ALES, Maycie Jackson
SARDIS–Maycie Jackson Ales, 96, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at the Sardis Nursing Home.
Services are tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Ales, born May 1, 1908, to the late Robert E. and the late Mary Atkins Gordon, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sardis and a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jackson Lavender of Dallas, Texas and Rose Marie Jackson Day of Lakeland, Tenn.; two sons, George "Jack" Jackson III of Corpus Christi, Texas and Robert F. Jackson of Courtland; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
ALLEN, Reverend Doctor Joseph Andrew
CHICAGO, Ill. – Reverend Doctor Joseph Andrew Allen, 93, died Sunday, July 3, 2005.
Services were at Mt. Hermon M.B. Church in Chicago, Ill. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Leak and Sons Funeral Home had charge.
Allen, born Feb. 12, 1912, in Jonestown to the late Norward and Lula Allen, attended the Ideal Bible College and received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Union Baptist Seminary of Birmingham, Ala. The first church that he pastored was Morning Star M.B. Church in Chicago, Ill., and he later pastored Mt. Carmel M.B. Church in Detroit, Mich., Union Hill, St. John and Union Baptist Churches of Chicago, Ill. and finally Mt. Hermon M.B. Church where he pastored for 41 years before retiring in 2002. During his ministry he conducted revivals all over the country. He was an active pastor in the national, state and district conventions. He was first vice president moderator of the district, third vice president of the state and chairman of the evangelical board of the Northwood River District Association.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtis Hentz Allen of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Rev. Norwood A. Allen; one daughter, Rosetta Moses Hill; one step-daughter, Calbertha Waite; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
ALLRED, Travis William
SARDIS– Travis William Allred, 92, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Graceland Nursing Home in Oxford of heart failure.
Services were Wednesday at Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge. Rev. Roy Hartzell officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Allred, born Sept. 11, 1912, to the late Loush and Jennie Mae McCostlin, was a retired farmer and a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Nell Allred Potts of Batesville, Peggy Allred Barber of Senatobia, Patsy Allred Turner and Judy Allred Parker, both of Leland and Denise Allred Glover of Red Bay, Ala.; four sons, Caris Allred of Tupelo, Troy Allred of Sardis, Ronnie Allred of Jonesboro, Ark. and Mickey Allred of Southaven; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
ALRED, "Tommy" Reed
SARDIS – Thomas "Tommy" Reed Alred, 41, died Saturday, August 6, 2005, at his residence.
Services are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. E.K. Gordon and Rev. Richard Mills will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Alred, born May 20, 1964, to Elvin "Junior" Thomas and the late Ella Reed Moore Alred, was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Batesville and a truck driver for Dees Trucking Company of Enid.
Survivors, along with his father Elvin "Junior" Thomas, include his wife, Tammy Porter Alred of Sardis; three sons, Skylar Porter and Shayne Coats, both of Sardis and Robert Thomas Alred of Golden, Colo.; four sisters, Tammy Alred Ivy of Batesville, Tina Alred Redwine, Nancy Alred Pitcock and Kristen Alred, all of Pope; his step-mother, Sue Darby Alred of Pope and his grandfather, A.B. Darby of Batesville.
ANDERSON, James Silas "Si"
BATESVILLE – James Silas "Si" Anderson, 47, died Monday, June 6, 2005, at Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus.
Services were Wednesday at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Courtland. Rev. Rex Wilburn officiated. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery in Courtland. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Anderson, born Oct. 5, 1957, to the late Goffery Bryan and the late Selma Tims Anderson, was a construction worker for Hills Brothers Construction and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Bridgitt Anderson of Batesville and Heather Elizabeth Anderson of Cleveland and one brother, Wally Anderson of Courtland.

Fort Worth, Texas – Willie B. Anderson, 77, died Friday, November 18, 2005, at Parkview Care Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

