Briston R. Jackson, 16, of Olive Branch, died Wednesday, September 1, 2004.

Jackson was a member of the youth choir of St. Luke and a student at Olive Branch High School.

Services were Saturday at St. Luke Church in Olive Branch. Burial was at Memorial Park Southwood Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his parents Edward E. Jackson and Sandra Lynn Jackson; one sister Kristin Lynn Jackson of Olive Branch; his grandparents Linda Powell and Clayton Ware and Dan Burdette and great-grandmothers, Lovelle Webb and Maggieleon Gates.


Jackson, Clarence Segrest  
Clarence Segrest Jackson, 75, of Sardis, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Jackson, born Dec. 24, 1928 in Sardis, to the late Glover Jackson and Katherine J. Jackson, was a World War II veteran, a member of the First Baptist Church in Sardis and a retired U.S. Postal Clerk.

Services were Friday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Jerry Sanford officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.


Jackson, Cynthia Marie Armstrong
Cynthia Marie Armstrong Jackson, 45, of Batesville, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Goodhope Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Gerald H. Walker officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Jackson was born Feb. 17, 1959, in Batesville to the late James Rice and Jerelene Ferrell Armstrong, of Batesville and was a homemaker.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband Earl Lynn Jackson of Grenada; one son William Craig Dillon of Batesville; two sisters, Jerrie Armstrong Roberts of Amory and Melanie Armstrong McDonald of Jackson; one brother James R. Armstrong Jr. of Courtland.


Jackson, Rev. Robert
Tupelo, Miss.
Rev. Robert Jackson, 76, of Tupelo, died Thursday, August 12, 2004, at Winston Medical Center.

Services were Saturday at Porter Funeral Home. Graveside services were at Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Paul Blanchard and Rev. Wayne Sanders officiated. Porter Funeral Home had charge.

Jackson, born Oct. 25, 1927, was a retired Baptist minister and served churches in Louisiana and Mississippi for 54 years. He was a member of Singleton Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son Brent Jackson.

Survivors include his wife Sybil Davis Jackson of Louisville; one daughter Beverly Combs of Louisville; one son Bruce Jackson of Newton; three sisters, Rebecca Carter of Knoxville, Tenn., Margaret Snipes, Mountain View, Ark. and Prudy Parrish of Memphis, Tenn.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude’s Hospital.


Jamison, James "Woogie"
James "Woogie" Jamison, 78, of Marks, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greater Mt. Zion COGIC Church in Marks. Burial will be in Belmount Cemetery in Marks. Sam Wiggins will officiate. M.J. Edwards Funeral Home has charge.

Jamison, born Jan. 13, 1926, to the late Tom and the late Alma Bedford Jamison Sr., was a retired mechanic/truck driver for Bel-Mar Ford Tractor Company.

Survivors include his wife Annie "Mutt" Jamison of Marks; twelve children, Arthur J. Lofton of Chicago, Ill., James Louis Jamison of Joliet, Ill., Brenda Freeman and Dana Cooper, both of Palmetto, Fla., Ruth Jean McKinney and Larry Jamison, both of Memphis, Roberta Jamison, Dorothy Jamison, Andrew Ray Jamison and Timmy L. Jamison, all of Marks; one sister Lucy Brown of Marks; one brother R.B. Jamison of Blytheville, Ark.; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Willie Earl Jamison Sr. and six brothers and sisters.

     Derrick Andrea Jarriett, 25, of Lambert, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
     Services were Wednesday at Quitman County Elementary School. Burial was in Burriel Cemetery. Delta Burial Corporation had charge.
     Jarriett, born Jan. 24, 1979, to Earnestine Gorden Jarriett and Andrew Jarriett, Jr., was a frozen food clerk and graduated from Madison S. Palmer High School.
     Survivors along with his parents include two sisters, Lakeisha Jarriett and Angela Jarriett, both of Lambert and his grandparents, Minnie Gorden and Ora Lee Jarriett, both of Lambert.


Jefferson, Freddie Donell
Freddie Donell Jefferson, 27, of Sardis, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in Mt. Level Cemetery in Como. Rev. H.P. Washington will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Jefferson, born Aug. 27, 1976, to the late Nathaniel Wright and Bonnie Jefferson Wright, was a hose operator for Dana Corporation and a member of Lakeview M.B. Church in Askew.

Survivors include his wife Tamika Jefferson of Sardis; one son Fredrick Jefferson of Sardis; his mother Bonnie Wright of Crenshaw; one sister Janet Wright of Crenshaw; and grandparents, Jimmie and Mary Harris of Crenshaw.

