Hamilton, Lenora Jefferson
Lenora Jefferson Hamilton, 53, of Batesville, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven.

Services are Monday, March 1 at 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial will be in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Zannie Leland will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Hamilton, born May 2, 1950, to the late Sammie Lee and late Lola Jefferson, was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Batesville.

Survivors include her husband Segrest Hamilton of Batesville; one son Gregory Hamilton of Batesville; five daughters, Pamela Leland and Barbara Hamilton, both of Batesville, Vera Jefferson and Pearlie Hamilton, both of Sardis and Pamela Hamilton of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Leona Jefferson of Oxford, Lee Anna Wright of Batesville and Cora Mae Davis of Memphis; three brothers Sammie Lee Jefferson Jr. and Jessie Jefferson, both of Batesville, and Wesley Jefferson of Como; and 12 grandchildren.


Handwerker, Iola Eugenia "Bo"
Iola Eugenia "Bo" Handwerker, 84, of Sardis, died Thursday, July 2, 2004, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services were Friday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Sardis. Burial was in Pleasant Grove U.M.C. Cemetery. Rev. John Parker officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Handwerker was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Pleasant Grove to the late Claude and the late Iola Freeman Jennings. She was a housewife and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter Sally Shideler of Sardis; one son Henry "Buzz" Handwerker of Carrollton; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Strobel Handwerker.


Harmon, Jessie C.
Oxford, Miss.

Jessie C. Harmon, 80, of Oxford, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Hartman was self employed.

Services were Saturday at Philadelphia M.B. Church in Oxford. Burial was in Philadelphia Cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include three daughters, Bernice Harmon of Atlanta, Ga., Pattie Lou Gates of Racine, Wis. and Mae Willie Luster of Southaven; four sons, Calvin Harmon of Oxford, Robert Lee Harmon of Como, Lewis Edward Harmon of Batesville and Calvin Dewayne Harmon of Holly Springs; three sisters, Mary Harmon and Ruby Owens, both of Oxford and Virginia Woodard of Memphis, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.


Harris, Thomas Jamaal
Thomas Jamaal Harris, 21, of Memphis, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Services are Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Norris Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis. Burial will be in West Camp Cemetery in Batesville. Dr. Ricky Dugger will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Harris, born Jan. 19, 1983, to Thomas Harris and Martha Spears, was a cook for Taco Bell and a member of Norris Ave. Baptist Church in Memphis.

Survivors include his parents, Martha Spears and Thomas Harris of Memphis; and two sisters, Brenda Cofield and Gwendlyn Lane, both of Atlanta, Ga.


Harris, Napolean "Ham"
Batesville, MS

Napolean "Ham" Harris, 72, of Batesville, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services were Saturday at New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. W. L. Nash officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge.

Harris, born April 3, 1932, to Nathan and Lillie Bibbs Harris, was a machine operator for Thermos Co. and a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church.

Survivors include his wife Olivia Harris of Batesville; two daughters, Sarah Houston and Alisha Cox, both of Batesville; five sons, Napolean Harris Jr., Craig Harris and Willie C. Harris, all of Batesville, Larry Harris and Eddie Harris, both of Memphis, one brother Ashley "Happy" Henderson of Marlon, Mo.; two sisters, Ollie Mae Reed of Batesville and Inez Harris of Jackson; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.


Harrison, Ella Mae
Ella Mae Harrison, 87, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.

Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Courtland. Burial will be at Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Presiding Elder Sarah Martin will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Harrison, born June 16, 1916, to the late Tom Martin Cooper and the late Lodie Miles, was a housewife and a member of Shiloh C.M.E. Church in Sardis.

Survivors include three sons, Clark Harrison of Batesville, James C. Harrison and Joe Willie Harrison, both of Memphis; three daughters, Tex Ada Fentress, Bertha Lester and Dorothy Perry, all of Memphis; two brothers, James T. Cooper of Batesville and Tom Martin Cooper Jr. of Memphis; two sisters, Earnestine McCain and Hattie Mae Fraizer, both of Batesville; 10 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.


