CAGLE, Elton Sr.
     COMO – Elton Cagle Sr., 88, died Sunday, October 2, 2005.
     Services were Tuesday at Moore-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Sardis. Rev. Jim Pinkerton officiated. Burial was in Harmontown Baptist Cemetery near Como. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
     Cagle, born Jan. 21, 1917, in Ripley to the late Oscar and Emma Lindsey Cagle, was a member of Harmontown Baptist Church and an Army Veteran of WWII. He was also a retired boiler maker for Henders Boiler and Tank.
     Survivors include his wife, Irene Cagle of Como; two daughters, Janet Meador of Hardy, Ark. and Bonnie Knight of Mathiston; one son Elton Cagle Jr. of Como; two sisters, Doris Sweat and Mozell Ruffner, both of Como; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

CAMPBELL, Robert Lee
     BATESVILLE–Robert Lee Campbell, 68, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart disease.
     Services are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in Ebenezer M.B. Church Cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home has charge.
     Campbell was a farmer.
     Survivors include four daughters, Jennifer Caldwell and Diane Smith, both of Como, Karen Milan of Chicago, Ill. and Bessie King of Senatobia; three sons, Robert Lee Milan of Como, Albert King of Sardis and Billy W. Porter of Tyro; one brother Roy Jackson of Senatobia; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

CAMPBELL, Rev. Tommie
     BATESVILLE – Rev. Tommie Campbell, 57, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at his residence.
     Services are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Batesville First Baptist Church. Rev. Zannie Leland will officiate. Burial will be in West Camp Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Campbell, born May 4, 1948, in Batesville to the late Grady Hughes and the late Zurlene Hardman, was retired from Tennessee Gas and the pastor of West Batesville Baptist Church where he was also a member.
     Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Campbell of Batesville; one son, Thomas Warren Campbell of Batesville; three daughters, Chandra C. Lantern, Brittany C. Edwards and Summer Campbell, all of Batesville; four sisters, Rose Green, Brenda Blalock, Barbara J. Wyatt and Denease Albert, all of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers, Robert Campbell, Leon Wyatt and Craig Towns, all of Chicago, Ill. and Peter Wyatt of Batesville and two grandchildren.

CANNON, Sylvia Sanders
     BATESVILLE –  Sylvia Sanders Cannon, 78, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at her residence.
     Services were Sunday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Rev. Russell Robertson officiated. Burial was in Pine Flat Cemetery in Oxford. Waller Funeral Home had charge.
     Cannon was a homemaker and a member of Pine Flat United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing Rook with several Rook clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey G. Cannon.
     Survivors include one daughter, Donna Acanfora of Valparaiso, Ill.; two sons, Larry G. Cannon of Charleston, Ill. and Dennis M. Cannon of Valparaiso, Ill.; one brother, Wayne Sanders of Water Valley and seven grandchildren.

CARPENTER, Irene Flemmons
     BATESVILLE–Irene Flemmons Carpenter, 88, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare of heart failure.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Cannon and Rev. Tim Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Carpenter, born Oct. 21, 1916, to the late Arthur and Minnie Lee Davis Flemmons Sr., was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Batesville.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Travis Carpenter and one sister Eva Stroupe.
     Survivors include three daughters, Geneva C. Meek of Batesville, Shirley C. Nail of Picayune and Earlene C. Ford of Hernando; two sons, James Riley Carpenter of Batesville and Edward Carpenter of English, Ind.; one sister Annie May Clay of Batesville; one brother A.B. Flemmons of Batesville; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

CARPENTER, Julia Lemaster Johnson
     BATESVILLE – Julia Lemaster Johnson Carpenter, 59, died Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis, Tenn.
     Services are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Paul Middleton and Rev. Rex Wilburn will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Courtland. Visitation is today from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Carpenter, born Aug. 13, 1946, to the late Clarence and Ruth Stafford Lemaster, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
     Survivors include her husband, James Riley Carpenter of Batesville; one daughter, Rhonda Jaudon Hopper of Batesville; one brother, John D. Lemaster of Robinsonville and two grandsons.

