Palmer, Lincoln Stanley "Papa Joe"
Lincoln Stanley "Papa Joe" Palmer, 76, of Lambert, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Rev. Buster Thomas officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Palmer, born Jan. 30, 1928 in Anniston, Ala., was a member of Friendship East Baptist Church and a retired heavy equipment operator.

He was preceded in death by his wife Audie Vick Palmer and a daughter Nellie Jean Sergent.

Survivors include five daughters, Patricia Ann Childress of Lambert, Pam Nissen and Debra Eads, both of Crowder, Audie Marie Carlisle of Charleston and Carol Raiteri of Southaven; two sons, James Stanley Palmer of Walls and Jessie Winford Palmer of Charleston; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.


Parham, Charles
Greenwood, Miss.
     Charles Parham, 66, of Greenwood, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital of lung cancer.
     Services were Wednesday at North Greenwood Baptist Church. Burial was in North Cleveland Cemetery. Dr. Jim Phillips officiated. Wilson and Knight Funeral Home had charge.
     Parham attended Boyle and Cleveland High Schools, graduated from Delta State University with a bachelors degree in elementary education, a masters degree in education, administration and supervision and specialist degree from Ole Miss in supervision. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1962 where he was a Specialist 4. He began his career in the classroom in 1968 in Marietta, Ga. He then moved to Houston where he began his administrative career and then went to Oxford where he was an administrator for Bramlett and Oxford Elementary schools. In 1984 he he moved to Greenwood as principal of Bankston Elementary and in 1985 became principal of TY Fleming Elementary in Minter City. He retired in 1997. His dissatisfaction with retirement and his love for the students brought him back to the school system in Greenwood as a teacher at Greenwood High School High assistant principal from which he retired in 2003. He had also been a retail sales person for Kamlen’s in Cleveland, Riches in Atlanta, Ga. and Goldbergs Shoe Store in Greenwood. He was also a member of North Greenwood Baptist Church where he had been a former usher committee chairman.
     He was preceded in death by his father Edwin H. Parham.
Survivors include his wife Minnie Cooley Parham of Greenwood; his mother Lavonia Stewart Parham of Greenwood; one son Patrick Bishop Parham of Batesville and three grandchildren, Jessica Parham, Sam Parham and Katie Parham, all of Batesville.


Park, Clyde Stanley
Clyde Stanley Park, 57, of Sardis, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at his residence.

Park, born on Oct. 30, 1947 in Tupelo, requested his body be donated to the U.T. for research and no funeral services will be held.

Survivors include one brother Bobby Park; and two sisters, Judy McDaniel and Carol Russell.


Parker, Douglas Wayne
Douglas Wayne Parker, 60, of Marks, died Monday, August 30, 2004, at Quitman County Hospital.

Parker, born Dec. 13, 1943, was a Baptist and a shop manager for Quitman County Road Department.
Services were Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at West Marks Baptist Church. Burial was at Marks Cemetery. Rev. Tim Mims officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include one daughter Mandy Howe of Marks; two sons, Douglas Wayne Parker Jr. and James Thomas Parker, both of Batesville; one brother Cecil Parker Jr. of Marks; three sisters, Alice Campbell of Olive Branch, Janet Adams of Humboldt, Tenn. and Amy Elmore of Marks and three grandchildren.


Parker, James R.
James R. Parker, 79, of Danville, formerly of Courtland, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at the VA Illiana Health Care System.

Services are today at noon at the VA Protestant Chapel. Rev. John S. Herring Sr. will officiate. Burial is in Danville National Cemetery. Leek and Sons Funeral Home has charge.

Parker, born Aug. 27, 1925 in Batesville, to the late C.C. Parker and the late Clara L. Ford, was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, enjoyed music, arts and crafts and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his wife Pearlie Mae Williams and four sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy K. Hamilton of Indianapolis, Annette Davis of Champaign, Ill. and Elaine Blanding of Detroit, Mich.; five brothers, Samuel Herring of Brookhaven, Joe Herring of Indianapolis, Ind., Chester Herring of Danville, Jeffrey Parker of Courtland and Bobby Parker of Memphis, Tenn.; eight sisters, Claudia Ford, Juanita Stewart and Joyce Steele, all of Danville, Ill., Baris Morris of Batesville, Cecil Mae Strong and Rosa M. Grant, both of Memphis, Tenn., Mary Helen Parker of Centralia, Ill. and Verline Love of Nevada; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.