Harrison, Georgia Marie
Clarksdale, Miss.

Georgia Marie Harrison, 72, of Clarksdale, died Thursday, September 2, 2004, in Clarksdale of heart failure.

Harrison was a graduate of South Panola High School, an usher at New Jerusalem M.B. Church and retired from NWMRMC laundry.

Services were Sunday at New Jerusalem M.B. Church. Burial was at Eureka Cemetery. Rev. J.B. Woods officiated. Century Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include her husband Lonnie Harrison of Clarksdale; two sons, Arlanders Cole of Clarksdale and Glenn Alexander of Grand Rapid, Mich.; two brothers, John Edward Bratcher of Memphis, Tenn. and Green E. Bratcher of Pope; two sisters, Effie Glasper of Memphis, Tenn. and Lanell Chapman of Pope and six grandchildren.


Harrison, Hettie
Hettie Harrison, 86, of Batesville, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Saturday at Spring Hill ASA M.B. Church in Courtland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Louis Wilson officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge.

Harrison, born May 30, 1917, to the late Monroe Dukes and late Cappa Blount Dukes, was a housewife and a member of Spring Hill ASA M.B. Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Minnie L. Darden and Blondie J. Brassell, both of Batesville, Annie C. Bryant of Chicago, Ill. and Jessie R. Perry of Detroit, Mich.; four sons, Willie C. Harrison and James P. Harrison, both of Batesville, Derrils Harrison of Courtland and Howard Harrison Jr. of Goodman; two brothers, Percy Dukes of Kansas City, Mo. and Edgar Dukes of Moro, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.


Harrison, Mary Lou Bailey
Sardis, Miss.
Mary Lou Bailey Harrison, 83, of Sardis, died Saturday, August 28, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn;

Harrison, born Feb. 9, 1921, to the late Claude and Eva White Bailey, was a homemaker and a member of the Collierville Church of Christ.

Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was at Crowder Cemetery. Les Bonnet officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Collie C. Harrison.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Harrison Lee of Colum, Ill. and Carolyn Tucker Porter of Harvey, Ill.; one son J.C. Harrison of Moscow, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.


Hawkins, Carl Elliot "Sonny"
Carl Elliot "Sonny" Hawkins, 75, of Batesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Services were Friday at Dickins Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Center Hill Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Charles Locke officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Hawkins, born on Feb. 8, 1928, to the late William Carl and the late Minnie Dovie Hollinger Hawkins, was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Elliot Hawkins and Lonnie Edward Hawkins, both of Batesville; three daughters, Mary Rachel Burlison, Betty Ann Burlison Hadorn and Linda Marie Hawkins Tubbs, all of Batesville; three brothers, W. T. Hawkins, Jimmy Dale Hawkins and Billie Jean Hawkins, all of Water Valley; two sisters, Nina Hawkins Carmical of Ohio and Linda Hawkins Heggins of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Jamie Edward Hadorn III, Sydnie Marie Tubbs and Barry Wayne Hadorn, all of Batesville, and Danny Elliot Burlison of Arkansas.

Hawkins was preceded in death by his wife Rachel Elizabeth Hawkins, one son Carl T. Burlison Jr. and a grandson Rusty Burlison.

Pallbearers were Barry Hadorn, Jimmy Hadorn, James Hadorn III, Dustin Sartin, Gary Martin and Granville Cruise Jr.


Hawkins, Roger Dale
Roger Dale Hawkins, 53, of Batesville, died Saturday, August 14, 2004, at Beverly Health Care in Batesville from injuries received in a car accident.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at National Funeral Home. Burial is in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Dr. Courtney Selvy will officiate. National Funeral Home has charge.

Hawkins, born July 19, 1951, was a retired musician who performed with numerous bands such as: Our Grandparents Children, Around Track, Borderline, South Bound, Thunder Road and Anything Goes, he won numerous awards with CHS Pioneer Band and graduated from Clarksdale High School. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis about 12 years ago.

He was preceded in death by his father C.L. Hawkins.