Ira Lee Jefferson, 53, of Curtis, died Friday, August 20, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of natural causes.

Jefferson, born Dec. 28, 1950, was a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church.

Services were Saturday at Mt. Olive M.B. Church. Burial was at Macedonia Cemetery. Rev. Walter Nash officiated. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.

Survivors include his wife Bessie Jefferson of Sardis; two sons, Ira Lee Jefferson Jr. and Kenneth Jefferson; one daughter Jlish Lasha Jefferson; four brothers, Carl Jefferson, Ray Jefferson, Willie Earl Jefferson and Barry Jefferson; five sisters, Mary Harris, Bertha Baker, Dorothy Jefferson, Annette Robinson and Ester Sather and six grandchildren.


Jenkins, Georgia Fay
Georgia Fay Jenkins, 79, of Oxford, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Jenkins was a homemaker.

Services were Sunday at Latham Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Latham Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include her husband Leonard William Jenkins; five daughters, Shirley Varner and Peggy Shepherd, both of Oxford, Barbara Bowa, Pat Jenkins and Brenda Smith, all of Water Valley; four sons, James Jenkins, Larry Jenkins and Jerry Jenkins, all of Batesville and Jeff Jenkins of Oxford; one sister Floye Shields of Bruce; one brother William Davis of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

J.C. Jenkins Jr., 66, of Crenshaw,died Monday, March 22, 2004, at his residence of cancer.

Serviceswere Wednesday at Sledge Baptist Church. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery.

Rev. John Parker officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Jenkins, born Oct. 11, 1937, was a retired farmer and a member of Sledge Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Jenkins of Crenshaw; three daughters, Betty Howell of Enid, Brenda Vaughn of Longtown and Barbara Jones of Crenshaw; one son Brian Jenkins of Crenshaw; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.


Johns, Paula Kay
Paula Kay Johns, 27, of Batesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at her home in Rockford, Ill. of heart failure.

Services were Friday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was at Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Johns was born Dec. 15, 1976, to Johnny R. Johns of Clarksdale and Linda Hobbs Johns, both of Rockford, Ill.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her stepmother Debbie Black Johns of Lambert; one sister Angela Johns of Rockford, Ill. and a half-sister Glenda Hobbs Charlton of Jacksonville, N.C.; and a half-brother Phillip Ellis of Batesville.

Charles L. Johnson, 78, of Batesville, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Allenbrook Health Care in Memphis.

Services are today at 4 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery. Rev. Hal Johnson will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Johnson, born Sept. 14, 1925, to the late Lige and Jenny May Johnson, was a retired farmer and ginner.

Survivors include his daughter Mary Johnson Ray of Batesville; one son Carl Johnson of Batesville; one sister Minnie Bell Johnson Downs of Batesville; five grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.

Earnest Johnson Sr., 80, of Batesville, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Friday at Macedonia M.B. Church. Burial was in West Camp Cemetery. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge.

Johnson, born July 28, 1923, to the late Alma Love Johnson and the late Frank Johnson Sr., was a farmer and a member of Macedonia M.B. Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie H. Johnson of Batesville; three sons, James R. Johnson and Earnest C. Johnson Sr., both of Batesville and Eugene Clark of Portland, Ore.; one daughter Dorothy Frazier of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Tillman "T.J." Johnson of New Orleans, La. and George Johnson of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Jessie Johnson, 95, of Como, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Johnson, born April 8, 1909, to the late Richard Johnson and the late Rosa Lee Meeks Johnson, was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Services were Sunday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Como. Rev. Renaldo Sandridge officiated. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Jessie Mae Westbrook of Omaha, Neb. and Sarah Nell Timberson of
Detroit, Mich.; seven sons, David Johnson, Emond E. Johnson and McArthur Johnson all of Omaha, Neb., Willie R. Johnson and James Johnson, both of Memphis, Tenn., Calvin Gene Johnson of Como and Herbert V. Johnson of Houston, Texas; one sister Sammie Lee Daniels of Memphis, Tenn.; 30 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

John Edward "Johnny" Johnson Jr., 69, of Batesville, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Kirk Germany, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Nesbit, officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Johnson, born August 6, 1934, to the late John Edward and the late Grace Garrett Johnson Sr., was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville.

Survivors include his wife Bobbie Jean Griffis Johnson of Batesville; two daughters, Cindi Johnson Wilson of Batesville and Vicki Johnson Mansfield of Dallas, Texas; one step-daughter Lynn Culbreath Schell of Harrisburg, Pa.; one son James F. "Jay" Johnson of Nesbit; two brothers, Garrett Johnson and Jack "Rip" Johnson, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Richard Edward "Ricky" Johnson, 39, of Batesville, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville of heart failure.

