Cain, born May 19, 1924, to Ashley and Eller Bell Shell Cain, was a retired minister of the First United Pentecostal Church of Senatobia, which he founded and was a well known retired water well contractor throughout North Mississippi.

Services are April 1, 2004, at First United Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery in Kosciusko. Rev. Steve Cannon and Rev. John Goodhue will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Cain, born July 22, 1920, to the late Cass and late Sally Potts Cain, was a security guard and a veteran of WWII in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife Edna Howard Cain of Marks; 10 sons, Anthony Cain of Portland, Ore., David Cain of Searcy, Ark., Phillip Cain of Batesville, Sammy Cain of Marks, Jimmy McLain of Davie, Fla., John King, Jason King, Joel King, Justin King and Jeffery King, all of Clarksdale; three daughters, Debbre Miller of Memphis, Kelli Kelly of Noxapater and Janie Kendall of Oxford; one sister Mable Reed of Marks; 30 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

Calvert, born April 10, 1932, was retired from Panola Mills, was a U.S. Army veteran, member of the American Legion and a member of Crowder Baptist Church.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Crowder Baptist Church. Burial is in Crowder Cemetery. Rev. Larry Kilgore will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy H. Calvert of Crowder; two sons, Jack Calvert III of Crowder and Larry Calvert of Marks; two daughters, Ellen Parker of Marks and Carrie McGovern of Sardis; two sisters, Geraldine Bridges of Lambert and Annie Griffith of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

There will be a private memorial service at a later date. The family will be receiving friends Saturday at Ginger Mitchell’s home, 959 Shady Grove Rd., in Lyon from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. National Funeral Home had charge.

Camire, born Nov. 22, 1925 in Lowell, Mass., was the retired owner of Clarksdale Auto Electric, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of VFW Post #3936.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. Burial will be in Camp Family Cemetery in Water Valley. Rev. Ronald Jenkins and Rev. Elvis Vance will officiate. Parker Funeral Home has charge.

Camp, born Aug. 22, 1925, to Leroy Camp and Lillie Wright Camp, was a heavy equipment operator and farmer. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army as Staff Sgt. He was also a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Water Valley.

Campbell, born January 8, 1926, to the late James Jefferson and the late Lois Griffis Campbell, was a member of First Baptist Church and a retired factory worker for Muscle Shoals Rubber Company of Batesville.

Cannon served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a corporal. He was a member of Pine Flat United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing Rook, fishing, hunting and gardening. Cannon was a retired warehouse manager for Crooks Terminal in Chicago, Ill.

Survivors include his wife Sylvia Sanders Cannon of Batesville; one daughter Donna Acanfora of Valparaiso, Ind.; two sons, Larry G. Cannon of Charleston, Ill. and Dennis N. Cannon of Valparaiso, Ind.; two sisters, Corine Rose of Courtland and Dorothy Upchurch of Water Valley; one brother Elroy Cannon of Spokane, Wa.; and seven grandchildren.

Carlisle, born May 26, 1919, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marks and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Carpenter, born June 28, 1936, to Harvey and Della Mae Reed Carlisle, was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Tunica.

Caruthers, born Oct. 11, 1931, to the late James "Jack" Childress and the late Ethel Taylor Childress, was a clerk for the Dept. of Human Services and a member of Union Baptist Church near Sardis.

Survivors include one daughter Suzan Hyde of Sardis; two sons, Charles Caruthers Jr. of Kosciusko and Scott Caruthers of Sardis; and four grandchildren.

Cathey, born Feb. 20, 1946, to the late Coleman Cathey and the late Pearlean Kerney Cathey, was a factory worker for Chromcraft and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church. He was also an usher.

Cavness, born April 28, 1941, to the late Adam Gullick and the late Cora Spencer, was a graduate of Phillips Community College and a Baptist.

Chapman, born Sept. 5, 1922, to the late Nunnie Marberry and the late Sarah Dale Hawkins Marberry, was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Herbert William Chapman of Batesville; one son Jackie Chapman; one daughter Sherry Chapman Fink of Batesville; and one grandchild.

Childress, born Nov. 22, 1918, to the late George Andrews and late Cappie Durham Scallorn, was a secretary for Home Insurance in Memphis and a member of Sardis Church of Christ.

Mr. Childs was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Batesville to the late James William and Nettie Frances Varner Childs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mill Childs, of 64 years, his two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his daughter Martha Jo Childs Hall and her husband Don Hall of Batesville; one sister Elizabeth Childs Browning of Batesville; and one brother Edward Childs of Hernando; two granddaughters, Lisa Hartman and her husband Gary of Batesville and Kathy Barber and her husband Mark of Pensacola, Fla.; two step-grandchildren, Don Hall Jr. and Rene Deyoung of Olive Branch. He is also survived by one great-grandson Joshua Childs Thomason and four great-granddaughters.