Parker, Marion Catherine
Marion Catherine Parker, 78, of Water Valley, died Monday, March 29, 2004.

Services were Wednesday at Seven Oakes Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Water Valley. Rev. Gerald Walker officiated. Seven Oakes Funeral Home had charge.

Parker, born Jan. 9, 1926, was a homemaker, a member of the Church of Christ in Water Valley and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include two sons, Richard S. Parker of Courtland and Thomas W. Parker of Paris, Tenn.; two daughters, Debbie Stark Ware and Carol Ann Cosby, both of Courtland; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


Parker, Pearlie Mae 
Memphis, Tenn.
Pearlie Mae Parker, 64, of Memphis (formerly of Courtland), died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Pillow St. off Parkway in Memphis with burial Tuesday, July 6, in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. N. J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home has charge.

She was a homemaker and a member of Salem Baptist Church in Courtland.

Survivors include her husband, James Roy Parker of Memphis; one daughter, Elaine Blanding of Detroit; three sisters, Edna Dorsey, Patricia Lathon and Ivory Oliver, all of Memphis; a brother, Herman Williams of Los Angeles, and two grandchildren.


Parnell, James Wallace
James Wallace Parnell, 94, of Sardis, died Friday, September 3, 2004, at Beverly Health Care in Southaven.

Parnell, born Nov. 11, 1909, to the late Marvin Ford Parnell and the late Pattie Floyd Parnell, was a member of Peach Creek Baptist Church and Peach Creek Men’s Bible Class. He was also a retired farmer and an ordained minister.

Services were Tuesday at Peach Creek Baptist Church. Burial was at Peach Creek Cemetery. Rev. Caples and Rev. Allen Parnell officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Bailey Parnell.

Survivors include four daughters, Martha Parnell Baker of Amory, Georgia Parnell Pearce of Magnolia, Ark., Sue Parnell Proctor of Southaven and Pattie Parnell Bailey of Charleston Heights, S.C.; one son, Rev. Allen Parnell of Southaven; one brother, Steve Parnell of Norwood, La.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Peach Creek Baptist Church, designated for Missions.


Parrish, Frank
Frank Parrish, 87 of Pontotoc, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Windham House Personal Care Home. Services were Saturday at Moore Funeral Home in Sardis. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery near Crenshaw. Rev. Jack Gilbert officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Parrish, born Nov. 26, 1916, to the late Lee Parrish and the late Mary Ellen Shuttles Parrish, was a retired truck driver, member of the American Legion of Crenshaw and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife Mildred Sexton Parrish of Pontotoc; one son Homer Parrish of Pontotoc; two grandchildren; and three grandchildren.


Patton, Thedrick "Teddy" Sr.
Courtland, MS

Thedrick "Teddy" Patton Sr., 33, of Courtland, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at Salem M.B. Church in Courtland. Burial will be in Salem Cemetry. Rev. Larry Itson will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Patton, born Nov. 15, 1970, to Williams Watters of Memphis and Eunice Patton Payne of Sardis, was a forklift operator for Dunlap & Kyle and a member of Salem M.B. Church.

Survivors include his wife Jennifer F. Patton of Courtland; parents, Eunice Paynes of Sardis and William Watters of Memphis; four daughters, Teylar Patton, Teddera Patton and McGheyla Patton, all of Courtland and Amber Patton of Batesville; two sons, Kedrick Patton and Thedrick Patton Jr., both of Batesville; one sister Carol Payne of Sardis; two brothers, Titus Watters and Kandon Watters, both of Memphis; and grandparents, Eva Hardy of Courtland and John and Annie Lee Watters of Batesville.


Payne, Cooper
Batesville, MS

Cooper Payne, 25, of Batesville, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at his residence of heart failure.

Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Payne, born July 3, 1978, to Jerry Cooper Payne Sr. of Batesville and Linda Pruitt of Coffeeville, was a self-employed service technician for Paynes Quality Machine Repair.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister Dina Pruitt of Calvary City, Ken..; his grandmother Frances D. Farmer of Centerville, Tenn.; and his fianc? Melissa Simmons of Pope.


Payne, Rhodie Mae
Rhodie Mae Payne, 60, of Lambert, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Baptist East in Memphis of heart failure.

Services are Saturday at 12 p.m. at The Real Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery. Delta Burial Corporation in Marks has charge.