Anderson, born July 14, 1928, to the late Robert Anderson and the late Ardelia King, was a retired construction heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Anderson, Shelia Anderson and Patricia Anderson, all of Batesville; four sons, Phillip Anderson and Douglas Anderson, both of Batesville, Michael Anderson of Southaven and Harold Anderson of Denton, Texas; four sisters, Mazzie Bishop of Courtland, Shirley Shegog of Pope, Bertha Jones and Earlean Baker, both of Batesville; two brothers, Jalmers Willingham of Batesville and Robert Anderson Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and a host of great – grandchildren.
ANDREWS, Charles Love
SARDIS–Charles Love Andrews, 69, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven.
Services were Friday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Charles Ogywn officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home had charge.
Andrews, born August 7, 1935, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Crudup Andrews and the late Juliet Hartz Andrews Redd, was a commercial fisherman and a member of Living Church of God.
Survivors include his wife Linda White Andrews of Sardis; one daughter Alyce Roder of Milwaukee, Wis.; three sons, Charles C. Andrews of Germantown, Tenn., Brett Andrews and Craig Andrews, both of Bartlett, Tenn. and five grandchildren.
ANTHONY, Hayden E.
POPE – Hayden E. Anthony, 84, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Pope. Rev. Roger Richards and Rev. Sam Godfrey will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Anthony, born Dec. 18, 1920, to the late Lois Harold and the late Elise Flowers Anthony, was a retired meat cutter at Shaw’s Meat Market in Grenada, was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and was a Shriner. He was also a Mason of the Panola Lodge #66 and served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two daughters, Agnes Anthony Allen and Debbi Anthony Allday, both of Pope; two sisters, Bernice Anthony Crouch of Bruce and Sarah Anthony Harris of Millington, Tenn.; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
ANTHONY, Thomas Bob "Bubba" III
BATESVILLE- Thomas Bob "Bubba" Anthony III, 28, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Anthony, born July 26, 1977, to Thomas Bob and Patricia Gail Golden Anthony Jr., was a self-employed construction worker.
Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife, Sunshine F. Anthony of Belvue, Mich.; two sons, Thomas Aaron Anthony and Tavin Thomas Anthony, both of Batesville; one step-son, Taner Frostto of Belvue, Mich. and his grandmother Helen Criddle.
ARMSTRONG, Larry
SARDIS – Larry Armstrong, 40, died Sunday, October 2, 2005, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Services are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. Visitation is today from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home has charge.
Armstrong, born July 18, 1965, to Earnest Lee Armstrong and Ora Pearl McNeal Armstrong in Sardis, was an award-winning welding student in local district, state and national competition for two years. He graduated from North Panola School in 1984. He worked for North Panola Hospital and Mapellit Brothers Meat Company of Memphis, Tenn. until their closing. He then moved to Kroger Distribution Center from Batesville to Memphis, Tenn. He was also an active member of Rose Chapel during his childhood and young adult life, where he was also a musician.
Survivors, along with his parents include, his wife, Deborah Wylodine Stokes Armstrong of Sardis; one daughter, Candace Rhonda Armstrong of Sardis; one son, Joshua Philip Willam Armstrong of Sardis; his grandmother Willie McNeal of Southaven; six sisters, Mary Bell and Sandra Brown, both of Memphis, Tenn., Lora Hardin and Tracy Roberts, both of Como, Sophia Polk of Oxford and Angela Leverson of Senatobia; nine brothers, James Armstrong of Como, George Armstrong of Oxford, Sidney Armstrong, Robert Armstrong, Louis Armstrong and Randy Armstrong, all of Como, Timothy Armstrong of Lawrence, Ga., Darryl Polk of Oxford and Todd Polk of Como, and a host of aunts, uncles, neices, nephews and friends.

Armstrong, born March 25, 1920, to Jeff and Annie Mae Armstrong, was a retired factory worker and City of Batesville employee. He was also a member of North Hopewell M.B. Church in Oxford.
Survivors include four daughters, Mattie Armstrong, Margaret Wright and Lula Houston, all of Batesville and Katherine Henderson of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Percy Armstrong of Batesville and Carl Armstrong of Milwaukee, Wis.; one sister, Margaret Ivy of Oxford; one son, McArthur Henderson of Batesville and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren.
ASKEW, Patricia A.
SLEDGE–Patricia A. Askew, 39, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at her mother’s residence.
Services are tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Askew Grove M.B. Church in Sarah. Burial will be in Longtown Memorial Garden. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.
Askew was a member of Askew Grove M.B. Church where she served on the pastor aid committee.

SARDIS- Tony C. "Ricky" Askew, 51, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at his residence of natural causes.
Services are today at noon at Percyville Church of Christ. Walter Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home has charge.
Askew, born May 30, 1953, in Sardis, to the late Albert Mitchell and Earnestine Askew, was a member of Percyville Church of Christ. He was a 1972 graduate of North Panola High School where he was a star athlete. After graduating high school he chose to work with his father as a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by his brother Joe M. Askew.
Survivors include five children, Derrick Sorrell of Memphis, Jonetta Morris and Marcus Walton, both of Pachsco, Calif., Monisha Fletcher of Batesville and Tonya Fletcher of Memphis and four grandchildren.

DARLING–Velma Ozell Bolden Austin, 69, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of cancer.
Services were Saturday at New Bethel M.B. Church. Burial was in Falcon Cemetery. Delta Burial Corporation had charge.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Austin Scott of Darling, Sharon Austin Holmes of Memphis, Tenn. and Lalita Austin Tennin of Sledge; one son Randy Austin of Batesville; three sisters, Odessa B. Presley of Sledge, Violet Marie Blackmon of St. Louis, Mo. and Rosie Standford of Gary, Ind.; one brother Jerry C. Bolden of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
AUSTIN, William "W.A."
William "W.A." Austin, 69, died Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at his residence.
Austin was born in Marks on October 25, 1935.
Survivors include a niece who cared for him, Earline Wood; three children, Tobie Austin, Justin Austin and John Austin; one brother, Stacy Austin of Columbus and numerous nieces and nephews.
His body was donated to the Medical Education and Research Institution of Memphis, Tenn.

BATESVILLE – Betty L. McKenzie Aven, 63, died Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at her residence.

Aven, born Feb. 22, 1942, in Tallahatchie County to the late Willie and Myrtle Scallions McKenzie, was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Troy Dean Aven of Batesville; one daughter, Teresa Aven Hubbard of Oxford; two sons, Rodger Aven of Batesville and Raymond Aven of Water Valley; one sister, Sue McKenzie Newman of Enid and six grandchildren.
AVEN, Patricia
BATESVILLE– Patricia Aven, 44, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
Services were Thursday at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada. Bro. Jimmy Martin and Bro. Larry Yarber officiated. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery. Garner-Harper Funeral Home had charge.
Aven, born to Billy and Patsy Simmons of Grenada, was the office manager at Senatobia Check Delay and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Stanley and Lucille Howell and Fred and Hattie Carter.
Survivors along with her parents include her husband Billy Aven of Batesville; one daughter Lauren H. Carr of Cordova, Tenn. and one son Carter Van Aven of Batesville.
Memorials may be made to Lebonheur Children’s Hospital.