Services were Monday at First Baptist Church in Batesville. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Dr. Robert Self officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Johnson, born June 10, 1964, to John Edward and Bobbie Jean Griffis Johnson, was a narcotics agent for Panola County Sheriff’s Department and a U.S. Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife Adrianne Phillips Johnson of Batesville; two sons, Richard E. Johnson II and Michael B. Johnson, both of Batesville; his parents, John Edward and Bobbie Griffis Johnson, both of Batesville; three sisters, Lynn Johnson Schell of Harrisburg, Pa., Cyndi Johnson of Walls and Vicki Johnson Manfield of Arlington, Texas; one brother Jay Johnson of Hernando; and grandmother Gladys Griffis of Batesville.

Robbie Bea Johnson, 92, of Batesville, died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Services were Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Batesville-Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. David Snellgrove officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Johnson, born Nov. 7, 1911, to the late John and the late Carrie Ayers Lemaster, was a supervisor for over 27 years at the Batesville Company.

Survivors include one son, Clayton "Pee Wee" Johnson of Batesville; two daughters, Joan Walker of Grenada and Linda Combs of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister Louise Smith of Batesville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren.

Willie Frank Johnson, 43, formerly of Batesville, died Saturday Dec. 27, 2003.

Services were at Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home in Carterville, Ga. The body was cremated. Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home had charge.

Johnson, born on April 26, 1960, to Carrie Johnson and the late Frank Johnson Jr., graduated from South Panola High School. He later moved to Carterville, Ga. where he was employed at the Atlanta Journal and Constitution and Sheet Metal Component.

Survivors include his wife Paula Johnson; two sons, Austin Ryan Johnson and Ethan Frank Johnson; his mother Carrie Hudson Johnson; six sisters, Annie Margaret, Maxine Gates (Bobby), Debbie Johnson, Barbara Rudd, Martha Cole (James) and Della Johnson, all of Batesville; four brothers, Earl Johnson (Willie Jean) of Florence, Ala., Jerry Johnson (Rosemary), Terry Johnson and Joe Johnson (Paulette), all of Batesville; three sister-in-laws, Petula Armstrong (James) of Batesville, Petra Johnson (Ricky) and Felyca Flowers, all of Memphis, Tenn.; four brother-in-laws, Ryan Flowers, Roderick Flowers, Paul Flowers Jr., all of Memphis, and Ramsey Flowers (Leavern) of Batesville. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Wrether Johnson, 90, of Batesville, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare and Rehab Center in Batesville.

Services were Monday at Popular Spring M.B. Church in Enid. Burial was in Batesville Cemetery. Rev. Coya Blackburn officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge.

Johnson, born April 7, 1913, to the late Anderson Berry and late Frances Berry, was a retired presser and a member of Popular Spring M.B. Church in Enid.

Survivors include one daughter Cornelious Smith of Batesville; one son James Booker of Marks; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and great great great-grandchildren.

Boyd Lee Joiner, 62, of Batesville, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services were Saturday at Mt. Hope M.B. Church in Taylor. Burial was at East Batesville Cemetery. Rev. Sammie Woodall officiated. Eddie Robinson & Son Funeral Home had charge.
Joiner was born Nov. 24, 1941.

Survivors include his wife Clara Joiner; one daughter Gloria Woodall; two sons, Robert Woodall and Adhan Woodall; two brothers, Robert Joiner of St. Louis, Mo. and Emphro Joiner of Memphis; one sister Shirley Blair of Memphis; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Johnnie Mae Joiner, 70, of Batesville, died Monday, March 8, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville of natural causes.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Sardis. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. W.L. Nash will officiate. Henderson Funeral Home in Sardis has charge.

Joiner, born Oct. 15, 1933, to the late Willie Mae Bibbs and the late Howard Baker, was a housewife and a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville.

Survivors include four daughters, Virgie Cole, Ada Draper, Dorothy Joiner and Peggie Joiner; one son Willie Joiner; two sisters, Lillie Pinkins and Annie B. Johnson; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

James William Joiner, 84, of Sardis, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.
 
Services were Tuesday at Sardis United Methodist Church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery of Sardis. Rev. Hal Johnson officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Joiner, born Feb. 3, 1920, to William Thomas Joiner and Maggie Howie Joiner was a butcher for a grocery store and a Mason.