Survivors include her husband W.C. Payne Sr. of Lambert; five daughters, Ruby Bright Oscar and Sharon Payne, both of Memphis, Latrisha Payne, Catrice Payne and Debra Payne, all of Lambert; five sons, Larry Harris and Lorenzo Payne, both of Memphis, W.C. Payne Jr., Nathan Payne and Kevin Payne, all of Lambert; four sisters, Laura Smith and Minnie White, both of Chicago, Ill., Gladys Walker Buck of Lambert and Henrine Hopson of Rockford, Ill.; one brother John Henry Simmons Sr. of Tutwiler; 23 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son Gerry Payne.


Pegues, Edward Lee
Edward Lee Pegues, 77, of Batesville, died Saturday Jan. 10, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services are Saturday Jan. 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial will in the church cemetery. Rev. Walter Newson will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Pegues, born June 9, 1926, to the late Eley Pegues and the late Lervida Knox, was a retired machine operator and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis.

Survivors include three sons, Terry Pegues of Batesville, Larry Pegues of Lynwood, Ga. and Daryl Pegues of Bowling Green, Ky.; one brother John Joiner of Grand Bay, Ala.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.


Pegues, Elmer Ealy
Elmer Ealy Pegues, 61, died Thursday, September 2, 2004.

Pegues, born April 3, 1943, to the late Joe Walter Pegues and Lela Mae Pegues, attended school in Panola County, confessed to Christ as his personal savior at an early age at the Mt. Gillion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. T.L. Tipton, later he joined the Bluff Springs M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor L.C. Smith. He remained a faithful member.

He was preceded in death by his father Joe Walter Pegues, three sisters, Debra M. Callicut, Angelose M. Ales and Virginia D. Joiner and one brother Walter Pegues Jr.

Survivors include his wife Flora Burgess; his mother Lela Mae Pegues of Batesville; five children, Gladys Taylor of Marietta, Ga., Elmer Anthony Pegues of Kennesaw, Ga., Florenta Fernandez (Lakesha) of Powder Springs, Ga., Curtis Pegues of Laplata, Maryland and Collins Jones of Batesville; four sisters, Betty Rudd, Sarah Lois Sheegog, Patricia Gross, all of Batesville and Willie Mae Smith of Bloomington, Ill.; 13 brothers, Clarence Pegues, John Ballentine of Memphis, Tenn., B.J. Pegues of East St. Louis, Ill., Leonard Pegues of Olive Branch, Jessie Pegues of Sardis, Jimmy Pegues of Senatobia, Gilibert Pegues, Silas Pegues, Ezell Pegues, Bobby Pegues, Ernest Pegues and Arthur Pegues, all of Batesville, and Wesley Pegues of Cleveland; 14 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.


Perkins, Maxine Evans

Maxine Evans Perkins, 75, of Marks, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Sardis of cancer.

Services were Tuesday at Marks United Methodist Church in Marks. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Rev. Charlie Simmons officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Perkins, born June 6, 1928, was a member of Marks United Methodist Church and a retired office manager for MP & L.

Survivors include her husband R.V. Perkins of Marks; one daughter Nancy Perkins Hamilton of Santa Barbara, Calif. and three granddaughters and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister Geraldine Burrus. All memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Paul Robert Perkins, 72, of Batesville, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Perkins, born Aug. 1, 1931, to Roy and Bertha Barnett Perkins, was a retired Military Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife Maxine Ainsworth Perkins of Batesville; five daughters, Rosanna Burns Moore of Southaven, Gwendolyn Burns McMahon of Slidell, La., Marilyn Burns Clark and Judith Burns Howard, both of Sardis and Janice Burns Tramel of Oakland; four sons, Michael Perkins of Louisville, Ky., Rex Perkins of Dawson Springs, Ky. and Clemmie Perkins and Trent Perkins, both of Madisonville, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 


Permenter, Helen Margaret
Helen Margaret Permenter, 78, of Batesville, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, in Midland, Texas.

Services were Friday at Blackjack Baptist Church. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park. Rev. Moses Atwood officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Permenter, born July 6, 1925, to the late John Allen and late Effie Mae Baker Neal Sr., was a retired beautician and owner of Wallace Bait Shop on Sardis Lake. She brought joy and peace to all who crossed her path.

Survivors include her son Wally Permenter of Midland, Texas; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Earl Permenter; two brothers, John Allen Neal Jr. and Marvin Donald Neal; and one sister Frances Marie Word.


Perry, Aaron
Aaron Perry, 37, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Sardis, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Methodist North of natural causes.

Services were Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.


Pierce, Robert "Clay"
Batesville, Miss.

Robert "Clay" Pierce, 35, of Batesville died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, at his residence.

