were Sunday at Como United Methodist Church. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Como. Pate Jones Funeral Home had charge.
Taylor’s childhood home was Houston. Her family moved to Tupelo and during this time she attended Judson College. She transferred to the University of Mississippi where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. After graduating with a B.A. in home economics, she worked as a stewardess for American Airlines. Marjorie and Arthur R. Taylor Jr. were married May 7, 1948, and made their home in Como.
She devoted much of her time to the activities of Como Methodist Church. She was a M.Y.F. group leader, one of the founders of the local Explorer’s Bible Study and was instrumental in raising funds for the English Carillon bells in the church. She was a supporter of the arts, a member of Panola Playhouse in Sardis, the Como Opera Guild, the Como Garden Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Van Philpot.
Survivors include her husband Arthur R. Taylor Jr. of Como; one daughter, Lee Taylor Boyd of Camden, S.C.; three sons, Dr. Arthur R. Taylor III of Oak Ridge, N.C., Van Philpot Taylor of Como and David Kenneth Taylor of Como; two sisters, Grace Nelson of Anniston, Ala. and Lois Sandusky of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

SARDIS – Ricky Lane Taylor II, 33, died Saturday, July 23, 2005, in Sardis.

Taylor, born May 4, 1972, to Ricky Lane and Barbara Little Taylor, was a roofer for Otis Wolfe Roofing.
Survivors along with his parents include his wife Sarah Nolan Taylor of Sardis; one daughter Miranda Nichole Taylor of Sardis; one son Nathan Lane Taylor of Sardis and one brother Bradly Scott Taylor of Batesville.
TAYLOR, Robbie Inez Bevell
BATESVILLE–Robbie Inez Bevell Taylor, 81, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Taylor, born Dec. 3, 1923, to the late Edgar Thatcher Bevell and the late Mary Lilla Wilson Bevell, was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Oxford.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Burford Taylor, one brother Edgar Bevell and one sister Elva Bevell Cockrell.
Survivors include one daughter Beverly Taylor Pearson of Pope; one brother Grady Weldon Bevell of Grenada; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
TAYLOR, William Sledge Jr.
COMO– William Sledge Taylor Jr., 83, died of a heart attack Friday morning in his home. It was a fitting place. The Taylor home was the heart and soul of generations of Taylors, plus their neighbors and friends. It was the gathering place, and nothing gave Bill Taylor more pleasure than sitting around the family table, sharing stories of friends and loved ones with his wife, his children, and grandchildren.
"My father was a man of quite dignity and modest reserve," explained his son, Sledge. "He was respected for his integrity and sense of fairness, for being a man of his word. He was also known for his generosity to friends, family and the community. He led by example and earned the sincere respect of all who knew him.
"Dad also had a wonderful sense of humor and surprise, wry wit. There was often a twinkle of mischief in his eye. He loved a good yarn, and most of all, he loved his family."
Born in Sledge, Taylor attended Mississippi State University, where he was president of Sigma Chi fraternity and a member of the Scabbard & Blade and Omega Delta Kappa honorary societies. A World War II veteran, Taylor was a B-24 pilot, who first served as a gunnery instructor in Texas. He was stationed in California training to fly the B-29 bomber when the war ended. In 1943, he married Frances Aldrich Taylor. They were married for 57 years and had two children.
After the war, Taylor assumed his place on the family farm. With property in the delta and in the hills around Como, he grew cotton, wheat, corn, and soybeans while also managing cattle operation. He was named the Panola County Cattleman of the Year in 1969. He was a member of the National Cotton Council and the Delta Council. Taylor also served on the board of the State Bank of Como, was a Como City Alderman, President t and long-time member of the Rotary Club, President of the Como Consolidated Gin Company and a lifelong member of the Como United Methodist Church, where he served as President of the church’s administrative board.
Taylor was a man of many interests and an active outdoorsman. For many years, he flew his own plane, a Cessna 172, and was a competitive harness racer. An accomplished horseman, he often hosted local field trials and quail hunts as well as annual dove hunts.
Just last year, Taylor married Virginia (Virgie) Fulcher, a family event that drew relatives from all over the country. With Virgie, he continued the tradition of hosting daily, family luncheons where grandchildren were especially welcomed.
In addition to his wife, Virgie, Taylor is survived by two children, Virginia (Ginny) Taylor Drash and William Sledge Taylor III; six grandsons; two great-grandchildren; a step-daughter; four step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Como Methodist Church.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Frances Virginia Trotter Terrell, 86, formerly of Sardis, died Saturday, August 13, 2005, at Health South Rehab in Memphis, Tenn.