CARSON, Lillian Graham
     MARKS- Lillian Graham Carson, 18, died Saturday, December 10, 2005, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
     Services were Monday at the Marks Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Carson, born January 9, 1987, in Clarksdale, was a member of the Marks Presbyterian Church. She was a 2005 honors graduate of Delta Academy. She served as president of her senior class, editor of the Southern Accent, and was selected Miss Delta Academy 2005. She excelled in track and basketball where she was Most Valuable Player of the basketball team and an MPSA 2005 all-star. She was a freshman at The University of Mississippi where she was a pledge member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
     Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alexander Carson Jr.; one sister, Sarah Fowler Carson of Marks; one brother, Alexander Carson III of Marks; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Carson of Marks and Mrs. T. Lewis Fowler Jr. of Hattiesburg.
     She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Mr. T. Lewis Fowler Jr.

     BATESVILLE – Melvin Chambers, 50, died Monday, July 18, 2005.

     Chambers, born July 8, 1955, in Enid, to Leo Chambers and the late Georgia Ella Cosby Johnson, was a truck driver for T.G. Baker Trucking Company, a member of Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church and retired from the U.S. Army.

     Chapman, born July 4, 1915, in Bigelo, Ark. to the late Dan William and Stella Stufft Chapman, was a retired plant foreman for Tennessee Gas and a member of First United Methodist Church.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dale Marberry Chapman.
     Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Chapman Fink of Batesville; one son, Jackie Lee Chapman of Batesville and one granddaughter, Leigh Ann Chapman of Batesville.

CHAPMAN, James E.
     BATESVILLE – James E. Chapman, 78, died Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

     Chapman, born November 1, 1927, in Batesville to the late Benjamin F. Chapman and the late Annie Thomas, was a retired City of Batesville employee and a member of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church.
     Survivors include two sons, Leslie Chapman and Joe Wright, both of Batesville; one sister, Minnie L. Dummas of St. Louis, Mo. and two grandchildren.

CHATHAM, James Harley "Jim"
     BATESVILLE- James Harley "Jim" Chatham, 70, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

     Chatham, born December 15, 1924, in Chamblee, Ga. to the late Clyde D. Chatham and the late Lucy Frances Pierce Chatham, was a retired Lt. Colonel, serving in the Army during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, and a member of First Baptist Church.
     Survivors include two sons, Kurt Chatham of Hobesound, Fla. and David Chatham of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, George Chatham of Chattanooga, Tenn. and William Chatham of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Frances Payne of Tallassee, Ala., Helen Jackson of Chamblee, Ga., Betty Dillard of Columbus, Ga. and JoAnn Blackmon of Alta Monte Springs, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

     SOUTHAVEN –  Debbie Childers, 49, died Friday, November 11, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
     Graveside services were Monday at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven. Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven had charge.
     Childers was a cashier for Gold Strike Casino.
     Survivors include three daughters, Shannon Davis of Batesville, Jennifer Cupp and Kimberly Cupp, both of Southaven and her parents, Helen and Harold Hayes of Nesbit.

     SARDIS- Samuel Wydner Chrestman Sr., 93, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Beverly Health Care in Batesville.

CLARK, Betty Lee Bulimore
     HOLLY SPRINGS – Betty Lee Bulimore Clark, 63, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at her residence.

     Clark, born April 6, 1942, in Sunflower, to the late Richard Malone Bulimore and the late Annie Mathews Bulimore, was a member of Sara Baptist Church and a secretary over 14 years at Southern Holmes.
     She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard.
     Survivors include her husband William Lewis Clark Sr. of Holly Springs; one son, William Lewis Clark Jr. of Sardis; one daughter, Sandra Faye White of Batesville; two sisters, Mary Ruth Patton of Pensacola, Fla. and Ruby Clark of Arkabutla; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

     Clark, born July 13, 1909, in Attala County, was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Marks, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
     She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank M. Jones and Alvin Clark.
     Survivors include two daughters, Doris Jones Pittman and Laverne Jones Rodgers of Batesville; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

     POPE – Louise W. Clark, 83, died Monday, December 19, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

     Clark was a public worker and a member of Power House Church of God in Christ.

CLAYTON, Juanita E.
     BATESVILLE – Juanita E. Clayton, 61, died Thursday, September 29, 2005, at her residence.

     Clayton, born July 14, 1944, was a Baptist, a homemaker and a retired sales clerk.

