     COMO- L.C. Jackson, 54, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
     Services were Saturday at Paradise M.B. Church. Burial was in Paradise M.B. Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.
     Jackson was a church trustee and a member of the church male chorus at Paradise M.B. Church.
Survivors include his wife Lucille Reed Jackson; two daughters, Tarsha Jackson and Shanta Jackson, both of Senatobia; two sons, Leon Reed of Antioch, Tenn. and Edward Reed of Senatobia; four sisters, Wanda Jackson, Ivory Jackson, Barbara Hawkins and Narcis Walker, all of Senatobia; three brothers, Curtis Jackson of Greenville, Joe Willie Jackson and Johnny Ray Jackson, both of Senatobia; and seven grandchildren.

JACKSON, Mattie L.
     FALCON– Mattie L. Jackson, 79, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at G.L. Hospital in Greenwood of natural causes.
     Services were Sunday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Connor officiated. Burial was in Askew Grove Cemetery. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home had charge.
     Jackson, born June 16, 1925, to the late Hattie Bell Benson and the late Martin Young, was a member of Mt. Zion Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Monroe Jackson; one son Billy Ray Barlow; one brother J.C. Vaughn and sister Annie L. Simmons.
     Survivors include one brother Willie James Martin of Chicago, Ill. and a host of nieces and nephews.

JACO, Bobby Gene
     BATESVILLE–Bobby Gene Jaco, 74, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at his residence of heart failure.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Jaco, born March 19, 1931, in Pontotoc to the late John and Martha Jane Sanders Jaco, was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and a retired saw mill logger.
     He was preceded in death by his wife Edwena Whitman Jaco.
     Survivors include seven daughters, Joyce Jaco Gordon, Arlene Jaco Robertson, Rowena Jaco Robertson, Wanda Jaco Shields and Lila Jaco Darby, all of Batesville, Carlene Jaco Robertson of Sardis and Diane Jaco Wiginton of Jackson, Tenn.; five sons, Terry Jaco, Steve Jaco, David Jaco, Kelly Jaco and Allen Jaco, all of Batesville; two sisters, Martha Jane Jaco Vernon of Rex, Ga. and Ludell Jaco Lee El Dorado, Ark.; 34 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

JACO, James Edward Sr.
     CLARKSDALE – James Edward Jaco Sr., 62, died Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at Grenada Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Saturday at National Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Phillip Tidwell officiated. Burial was in Memorial Gardens. National Funeral Home had charge.
     Survivors include two sons, James Edward Jaco Jr. of Enid and William Scotty Jaco of Alaska; three sisters, Jeanette Carpenter of Clarksdale, Ruby Tidwell of Marks and Lottie Avant of Batesville; two brothers, William "Buck" Jaco of Lyon and Doyle Jaco of Clarksdale and three grandchildren.

JAMES, Ruby Viola Reed
     BATESVILLE – Ruby Viola Reed James, 93, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services are Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Concord M.B. Church on Curtis Road. Rev. John H. Snow of Memphis, Tenn. will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home has charge. Visitation is tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Family hour is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
     James, born Dec. 28, 1912, in Batesville to the late John Reed and Everlena Williams Reed, began her teaching career at the age of 18 and taught in the Pope and Concord communities. She was the owner-operator of James Laundromat and a homemaker. She was also a member of Concord M.B. Church where she served many years as the pianist.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, M.F. James, and one step-son, Bobby James.
Survivors include three sons, John James and Everette James, both of Batesville and Claude James of Detroit, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

JENKINS, Curtis
     BATESVILLE – Curtis Jenkins, 77, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at his residence.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Rayford Ables, Rev. Damon Plummer and Rev. Albert Clark will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Jenkins was born in Sledge Sept. 17, 1928 to the late Lee Jackson and Edith Bailey Jenkins. He was a Baptist and a retired foreman for Rainbow Bakery, presently Colonial Bakery of Aurora, Ill.
     Survivors include his wife, Mary McGregory Jenkins of Batesville; three sons, Ralph A. Jenkins of Scottsdale, Ariz., Milton L. Jenkins of Joliet, Ill. and Tony C. Jenkins of Yorkville, Ill.; four brothers, James E. Jenkins of Nesbit, Bobby R. Jenkins of Yorkville, Ill., Harold L. Jenkins of Holly Springs and Kenneth M. Jenkins of Clarksdale; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