Terrell, born June 20, 1919, to the late William C. Trotter and the late Ella Dorr Trotter, was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Harrison Terrell.

DES MOINES, Iowa – William "Bill" Thompson, 73, formerly of Sardis, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at his residence.
Services were Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery. Henderson Highland Park Funeral Service had charge.
Thompson, born Jan. 4, 1932, to the late Jerry Thompson Sr. and the late Octavia Brooks Thompson, was a member of the Pleasant Green Baptist Church. After moving to Des Moines, Iowa, he joined the Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was employed at Central National Bank until obtaining work as an engineer at Roosevelt High School. He worked for the Des Moines public school system for 21 years, retiring in 1997.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Thompson; one brother, Jerry Thompson and one son, David Thompson.

NEW EGYPT, N.J.- Barbara Towles, 63, died Friday, December 23. 2005, at her residence. She was married to J. Harvey Towles, formerly of Batesville, for 40 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday at the Church of the Assumption with interment following at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, N.J. Tilghman Funeral Home had charge.
Towles, born to the late Connie and Edward McGuire, in Boston, Mass., was educated in Quincy, Mass. and graduated from Trenton State College in New Jersey. She served in the U.S. Air Force and most recently was an investigator with the N.J. Department of Labor. She was formerly the Republican Municipal Chairperson for Plumsted Township, and was currently the recording secretary for the Plumsted Township Republican Club. She was the founding president of the Friends of the Plumsted Township Library and a library board member for 21 years. She was a member of the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt and was and enthusiastic gardener and an avid race fan at the New Egypt Speedway.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Edward J. McGurie Jr.
Survivors, along with her husband, include one daughter, Kerrie Towles; one son, James Towles Jr. of North Hanover Township, N.J.; one sister, Ruth Gamble of Quincy, Mass. and several nieces and nephews.

Turner, born May 27, 1930, in Sardis to the late Lonnie Cole and the late Deola Draper, was a homemaker and a member of Bountiful Blessing Church of God in Christ in Memphis, Tenn.
Survivors include five daughters, Rosie Ballentine of St. Louis, Mo., Dorothy Harris and Marilyn Diaz, both of Sardis, Ola Marie Bowden and Tersa A. Diaz, both of Memphis, Tenn.; six sons, Bruce Turner of Sardis, Lonzie Turner of Memphis, Tenn., James W. Turner Jr., Lee G. Turner, Andrew Turner and Calvin Turner, all of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Campbell and Ida Mae Bishop, both of Sardis; one brother, Lonnie Cole Jr. of Sardis; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
TUTOR, Richard Glenn
SAN ANTONIO, Texas- SGM. Richard Glenn Tutor, USA (Ret), 62, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, following a long illness in San Antonio. Mr. Tutor was formerly of Panola County, and he was the brother of Pattie Sue Baker of Courtland.
Services were Thursday, Dec. 23, at Northern Hills United Methodist Church in San Antonio. Burial was in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Sunset Funeral Home had charge.
Tutor was born Aug. 7, 1942, to the late Ruby (Onsby) and Richard Gaines Tutor in Robbs, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Ann-Janelle Hamilton.
Other survivors include his wife Joan Tutor; one son Scott Tutor; brothers and sisters, Mary Ruth Pettit, Wayne Tutor and Ruby Jean Oswalt, all of Pontotoc, and Bobbie Nell Pettit of Lambert.

TURNER, Virginia Florence "Jean" Ashe
BATESVILLE- Virginia Florence "Jean" Ashe Turner, 84, died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at Lee Chapel the First Baptist Church. Dr. Robert Self and Rev. Gregg Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Middleton, Tenn. cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Alexander Turner Sr.
Survivors include one son, Lloyd Turner Jr. of Kennett, Mo.; one daughter, Regina Garner and son-in-law Paul M. Garner of Woodlands, Texas; one sister, Louise Bottoms of Canton, Ga. and two grandchildren, Paul Martin Garner II and Ashley Lane Garner.