CLENDINNING, Monte Lee McMahan
     BRANDON – Monte Lee McMahan Clendinning, 82, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at Rankin Medical Center from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Brandon, east campus, 309 S. College St. Burial will be in the Brandon Memorial Cemetery. Ott and Lee Funeral Home Inc. has charge.
     Clendinning, born Oct. 19, 1922, in Batesville to the late David and Beulah Holehan McMahan, graduated from Batesville High School, Blue Mountain College, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she earned a master’s degree in religious education. She was also a missionary, educator, author and conference leader.
     Survivors include her husband Dr. B.A. Pat Clendinning; two sons, David Clendinning of Tallahassee, Fla. and John Clendinning of Brandon; one sister J.B. Nettie Mai Lewis of Kosciusko and numerous nieces and nephews.

     HOLLY SPRINGS – Mary Imogene Cline, 81, formerly of Sardis, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at Trinity Mission Health Care in Holly Springs.

     Cline, born, August 1, 1924, in Brownsville, Tenn., to the late H.A. Hart and the late Sally Davis Hart, was a member of First Baptist Church in Sardis.
     Survivors include one daughter, Jeanine Cline Starbuck of Fresno, Calif.; one son, William H. Cline of Germantown, Tenn. and one brother, Jimmie A. Hart of Holly Springs.

COATS, Jack
     SARDIS – Jack Coats, 93, died Thursday, August 25, 2005, at his residence.
     Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kenneth Dyson officiated. Burial was in Forrest Hill Cemetery South in Memphis, Tenn. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Coats, born March 1, 1912, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to the late David and Roxie Miles Coats, was a retired horse trainer and a member of New Life Church.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Oma Lorene Hall Coats.
     Survivors include one daughter, Jane Coats Alred of Sardis; one sister, Pauline Coats Hooper of Mineral Wells, Texas; two grandchildren, Mark Alred and Shelley Alred Reed and three great-grandchildren, Jay Alred, Sadie Alred and Coats Alred.

COKER, Paul Edward
     BATESVILLE – Paul Edward Coker, 76, died Thursday, August 11, 2005, at North West Regional Center in Clarksdale.
     Graveside services were Sunday at Batesville-Magnolia Cemetery. Brother David Chrestman officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Coker, born June 5, 1929, in Lyon to the late Corvett Lafayette Coker and the late Daisy Kelson Coker, was a plant manager for Emhart Corp. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as captain during the Korean Conflict.
     Survivors include his wife, Helen Flemmons Coker of Clarksdale; three sons, Stephen Coker of LaGrange, Ga., Donald Coker of Piedmont, Ala. and David Coker of Clay Pool, Ariz.; two daughters, Cherie Hardy of Memphis, Tenn. and Dawn Roberson of Russville, Tenn.; one brother, James Coker of Pope; one sister, Maxine Clark of Batesville; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

COLE, Peggy Ann
     LAMBERT–Peggy Ann Cole, 45, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at her residence of heart failure.

     Cole, born Sept. 18, 1959, in Ruleville, was a member of North Batesville Baptist Church.

COLEMAN, Robert Dennis
     SARDIS- Robert Dennis Coleman, 50, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

     Coleman, born Feb. 5, 1955, to Robert Grafton Coleman and Doris Stoval Coleman of Sardis, was an Air Force Veteran and a warehouse worker for Harris Weko. He was also a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.
     Survivors along with his parents are two sisters, Janice Hampton of Richland, Wash. and Wanda Luke of Noxapater and one brother, Keith Coleman of Hernando.

COLLUMS, Theo
     SENATOBIA – Theo Collums, 90, died Sunday, August 14, 2005, at Baptist Hospital Desoto.

     Collums, born June 19, 1915, in Pototoc was a retired farmer and a member of Crenshaw Baptist Church.

     COURTLAND –  Edward T. "Tom" Cook, 75, died Thursday, November 3, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

     Cook, born in Tate County, January 22, 1930, to the late Edward Leonard and Lottie Holden Cook, was a Millwright, Local #1357 of Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Cypress Corner Baptist Church of Sarah.
     Survivors include his wife, Ruth Callens Cook of Courtland; two sons, Eddie T. Cook and Bruce S. Cook, both of Pope; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

COOPER, James "Buddy"
     BATESVILLE –  James "Buddy" Cooper, 83, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. J.N. Mobley will officiate. Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery in Courtland. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Cooper, born Oct. 16, 1921, in Sardis, to the late Tom M. Cooper Sr. and the late Rosa Rudd Cooper, was a retired laborer and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Batesville.
     Survivors include his step-mother Lucille Cooper of Batesville; two sisters, Earnestine C. McCain and Hattie Mae Fraizer, both of Batesville and one brother, Tom Cooper Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.