JOHNSON, Angel Lee
     CHARLESTON –  Angel Lee Johnson, 84, died Saturday, May 21, 2005.
     Services are tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Delta Burial Corporation has charge.
Johnson was a homemaker.
     Survivors include four daughters, Lenora Johnson Carter, Flora Johnson Thomas, Dorothy Lee Watkins and Linda Lee Johnson, all of Charleston; five sons, James Earl Johnson, E.L. Johnson, Willie Johnson, Leon Johnson and Ray Johnson, all of Charleston; three sisters, Florence Johnson, Helen Johnson and Freddie Brock, all of Charleston; one brother Ray Fields Johnson of Charleston; and 40 grandchildren.

JOHNSON, Carrie Hudson
     BATESVILLE – Carrie Hudson Johnson, 71, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford.
     Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. J.N. Mobbley will officiate. Burial will be in West Camp Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Johnson, born March 25, 1935, to the late Eggie Hudson and the late Nina Bell Wilson, was a former cafeteria worker for South Panola Schools, a member of Mt. Zion Church and served on the Mother Board.
     Survivors include four sons, Earl Johnson of Florence, Ala., Jerry Johnson, Joe Alvin Johnson and Terry Johnson, all of Batesville; six daughters, Annie Margaret Johnson, Maxine Gates, Debbie Johnson, Barbara Rudd, Martha Cole and Della Johnson, all of Batesville; one sister Mattie Johnson of Batesville; 38 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

JOHNSON, Harry Russell Jr.
     MARKS –  Harry Russell Johnson Jr., 77, died Thursday, November 24, 2005, at his residence.
     Services were Sunday at West Marks Baptist Church. Rev. Tim Mims officiated. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Johnson, born Dec. 6, 1927, was employed with International Harvester Company and Marks Tractor Company. He was a veteran of the US Navy Seabees during WWII and a member of West Marks Baptist Church.
     Survivors include his wife Sadie Johnson of Marks; six daughters, Betty Ann McGee of Coldwater, Jeanne Faye Felts of Columbia, Elizabeth Avent of Lambert, Elaine Pipkin of Pope, LaWanda Johnson of Marks and Nelda Isham of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Peggy White of Marks and Wanda Moore of Columbus; one brother Don Johnson of Olive Branch; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

JOHNSON, Hershall A. "Al"
     BATESVILLE–Hershall A. "Al" Johnson, 92, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Tribble will officiate. Visitation will be noon until service time. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Johnson, born May 16, 1912, to the late Gus and Leavy Rikard Johnson, was a retired self-employed auto mechanic, a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, a member of Batesville Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.
     He is survived by his sister Odie Johnson Matthews of Sherwood, Ark.

JOHNSON, James "Shorty"
     BATESVILLE – James "Shorty" Johnson, 89, died Monday, December 12, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Paul Middleton officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Johnson, born March 1, 1916, to the late Jessie Johnson and the late Cora Honeyculp Johnson, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was an employee with Tennessee Gas Pipeline for over 25 years.
     Survivors include his wife, Virgie Corinne Campbell Johnson of Batesville; three daughters, Yvonne Crowder and Patsy Morrow, both of Batesville and Connie Haley of Courtland; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

JOHNSON, Julia Patton
     SARDIS–Julia Patton Johnson, 78, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were yesterday at Sardis Presbyterian Church. Rev. David Smith officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home had charge.
     Johnson, born June 1, 1926, in Sardis, to the late W.F. Patton and the late Lillian Jackson Patton, was a housewife and a member of Sardis Presbyterian Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Eugene Johnson Sr.
     Survivors include two daughters, Claire Wilkerson of Waynesville, N.C. and Marianne Echols of Huntsville, Ala.; one son Stanley E. Johnson Jr. of Venice, Fla.; one sister Claudia Pierie of Sardis; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