Survivors include his mother Hazel Hawkins of Clarksdale; one son Roger Craig Hawkins of Clarksdale; two sisters, Barbara Henderson of Crenshaw and Sandra Bryant of Batesville; one brother Tommy Hawkins of Greenwood and one grandchild Shelby Madison Graham of Clarksdale.

Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.


Hays, Carlton Conner Sr.
Senatobia, Miss.
Carlton Conner Hays Sr., 88, of Sardis, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Tuesday at Sardis United Methodist Church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Dr. Doyce Gunter officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Hays, born April 11, 1916, to William John and Grace Carlton Hays, was a farmer and served as president of North Panola School Board, chairman of Agricultural Soil Conservation Service and chairman of Administrative Board of Sardis United Methodist Church where he was a member.

Survivors include one daughter Sue Hays Cross of Birmingham, Ala.; one son Carlton Hays Jr. of Ridgeland; one brother Nathan Hays of Sardis; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Irby Hays.


Haynes, Hubert Hamilton
Lambert, MS
Hubert Hamilton Haynes, 88, of Lambert, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center of heart failure.

Services were Friday at the Lambert Baptist Church. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Haynes was a graduate of Lambert High School and attended Mississippi State University. He was one of the founders of County Day School, now known as Delta Academy. He served as president of North Gin Co. and the Farmers Grain Elevator of Lambert. He was a former board member of the Quitman County Hospital and a Lions Club member. He was on the Board of Directors of First Security Bank of Batesville for 24 years and a member of Lambert Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Beatrice Vandevender; one daughter Nell Wyatt; one son Don Haynes of Marks; two brothers, Andrew Lee Douglas and Frank Haynes, both of Lambert; one sister Helen Bailey of Olive Branch; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Mitzi Thom. All memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lambert or Delta Academy of Marks.

Adam Taylor Helmes, stillborn, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky.

Survivors include his parents, Jimmy Dale Helmes Jr. and Loretta Spencer of Franklin, Ky.; two sisters, Ashley Helmes and Haley Helmes, both of Franklin, Ky; grandparents, Jimmy Dale Helmes Sr. and Patricia Helmes, both of Pope, Juanita Shelton and Billy Bramlett, both of Batesville and Barbara Helmes of Courtland; great-grandparents, Grace Bramlett of Batesville, Etoyle Helmes of Batesville, Mildred Franks of Pope and Nellie and Knute Ramberg of McHenry, Ill.

Elontegary "Teg" Henderson, 35, of Crenshaw, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven.

Services are Saturday at Rose Chapel C.O.G.I.C. in Crenshaw. Burial will be in Longtown Cemetery. Rev. Larry Cozart will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Henderson, born June 10, 1968, to Walter and Dortha Franks Henderson, was a shift leader for Cracker Barrell and a member of St. Phillips M.B. Church in Sledge.

Survivors include her parents Walter and Dortha Franks Henderson of Crenshaw; two daughters, Telakisha Henderson and LaQuanda Henderson, both of Crenshaw; two sons, Rodreckques Henderson and Clydreckques Henderson, both of Crenshaw; two brothers, Walter Henderson Jr. of Crenshaw and Calvin Corley of Rolla, Mo.; seven sisters, Winnie Russell of Sardis, Denise Woods of Sledge, Mandra Henderson, Tonesha Henderson and Glenda Kirkwood, all of Crenshaw, Brenda Black of Como and Jamesetta Corley of Nashville; and three grandchildren.

Janie Ruth Henderson, 62, of Memphis, died Monday, July 9, 2004, at Methodist Hospital Central in Memphis.

Henderson, born Sept. 23, 1942, to the late Askew Haynes and the late Annie Ruth Ellis was a housewife.

Survivors include one daughter, Hettie Henderson of East St. Louis, Ill.; two sons, James Henderson and Tony Henderson, both of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Shirley Hewlett of Batesville and Ruby Turner of Sardis; six brothers,Eddie Harris of Chicago, Ill., David Towns Jr., Junior Lee Towns, Earnest Towns, James Harris and Joe Lee Towns, all of Batesville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.