Pierce, born Sept. 3, 1969, to Robert E. Pierce and the late Helen K. Holloway Pierce, was well known throughout the community for his skills at playing pool and won many tournaments. He was in ROTC in high school and he graduated from the Memphis Professional Bartending School.

Services were Sunday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Rev. Kevin Teague officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Earl Pierce.

Survivors include his father Robert Earl Pierce Sr. of Courtland; his wife Monica Lynn Charlton Pierce of Batesville; one son Dakota Clayton Pierce of Batesville; one daughter Nevada Kay Pierce of Batesville and three sisters, Leslie "Lonnie" Love of Batesville, Ruby Darleen Pierce Stetes of Syracuse, N.Y. and Vicki Pierce Millette of Crestview, Fla.


Pierce , Robert Earl Jr.

Robert Earl Pierce Jr., 39, of Memphis, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at Memphis Regional Medical Center of injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Services were Thursday at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Pierce Jr., born Dec. 18, 1964, was a building contractor and an avid Harley Davidson rider and a member of FUSAN Club of Memphis.

Survivors include his parents, Ruby Pierce Yarborough of Memphis and Robert Earl Pierce of Courtland; one son Brian Christopher Tharnish of Memphis; one half-brother Robert Clay Pierce of Batesville; two sisters Vicki Pierce Millette of Crestview, Fla. and Darleen Pierce Stettes of Syracuse, N.Y.; grandparents, Lucille Morgan of Southaven and Robert Kuehner of Memphis.


Pitcock, Alexis Nicole
Alexis Nicole Pitcock, 4, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Pitcock was born August 25, 2000, to Kevin E. and Laurie Darby Pitcock.

Services were Friday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Terry Tribble officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include her parents Kevin E. and Laurie Darby Pitcock of Courtland; two brothers, Steven Pitcock and Kevin Christopher "KC" Pitcock, both of Courtland; her grandparents, Edward and Helen Pitcock of Batesville and Regina Jaco of Batesville and her great-grandparents, Shelby Ard Pitcock of Courtland and Louise and Thomas Redwine of Batesville.


Porter, Luetta Fisher
Coldwater, Miss.
Luetta Fisher Porter, 99, of Coldwater, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Sunday at Edwards Chapel A.M.E. Church in Coldwater. Burial was at Edwards Chapel Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Porter was a retired cook of Dr. M.M. Powell Jr. She was on the stewardess board, president of the usher board, missionary society and head cook at Edwards Chapel.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally P. Wooten and Berlin P. Johnson, both of Coldwater; one son Herman Porter of Southfield, Mich.; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.


Potts, Charles "Bill"
Charles "Bill" Potts, 59, died Sunday, September 19, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Potts was a maintenance worker at several local manufacturers.

Services were Wednesday at Coleman Funeral Home. Burial was in Drivers’ Flat Cemetery in Calhoun County. Bro. Jimmy Sockwell and Bro. Gerald Shook officiated. Coleman Funeral Home had charge.

He was preceded in death by his father Arvie Potts.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie Potts of Oxford; two sons, Charlie Potts of Memphis, Tenn. and Ben Potts of Oxford; his mother Clyde Joblin Potts of Oxford; one sister Annie Sharp of Oxford and two brothers, James Potts of Calhoun County and Alvie Potts of Oxford.

Loyd Potts, 56, of Yalobusha, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004.

Potts, born Sept. 8, 1948, to the late Charlie Rufus Potts and the late Willie Vance Potts, was a member of O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church in Water Valley and employed with Skuna River Lumber as a Chipper Operator.

Services were Friday at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Burial was in Mt. Liberty Cemetery. Rev. William Milam and Lynn Potts officiated. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Joann Potts of Water Valley; one son Floyd Dewayne Potts of Water Valley and four brothers, Elvis Potts of Enid, Jimmey Dale Potts Sr. of Batesville, Bobby F. Potts and Charles Lynn Potts, both of Water Valley.


Poynor, Lizzie Marie Ellis
Lizzie Marie Ellis Poynor, 76, of Batesville, died Sunday Jan. 4, 2004, at Baptist Memorial of North Miss. in Oxford.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will be at Longcreek Cemetery in Courtland. Rev. Damon Plummer, Rev. Rayford Ables and Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Poynor, born Feb. 27, 1927, to the late John Wilbert and the late Annie Maude Buford Ellis, was a homemaker and a member of Hosanna Family Worship Center.