COSBY, Virginia
     POPE –  Virginia Cosby, 76, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
     Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. William Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Pope Chapel Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Cosby was a retired nurse aide and a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Pope.
     Survivors include two sons, Archie Cosby and Allbert Cosby, both of Pope; one daughter, Dora Dean Hamilton of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

COVINGTON, Gertrude Timmons
     GRENADA – Gertrude Timmons Covington, 91, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at Tallahatchie County Hospital in Charleston.
     Services were Sunday at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Clay Baker officiated. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Garner-Harper Funeral Home had charge.
     Covington, born Jan. 25, 1914, was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Oakland.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Clayton Covington.
     Survivors include one brother, Fred Timmons of Memphis, Tenn. and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

COWART, Carolyn Jackson
     OXFORD- Carolyn Jackson Cowart, 63, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.
     Services were Thursday at Como United Methodist Church. Rev. John Case and Rev. Martin Case officiated. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home had charge.
     Cowart, born Oct. 12, 1941, in Sardis, to the late Hoyte Jackson and the late Thelma Lowrie Jackson, was a member of University Methodist Church in Oxford.
     Survivors include her husband David Wallace Cowart of Oxford; three sons, David Guy Cowart of Rocklin, Calif., John Wallace Cowart of Memphis and Mark Jackson Cowart of Indianola; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
     Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
    

COX, Glennie
     MEMPHIS, TENN.–Glennie Cox, 83, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in Memphis.
     Services are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Olive Ray M.B. Church in Pope. Rev. L.C. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Olive Ray Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Cox, born April 3, 1921, in Courtland to the late Rev. Milton T. Jones and the late Martha Cox, was a homemaker, member of Olive Ray M.B. Church, church mother, deaconess, Sunday school teacher and adult Bible class teacher. She was also in the Order of the Eastern Star.
     Survivors include four daughters, Teresa Lucille Austin of Memphis, Tenn., Gracie Jordan of Chicago, Ill., Betty Johnson of Harvey, Ill. and Faye Austin Wallace of Castro Valley, Calif.; five sons, Micheal A. Austin of Batesville, Sherman Austin Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Jimmie L. Austin of Chicago, Ill., Milton T. Austin of Houston, Texas and Lucius Stanley Austin of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister Massie Austin of Harvey, Ill.; three step-daughters, Estelle Glasco of Sardis, Katherine Lloyd of Pope and Marie Daniels of Memphis, Tenn.; two step-sons, Selve "S.V." Cox of Courtland and James Eddie "Bill" Cox of Memphis, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

CRENSHAW, John Louis
     SARDIS– John Louis Crenshaw, 76, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
     Graveside services were Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery. Hal Johnson and William Coker officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.
     Crenshaw, born May 2, 1928, in Enid to the late Galloway Crenshaw and the late Thelma Bodrey Crenshaw, was a member of Sardis Church of Christ and a WWII Army veteran.
     Survivors include his wife Linda Dees Crenshaw of Sardis; two daughters, Jan Crenshaw of Memphis, Tenn. and Gail Taylor Demore of Senatobia; two sons, Jeff Crenshaw of Memphis, Tenn. and Steve Taylor of Senatobia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

CROCKER, Mary Ard
     MARKS – Mary Ard Crocker, 59, died Monday, July 11, 2005.
     Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forrest Memorial. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Crocker, born Dec. 12, 1945, to the late John William and Ollie Faye Cox Ard, was a homemaker.
     Survivors include one son, Michael William Allendale of Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters, Anglea Carol Baney Jonesboro, Ark., Sherry Lynn Huerth of San Jose, Calif. and Loretta Lynn Collinger of Charleston; three brothers, J.W. Ard of Batesville, Richard Leroy Ard of Jackson and Benjamin Franklin Ard of Kosciusko; six sisters, Brenda Kay Coomer of Pontotoc, Linda Williams of Pope, Hazel Pearl Winters and Shelby Jean Pitcock, both of Courtland, Ollie Fay Garner of Jackson and Virginia Louise Ridgeway; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

CROUCH, Paul Wayne
     CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Paul Wayne Crouch, 73, died June 28, 2005.
     Graveside services were Tuesday, July 5 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. Rose Mortuary of Desert Hot Springs had charge.
     Crouch, born May 12, 1932, in Pope to the late Ollis and Floy Crouch, was a heavy equipment operator and served in the U.S. Army from 1949-1955.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Homer Crouch, Charlie Crouch and Robert Crouch.
     Survivors include one daughter, Paula Lauerman of Washington; two sons, Perry Crouch of Texas and Aaron Crouch of Nevada; one brother, Albert Crouch of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Lucy Rogers of Horn Lake, Sara Tieszen of Temecula, Calif. and Virginia Swanson of Cathedral City, Calif.