Henry, Grace Edith Thompson
Batesville, Miss.

Grace Edith Thompson Henry, 79, of Batesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Henry, born March 14, 1925, to the late William Thomas and Edith Mae Matson Thompson, was a homemaker and a member of Tocowa Baptist Church.

Services were Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Shiloh Methodist Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Jon Burnham officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include three sons, Wallace Henry and Larry Henry, both of Batesville and Wayne Henry of Hernando; two daughters, Anne Raley of Banner and Betty Tutor of Courtland; three brothers, Clarence Thompson of Murfeesboro, Tenn., Gary Thompson of Batesville and Clinton "Toy" Thompson of Courtland; one sister, Shanon Barmer of Como;12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Herring, Little Angel

Little Angel Herring, infant, was stillborn on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Graveside services were Wednesday at Springhill Pope Church in Pope. Eddie Robinson & Son Funeral Directors had charge.


Herring, Paula Elizabeth
Paula Elizabeth Herring, 42, of Batesville, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at her residence of heart failure.

Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Como. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in Como. Rev. Wyvonia Woods-Harris and Rev. Norman Holliday will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Herring, born May 29, 1969, to the late Harold Leslie and Miram Hawkins Herring Jr., graduated from North Delta Academy and the University of Mississippi and worked as a workforce coordinator for Northwest Community College in Senatobia and as a Mary Kay consultant. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Como.

Survivors include a devoted companion Rodney Steele of Batesville; one daughter Emily Herring Burnett of Batesville; and her mother Miriam "Mimi" Hawkins Herring of Como.

Herron, Eileen Ruth "Honey"
Batesville, Miss.

Eileen Ruth "Honey" Herron, 69, of Batesville, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Herron was a registered nurse at South Panola Community Hospital for 50 years.

Memorial services are today at Bethany Independant Baptist Church, located at Eureka Road and Herbert Road in Batesville at 6 p.m. Memphis Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include her husband Philip Herron; one daughter, Dawn Friedman of Deerfield, Ill.; one son, Rick Herron of Courtland; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either the American Heart Association or a church of the donor’s choice.


Hickman, Mable
Batesville, Miss.
Mable Hickman, 90, of Batesville, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at Panama City Nursing Home in Panama City, Fla.

Services were Tuesday at Crowder Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Harvey Sewell and Rev. Larry Kilgore officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Hickman, born July 25, 1913, to the late John and May Thomas Little, was a homemaker and a member of Crowder Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son Charles Hickman of Panama City, Fla.; one brother Sammy Earl Little of Crowder; two sisters, Alice Roberson and Ruby Mae Darby, both of Crowder; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

All memorials may be made to Crowder Cemetery in Crowder. She was preceded in death by one son Raymond Russell Hickman.

Senatobia, Miss.

Margaret Armstrong Hill, 91, of Senatobia, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Desoto Baptist Hospital in Southaven.

Hill was a member of Shady Grove M.B. Church and a homemaker.

Services are 11 a.m. tomorrow at Gilmore Street Church of Christ in Senatobia. Burial is in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bemis Hill.

Survivors include two daughters, Mattie L. Austin and Dorothy Armstrong Newsom, both of Senatobia; two sons, Charles Armstrong of Hernando and Johnny Armstrong of Senatobia; 32 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.


Hill, William Floyd "Billy"
William Floyd Hill, 66, of Indianola, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville.

Graveside services were Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Lambert Cemetery. Rev. Laurie Jones officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Hill, born Aug. 26, 1937, was a member of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include one sister Shirley Ann Smith of Indianola.


Hines, Willie "Daniel"
Batesville, Miss.
Willie "Daniel" Hines, 65, of Batesville, died Sunday, August 1, 2004.

Services are Saturday at Sardis A.O.H. Church of God. Burial will be in East Batesville Cemetery. Bishop Jerry Ford will officiate. Hodges Funeral Home has charge.