Survivors include a beloved companion Leon Braswell of Batesville; two daughters, Mary E. Collins of Oxford and Carolyn Sue Ray of Batesville; one son John W. Poynor Sr. of Batesville; two sisters, Mary Ellis Lott of Shreveport, La. and Betty Jane Miller of San Antonia, Texas; two brothers, C.B. Ellis of Yazoo City and Curtis Ellis of Batesville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.


Pratcher, W.C.
W.C. Pratcher, 62 of Sardis, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Pratcher was a member of Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Crenshaw.

Services were Saturday at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church. Burial was at Cistern Hill in Como. Rev. P. Jackson officiated. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.

Survivors include his wife Evene Pratcher of Sardis and one daughter Lois Linzy of Memphis, Tenn.


Price, Rosie L.
Rosie L. Price, 58, of Pope, formerly of Chicago, Ill., died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at John Stroger Hospital.

Funeral services were Jan. 24 in Chicago. Leak & Sons Funeral Chapel had charge of arrangements.

Price was born March 20, 194 in Estell to Topey Murphy.

Price attended grammar school in Mississippi. She later moved to Chicago, Ill. where she attended the John Marshall High School and furthered her education at Marion Business College. She attended Dawson Technical Academy License Practical Nurse Training, Kennedy King Jr. College and Chicago State University where she received her associate degree as a registered nurse. She worked at the Cook County Hospital in the trama unit and at Bethany Hospital as the charge nurse where she retired and moved to Pope. She then worked at Tri-Lakes Hospital in Batesville. She was a member of Abundant Life Assembly Church of Jesus Christ where she set up an academic scholarship fund for the youth of the church.

Survivors include her mother Topey Murphy; four children, Ladonna, Donald, Dianne and Larry Jr.; two cousins that she raised as her own daughters, Patricia Nash and Jackie Jenkins; nine grandchildren; and one sister Brenda Knight.


Pryor, William Everett Jr.
Water Valley, MS
William Everett Pryor Jr., 57, of Water Valley, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services are Friday at 2 p.m. at Latham Funeral Home Chapel in Water Valley. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Cemetery. Bro. James Hall will officiate. Latham Funeral Home has charge.

Pryor was a maintenance worker for the City of Oxford.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Faye Pryor of Water Valley; one daughter Melinda Gail Campbell of Water Valley; two sons, Shawn Everette Pryor of Water Valley and Timothy Starr Pryor of Texas; three sisters, Anna Rose Beeler of Water Valley, Brenda Irene Conner of Oxford and Sylvia Gertrude Hollingsworth of Como; two brothers, John Thomas Pryor of Water Valley and Brian Keith Pryor of Knoxville, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.

Pund, William Henry "Bill"
Batesville, Miss.
William Henry "Bill" Pund, 93, of Batesville, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2004, at his residence.

Pund, born Aug. 6, 1911, to the late Charles Antone and Susie Hoffman Pund, was a farmer and cattleman. He was a member of The Batesville Presbyterian Church, the Quitman County Farmer’s Association and the Panola County Cattleman’s Association.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Batesville -Magnolia Cemetery. Father Tom Hastings officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Joetta Smith and Jane Shook.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ferguson Pund of Batesville; one son William "Billy" Pund of Batesville; two sisters, Goldie Ekhoff of Long Beach, Calif. and Daisye Michaels of Gig Harbor, Wash.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Pugh, Jimmy Lee
Arlington, Tenn.

Jimmy Lee Pugh, 64, of Arlington, Tenn., died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Methodist Healthcare, North in Memphis, Tenn.

Memorial services will be at North Panola High School Gym in Sardis, Thursday Dec. 16, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Services will be at Gilfield Baptist Church, 8335 Pleasant Ridge Rd., in Arlington, Tenn. at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18. Burial will be in Noah Chapel Cemetery, 6791 Pleasant Ridge Rd. Jefferson Mortuary has charge.

Pugh, born Oct. 9, 1940, was a retired teacher and coach with the North Panola School District in Sardis. He was also a tailor and caterer. He was a member of Noah Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Millington, Tenn. where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent and Steward and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge Magnolia Chapter 58 in Mississippi.

Survivors include his wife Eula Mae Pugh of Arlington, Tenn.; four daughters, Cheryl Campbell of Beaumont, Texas, Charlotte Noel of Bartlett, Tenn., Deborah Winston and Kathy Jones, both of Arlington, Tenn.; one sister Teola Winston of Arlington, Tenn. and one brother Eugene Pugh of Memphis, Tenn.