Survivors include his wife Jeannie Phillips Joiner of Sardis; one son Jim Joiner of Murray, Ky; one sister Bertha Foster of Lexington, S.C.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Sardis, Miss.
David Raymond Jones, 79, of Sardis died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center in Senatobia.

Jones, born Dec. 28, 1924, to the late James Arthur and Mullie Pittman Jones, was an Army veteran of WWII, a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and a retired supervisor with OMC.

Visitation is today from 12 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Sellers Jones of Sardis; one daughter, Barbara Ann Jones Allen of Senatobia; one sister, Agnes Jones Tabor of Abbeville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Jacqueline Paulette Jones, 28, of Crowder, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
     Services were Wednesday at Quitman County Elementary School. Burial was in Burriel Cemetery. Rev. Reginald Griffin officiated. Delta Burial Corporation had charge.
     Jones, born Jan. 17, 1976, to Robert Jones and Willie Dean Jones of Crowder, graduated from Quitman County High School.
     Survivors along with her parents include one son Zachery Jones of Crowder; three daughters, Ashley Jones, Monica Jones and Jasmine Jones, all of Crowder; her grandparents, Willie Eva Twilley and Ruthie Lee Cook, both of Lambert; two sisters, Zandra Cage and George Ann Jones, both of Crowder and two brothers, Cederic Jones and Fredrick Jones, both of Crowder.

Lois Inez Wood Jones, 82, of Marks, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Vaiden Community Living Center of heart failure.

Services were Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Gardens in Batesville. Rev. Harold Smith officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Jones, born Nov. 23, 1921, was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include her husband Ellis M. Jones of Marks; five sons, Lewis Jones of Tupelo, Maurice Jones of Raymond, Tom Jones of Byram, David Jones of Springdale, Ark. and Don Jones of Oakland; four daughters, Shirley Bowles of Greenwood, Carolyn Miller of Carrollton, Patricia Bridges of Crowder and Rita Smith of Sturgis; three sisters, Mattie Legge of Batesville, Annie Mae Jones of Sardis and Mary Cook of Blue Mountain; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchild; and one great great-grandchild.

Otho Robert Jones, 20, of Memphis, Tenn., died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at St. Jude Children Research Hospital.

Jones, born Nov. 12, 1984, to Otho Hatchett and Shirley Jones Hatchett, was a member of Real Faith Christian Church in Clarksdale.

Services were Tuessay, Nov. 23, at Real Faith Christian Church in Clarksdale. Rev. Gene Lawson officiated. Burial was in Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Survivors include his parents Otho and Sherry Hatchett of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Carolyn Hatchett of Memphis, Tenn. and Shiree Hatchett of Clarksdale, and one brother Gregory C. Hatchett of Memphis, Tenn.


Jones, Saidee Sue

Saidee Sue Jones, 88, of Clinton, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the Lakewood Nursing Home in Jackson. Visitation was Wednesday at Lakewood Funeral Home. Graveside services were Thursday at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville.

Mrs. Jones was born in Hampton in 1915. Her parents were the late Sydney Jones Sr. and Lizzie Anderson Jones. She graduated from Delta State University with a degree in elementary education.

Mrs. Jones was a longtime former resident of Batesville and taught in the Batesville Elementary Schools for over 32 years. While living in Batesville she was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church and was a former member of the Stitchers Club, a group of ladies who met once a month for over 50 years. She loved flowers and working in her garden.

In 1993, Mrs. Jones moved to Clinton. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she enjoyed participating in the Joy Makers Club.

She leaves behind her loving family, one son Thomas L. Jones Jr., D.D.S. and his wife Laura of Ridgeland; one brother Henry J. Jones of Florence, Ala.; two sisters, Laura Wilson of Vicksburg and Jeane Degges of Baton Rouge, La.; and two precious grandchildren, Sydney L. Jones and Laura Allyson Jones.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joy Makers Club of First Baptist Church in Clinton. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Len Jones Sr.

Spencer "Goat Man" Jones Jr., 52, of Sardis, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in Morton of natural causes.
Jones was a painter.

Services were Wednesday at St. Peters M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was in St. Peters Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Odell Draper Jr. officiated. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.

Survivors include his parents Spencer and Agnes Jones; one daughter Sharon Hall; two sons, Dewan Jones of Kanka Kee, Ill. and Chris Lee Jones of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Melvin Jones, Brian Jones and Marlon Jones, all of Sardis and seven sisters, Linda Fondren, Diane Wiley, Barbara Webb, Carolyn Morgan, Gail Buford, Erica Horton and Belna Govan, all of Sardis.