Hines retired from Valley Foods in 1999 in Batesville. Over the years he was a member of numerous gospel groups from Memphis, Tenn. to Oxford. He was the president of the UMOJA Club.

Survivors include his wife Parthenia Hines of Batesville; four step-children, Alexander McKinney, Evelyn Brown, Carrie Bramlett, all of Batesville and Eva Dixon of Hazel Crest, Ill.; two sisters, Mattie Bratcher of Memphis, Tenn. and Hixie Hudson of Sardis and God-children, Benita Gavin of Batesville and Charles B. Booker of Oxford.


Hobbs, Lenetha
Lenetha Hobbs, 59, of Batesville, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Batesville. Burial was in West Camp Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Roosevelt Gage officiated. Cooley’s Motuary, Inc. had charge.
Hobbs, born Aug. 10, 1944, to the late Isiah and the late Gessie Kuykendall Hobbs, was a teacher at Green Hill Elementary School in Sardis and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Batesville. She was also a member of the Alpha Kappa Soroity.

Survivors include one son Marius Jones of Batesville; two brothers, Andrew Hobbs and George Hobbs, both of Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
    


Hobson , Joe Lewis Sr.
Joe Lewis Hobson Sr., 68, of Oxford, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

Services were Sunday at Salem United Methodist Church. Burial was in Salem Cemetery. Authur Herod officiated. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home had charge.

Hobson was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Myrtle P. Hobson of Oxford; two daughters, Sherry Hobson of Oxford and Mollie Bean of Pontotoc; four sons, Joe Willie Hobson of Okolona, Tommy Hobson of Pontotoc, Joe Hobson Jr. and Alvis Hobson, both of Oxford; three sisters and two brothers; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.


Hollenbeck, John Kent
John Kent Hollenbeck, 53 of Batesville, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville of a heart attack.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Kevin Crofford will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Hollenbeck, born April 11, 1950, to Jack and Billie Hollenbeck, graduated from Mississippi State University and was a retired funeral director from Kimbro Funeral Home. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Jan Hollenbeck of Batesville; two brothers, Brian Hollenbeck of Powell, Wyo. and Joel Hollenbeck of Gillette, Wyo.; and his parents Jack and Billie Hollenbeck of Sheridan, Wyo.

Holcombe, Nettie Brewer
Nettie Brewer Holcombe, 85, formerly of Darling, died Sunday, September 5, 2004, at Grenada Lake Nursing Home of heart failure.

Holcombe, born July 24, 1919, was a member of Crenshaw Baptist Church.

Services were Wednesday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial was at Marks Cemetery. Rev. S.D. Johnson and Rev. Clint Harris officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Clyde Holcombe.

Survivors include four nieces, Rachel Brown of Grenada, Linda Gallagher of Gulfport, Betty Gurley of Marks and Jimmie Faye Sneed of Darling; one half-brother Emmitt Whitten of Tocowa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Holmes, Reedie Guy Jr.
Reedie Guy Holmes Jr., 56, of Batesville, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Wednesday at New Hope M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Jacob Hentz officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary Inc. had charge.

Holmes, born May 4, 1948, to the late Reedie Guy Holmes and the late Priscilla Hamilton Holmes, was a member of New Hope M. B. Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Rudd Phillips and Kristen Rudd, both of Batesville; four sons, Latroy Rudd, Kendrick Rudd, Wayne Carr and Randy Wright, all of Batesville; one sister Vetrine Fox; three brothers, Cornelious James of Batesville and F. R. Holmes and J.L. Holmes, both of Milwaukee, Wis.; and seven grandchildren.

Ruth Stallings Goss Holstine, 81, of Batesville, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Rusty Robertson officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Holstine, born Sept. 27, 1922, to the late Sandy Jack and Minnie Vance Stallings, was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Holstine.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Goss of Southaven, Sandie Goss of Pope and David Goss of Batesville; one brother Billy L. Stallings of Marks; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Hoskins, 41, of Batesville, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Monday at New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. W.L. Nash officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge.