JOHNSON, L.P. "Bo"
     CRENSHAW – L.P. "Bo" Johnson, 75, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Saturday at St. Joseph M.B. Church in Crenshaw. Rev. O.R. Jackson officiated. Burial was in the church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     Johnson, born Sept. 24, 1929, to the late Bennie Johnson and the late Juliah Jones, was retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and a member of Coleman-Wright C.M.E. Church in St. Louis, Mo.
     Survivors include one son Larry P. Johnson of Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Clemmie Flowers of Crenshaw and Wretha Harris of Milwaukee, Wis.; a nephew who cared for him, James Means of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

JOHNSON, Mildred
     BATESVILLE- Mildred Johnson, 73, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at her residence of natural causes.
     Services were Saturday at Shiloh M.B. Church. Rev. Carl Brown officiated. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home had charge.
     Johnson, born Oct. 27, 1931, to the late Virgil Hall and the late Mattie Bell Vance Hall, was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Panola Chapter #2 and served as treasurer. She graduated from the public schools of Panola County and worked at Parker Automotive in Batesville where she retired.
     She was preceded in death by one sister Louise Hall Lloyd.
     Survivors include her husband Earl Johnson; her children, Ottowa E. Carter Jr. of Jackson and Lynard Carter of New Orleans, La.; her step-children, Mark Johnson and Lyndon Mosley, both of Batesville, Bruce Johnson of Enid, Jacqueline Robertson of Sardis and Ernest Mosely of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Irene Hearvery of Memphis, Tenn., Mattie Pearl Stamps of Batesville and Vertis Byrd of Picayune; three brothers, Willie James Hall of Chicago, Ill., Virgil Hall Jr. of Pope and Theaudry Hall of Batesville and two grandchildren.
    

JOHNSON, Opal Marie
     NESBIT – Opal Marie Johnson, 84, of Nesbit, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at Beverly Health Care Center in Southaven.
     Services were Friday at First Baptist Church in Horn Lake. Burial was in Forest Hill South Cemetery. Forest Hill South Funeral Home had charge.
     Johnson was retired from Gerber’s Department Stores and worked as a volunteer at Baptist Desoto Hospital for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Horn Lake and a past Matron of The Order of the Eastern Star, Horn Lake Chapter #356.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar and one son, Gene.
     Survivors include two sons, O. Marvin Johnson and Harry D. Johnson, both of Walls; one sister, Martha Phelps of Courtland; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Horn Lake or a charity of the donor’s choice.

JOHNSON, Walter Horace Sr.
     SARDIS – Walter Horace Johnson Sr., 58, died Sunday, August 28, 2005, at his residence.

     Johnson, born Dec. 14, 1946, in Lambert to the late Walter Leroy and Ruby Pauline Reed Johnson, was retired from Batesville Casket Company, a member of the Courtland Church of Christ and a Mason.
     Survivors include his wife, Susie Hailey Johnson of Sardis; two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta Johnson Wilkinson and Joe Wilkinson of Teasdale and Evelyn Johnson Lauderdale and Curtis Lauderdale of Courtland; one son, Walter Johnson Jr. of Tillatoba; one sister, Emma "Sissy" Sullivan of Batesville; one brother, William Johnson of Batesville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

     Lafayette – J.B. Joiner, 75, died Monday, September 26, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

     Joiner was a retired presser for Star Cleaners.
     Survivors include three daughters, Annette Joiner and Diane Joiner, both of Batesville and Ella Mae Heath of Oxford; four sons, J.D. Joiner and Larry Joiner, both of Oxford, Dewayne Joiner of Courtland and W.C. Joiner of Starkville; one sister, Bernice Paten of Oxford; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

JOINER, Jeannie Clara
     SARDIS- Jeannie Clara Joiner, 82, died Friday, December 23, 2005, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.
     Services were yesterday at Moore-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jim Cox officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
     Joiner, born June 18, 1923, to the late Joe Phillips and the late Molly Smith Phillips, was a homemaker.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, James Joiner.
Survivors include her son Jim Joiner and wife Martha of Murray, Ky.; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

JONES, Barbara Nell Province
     TILLATOBA – Barbara Nell Province Jones, 69, died Saturday, October 29, 2005, at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
     Graveside services were Tuesday at Lambert Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Landrum officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Jones, born March 25, 1936, in Crowder, was a Baptist.
     She was preceded in death by two sisters, Vi Long and Inez Warner; one son, James "Cricket" Austin; one brother, Henry Province and her parents, Lilly Bell Province and Ruben Lesley Province.
     Survivors include two sons, Ricky Austin of Nashville, Tenn. and Randy Bailey of Hernando; one sister, Velma Wortham of Tillatoba; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