CROUCH, Robert Eugene
     MEMPHIS –  Robert Eugene Crouch, 78, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at Calhoun County Hospital.
     Services were yesterday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Joey Hamilton, Kevin Purdon and Dr. Clarence Cooper officiated. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Crouch, born June 12, 1926, in Pope, to the late Olice Homer Crouch and the late Floy Edna Snider Crouch, was a retired maintenance  supervisor for Dupont Ind. He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, a deacon of the church and a Mason.
     Survivors include his wife, Bernice Anthony Crouch of Calhoun City; one son, Anthony Loren Crouch of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Janet Minyard of Batesville and Bonnie Morgan of Bruce; two brothers, Russell Albert Crouch of Memphis, Tenn. and Paul Wayne Crouch of California; three sisters, Lucy Belle Rogers of Memphis, Tenn., Virginia Swanson and Sarah Inez Tieszen, both of California; seven grandchildren and 15 grandchildren.

CROWELL, Dale William
     BATESVILLE- Dale William Crowell, 55, died Saturday, December 24, 2005, at East Baptist Memorial Hospital.
     Memorial services are today at noon at Calvary Baptist Church. Visitation is today at Calvary Baptist Church from 10 a.m.
to noon. Rev. Paul Middleton will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
     Crowell, born May 2, 1950, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Dale J. Crowell and the late Lois B. Johnstad, was the general manager of production and operation for ACI. He was a Navy CB two tours in Vietnam and worked for Gulf States in Starkville as the director of manufacturing for over 20 years. He loved fishing, painting, drawing and collecting rocks and loved the outdoors. He also loved his work and the employees and his three grandsons.
     Survivors include his wife, Renee Crowell of Batesville; his father, Dale Crowell of Columbus; two daughters, Angela Crowell of Batesville and Stephanie Guy of North Carolina; one brother, Brandon P. Michaels of Atlanta, Ga. and three grandchildren.

CROWELL, Julius Freeman
     COURTLAND- Julius Freeman Crowell, 75, died Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2005, from injuries received during an automobile accident.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Rev. Clay Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Courtland. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Crowell, born July 12, 1929, to the late Julius Freeman and the late Sarah Elizabeth Teer Crowell, was a cattleman and farmer. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Army.
     Survivors include one brother W. Benton Crowell of Courtland and a number of nieces and nephews.

CRUMP, Betty Jean Pope
     DETROIT, Mich.  –  Betty Jean Pope Crump, 70, formerly of Pope, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at her residence in Detroit.
     Services are tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. William Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Pope Chapel Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Crump, born Sept. 18, 1935, in Pope to the late Hilliard Pope and the late Margaret Wright Pope, was a homemaker.
     Survivors include four daughters, Linda Jean Hill, Brenda Washington and Tondelayo Washington, all of Detroit, and Regina Monique Crump of Seattle, Wash.; one son Samuel Washington of Detroit; three sisters, Georgella Pope Hall of Batesville, Birdia Lee Pope of Como and Christine Pope of Detroit; five brothers, James L. Pope, William Pope and Velester Pope, all of Pope, Jury Pope and Elbert Lee Pope, both of Detroit; 13 grandchildren and 12 great – grandchildren.

CRUMP, Freddie Marie Lyons
     SARDIS – Freddie Marie Lyons Crump, 89, died Saturday, October 29, 2005, at her residence.
     Services are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Walton Chapel C.M.E. Church in Sardis. Rev. Claudy James will officiate. Burial will be in Walton Chapel Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Crump, born Nov. 25, 1915, in Sardis to the late Willie Lyons Jr. and the late Cora Lavender Lyons, was a housewife and a member of Walton Chapel C.M.E. Church.
     Survivors include one son, Johnnie S. Lyons of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Ethel Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Johnnie Lyons of Como; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