Hoskins, born July 21, 1962, to Hollis Hoskins Jr. and Doris Buckley Hoskins, was a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville.

Survivors include one son Kenneth Hoskins Jr. of Memphis; six sisters, Earniece Hoskins Foster of Memphis, Jean Hoskins of Frameingham, Mass, Valarie Shegog of Woodbridge, Va., Idella Ware of Elkhart, Ind., Hattie Buckley DeJohnette of Chicago, Ill., and Linda Sutton of Kansas City, Kan.; and three brothers, Ronald Hoskins and Ira James Hoskins, both of Batesville and Harvey Buckley of Elkhart, Ind.

Hoskins, born August 5, 1928, to the late Henry Hoskins and the late Carrie Lloyd Hoskins, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn.

Survivors include four daughters, Rosemary Childs of Moline, Ill., Barbara Johnson and Jenny Hoskins, both of Detroit, Mich., and Patricia Collins of Youngstown, Ohio; four sons, Henry Hoskins and Jake Hoskins, both of Detroit, Mich., Dexter Hoskins and Keith Hoskins, both of Memphis; four sisters, Ruthie Ellis, Maggie Shegog and Bernice Ellis, all of St. Louis, Mo. and Everliner Classberry of Kankakee, Ill.; his niece who cared for him, Eloise Robertson; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Shirley Howard, 53, of Como, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis.

Howell, born March 30, 1925, to Newell Carl Brooks and Zettie Mae Greer Brooks, was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Paul Terry Howell of Pontotoc; Carl Alexander Howell of Courtland and Joseph Everette Howell of Batesville; two daughters, Bettye Faye Howell Shows of Batesville and Doretha Sue Howell of Tutwiler; one sister Bertha McAteer of Southaven; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

     Howell, born April 23, 1996, to David E. Howell, was a third grade student at Batesville Intermediate School and a member of Adonai Church.

Howell Batesville; one step-sister Lakin Russell of Crossett, Ark.; one step-brother Case Greaver of Crossett, Ark. and his grandparents Rev. Claudette Davis Hoyt, 71, of Batesville, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis of heart failure.

Hoyt, born Aug. 22, 1933, to the late Claude Jennings and the late Mildred Brasel Davis, was a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church, served in the United States Navy and was a retired executive for Sears and Roebuck.

Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dr. Jon Burnham officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include one son John Michael Hoyt of Juliet, Ga.; one sister Eleanor Raye Davis Waldrup of Batesville and two grandchildren.


Hubbard, James Robert Sr.
James Robert Hubbard Sr., 85, of Pontotoc, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Services were Sunday at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Burial was in Pontotoc City Cemetery. Dr. David Hamilton, Judge Charles Thomas and Judge Jimmy Roberts officiated. Browning Funeral Home had charge.

Hubbard was born in Panola County and moved to Pontotoc where he lived from 1950 to his death. He served as Chief of Police in Pontotoc from 1958 to 1971, and served as sheriff from 1972 to 1984.

Survivors include one son James Robert Hubbard Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother Hewlett Hubbard; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Hewlett Hubbard and Ada Pitcock; his wife Clara Hubbard; and one daughter Kitty Hubbard Miller.

Gatha Hudson, 92, died Thursday, July 8, 2004.

Graveside services were Monday at South Kern Cemetery District in Arvin, Calif.

She was born in Tula.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Bennett of Oklahoma City, Okla., Annie Ashmore of Tehachapi, Calif, Gatha Lindsey of Bakersfield, Calif. and Sue Ryan of Jena, La.; one son James “Buddy” Hudson of Batesville; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 17 great, great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Hudson; two daughters, Janie Watts and Nancy Hudson; and one son William Hudson.

Huddleston, born Sept. 6, 1898, was a retired merchant and business owner and a member of Crowder Assembly of God.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jimmie Atwood Huddleston.

Survivors include one daughter Bettye White of Riegelwood, N.C.; one son James B. Huddleson of Memphis; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and his caregiver, Eunice Maxey of Lambert.