JONES, Bertha Mae
     BATESVILLE – Bertha Mae Jones, 60, died Friday, November 25, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
     Services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Rev. W.L. Nash will officiate. Visitation is today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in New Bethlehem Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Jones, born January 16, 1945, to the late Doyle Willingham and the late Ardelia King, was a homemaker and a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church where she was also a choir member.
     Survivors include five daughters, Beverly Jones and Audra Jones, both of Batesville, Debra Jones of Memphis, Tenn., and Andrea Jones and LaDonna Jones, both of Walls; three sons, E.J. Jones Jr., Bobby Jones and Brandon Jones, all of Batesville; three sisters, Mazzie Bishop of Courtland, Shirley Shegog of Pope and Earlean Baker of Batesville; two brothers, Jalmers Willingham of Batesville and Robert Anderson Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

JONES, Butler D.
     COOPERS PLAINS, N.Y.- Butler D. Jones, 71, formerly of Sardis, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at his residence.
     Memorial services were Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home. Deacon Richard Golaszewski officiated. Burial was in Oldfield Cemetery in Ferenbaugh, N.Y. Phillips Funeral Home had charge.
     Jones was born Jan. 1, 1934, to the late Heiskel Butler and Ruby Blakely Jones in Sardis. He signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1953, and played with minor league organizations in Salisbury, N.C., Bluefield, W. Va., Waterloo, Iowa, and ended with the Corning Red Sox in 1960. He coached Little League and American Legion teams in the area. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for A & P Foods in Horseheads and retired from the Corning YMCA.
     He was preceded in death by his infant son, Harold, and one sister, Bobby Lea Long.
     Survivors include his wife Judy Jones of Coopers Plains, N.Y.; one son William "Will" Jones of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister Anne Jones of Sardis; and one grandson.

     BATESVILLE- Kyle Lynn Jones, 23, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at his residence.

     Survivors include his parents Danny Lynn and Jimmie Sue McCauley Jones, both of Sardis; one sister Crystal Shalon Mitchell of Amarillo, Texas; one brother Lance Aaron Jones of Amarillo, Texas and his grandparents, Helen Richardson Miller of Amarillo, Texas and George W. Miller of Eldorado, Okla.

JONES, Spencer Sr.
     SARDIS –  Spencer Jones Sr., 78, died Saturday, October 29, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Services were Wednesday, November 2, at St. Peter’s M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was in St. Peter’s M.B. Church cemetery. Eddie Robison and Son Funeral Home had charge.
     Jones, born Feb. 9, 1926, in Sardis, to the late Lewis and Elnora Jackson Jones, was a member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.
     In 1970 he graduated from the Blakely Night School in Sardis where he received his high school diploma. He was a farmer until 1975, when he became employed with the Corp of Engineers in Sardis where he retired in 1988.
     He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam Jones and Henry Jones; one sister Ivory Mae Jackson Taylor and one son Spencer Jones Jr.
     Survivors include his wife Agnes Joy Jones of Sardis; seven daughters, Linda Fondren, Dianne Wiley, Barbara Webb of Batesville, Carolyn Morgan of Water Valley, Belva Govan, Gail Jones and Erica Hortan, all of Sardis; three sons, Brian Jones, Melvin Jones and Marlon Jones, all of Sardis; 32 grandchildren; 16 great – grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

JONES, William H.
     COMO – William H. Jones, 74, died September 27, 2005, at Regional Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident.
     Services were yesterday at Goodrum Memorial Cemetery in Eudora. Burial was in Goodrum Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home of Hernando had charge.
     Jones was a 25-year veteran in the U.S. Army.
     Survivors include one daughter, Terri Smith of Mt. Pleasant; one son, David Jones of Nesbit; two sisters, Elenore Gaither of Moscow, Tenn. and Gene Vernon of Cordova, Tenn.; two brothers, Paul Jones of Geneva, Ala. and James Jones of Oakland; a grandson who cared for him, Brandon Finley of Como; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