Mr. Childs lived his entire life in the Mt. Olivet Community. He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church for over 80 years, where he held many offices through the years. He was also a mason. Mr. Childs was a farmer in his earlier years and worked to build the Sardis Dam. He also drove a school bus for many years and worked for Mrs. Alice Chambers. In his later years he was employed by Panola County.

Mr. Childs loved life and never met a stranger. He had recently celebrated his 95th birthday with many family and friends.

Cockrell, born Aug. 23, 1936, was a retired tankerman with CGI.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Cockrell of St. Amant, La.; two brothers, Terell Cockrell of Pope and Gerald Cockrell of Memphis, Tenn.

Coleman, born May 31, 1916, to the late George Scallorn and the late Cappie Durham Scallorn, was a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church.

Connard was a retired Army SS E6, employed by Quebeca Printing and was a member of Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ when he was a child growing up.

Conner, born Jan. 1, 1976 in Batesville, to Freeman Allen Hentz and Lorine Ellis Conner, both of Batesville, was a laborer for Thermos Company and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis.

Cook, born July 1, 1949, to the late William Leslie and the late Mary Elizabeth Roberts Cook, was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Cook was serving his second year as Rotary Assistant Governor of District 6800. He had responsibility for Batesville, Clarksdale, Como, Quitman County, Sardis and Senatobia as part of the Rotary Club. He joined the Rotary Club of Batesville in 1984 and served two terms as President. During his tenure, the Batesville Club has achieved the largest single year membership gain in the history of the club and won the District 6800 Award for membership development. He has been named a Paul Harris Fellow by the club for outstanding achievement and services.

Cook practiced law in Batesville for the last 24 years. He was listed in "Who’s Who in American Law" and served as President of the Panola County Bar Association, as well as the Board of Directors of the Young Lawyers Section of the Mississippi State Bar. He served as a member of the Mississippi State Board of Bar Admissions and as chairperson of the Bar’s Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law. He was a former member of the Bar’s Ethics Committee. He served on numerous committees as a member of the American Bar Association, and the American and Mississippi Trial Lawyers Associations. He was a shriner and a mason.

Cook received both his bachelor of arts and Juris Doctor degrees from Ole Miss, where he was awarded membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, national honorary leadership and scholastic society. He was a member of the Ole Miss Law School’s Lamar Order and past officer of the Panola County Ole Miss Alumni Association.

Cook was a licensed pilot and his hobbies included flying and traveling with his wife and family.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jo Dorr Cook of Batesville; one daughter Maribeth Cook of Batesville; two sons, Leslie Patton Cook and Wiliam Roberts Cook, both of Batesville; and one brother Robert Calvin "Bob" Cook of Germantown.

Cooke, born June 30, 1907, was a homemaker and a member of West Marks Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son William Raymond Cooke of Mobile, Ala.; six daughters, Olene Phillips of Dyserburg, Tenn., Maxine Mullins of Starkville, Vivian Verno of Peoria, Ariz., Betty Barnes of Filmore, N.Y., Mavis Greene of Muscle Shoals, Ala. and Linda Foster of Grenada; two brothers, Julian Gore of Huntsville, Ala. and Howard Gore of Aurora, Colo.; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 12 great great-grandchildren.

Coopwood was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Cotton, born Dec. 15, 1956, to the late James Beatty and late Muriel Lucille Millette Cotton, was a member of Central Academy Church of Christ.

Cox, born Feb. 2, 1973, to the late Bobby Ray Bolen and Lois Ann Burns Bolen, was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son Brian Ray Cox of Batesville; her mother Lois Ann Burnes Bolen of Batesville; and a grandmother Lila Faye Burns of Batesville.

He was an employee of the South Panola School District and a retired truck driver.

Craddler, born Jan. 8, 1943, was a member of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church.

Crawley, born July 7, 1928, to the late Joe and the late Cordie Bridwell Crawley, was a retired pipe welder.

Criddle, born Sept. 7, 1938, to the late John O’Reilly and the late Velma Fontaine Todd, was an employee at Barth Manufacturing.

Crouch, born Sept. 26, 1920, to the late James Monroe and Edna Delene Bankston Crouch, was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a maintenance supervisor for Ford Motor Company in Sharonville, Ohio before retiring after 30 years. He enjoyed working on cars, yard work and fishing. He was a member of Woodlake Assembly of God.

Survivors include one daughter Iva Tatum of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sons, Darwin "Danny" Ray Crouch of Prescott, Ariz. and James Crouch of Bixby, Okla; three brothers, Eugene Crouch and Elliot Crouch, both of Batesville and Wilbourn Crouch of Mindenmines, Mo.; two sisters, Clara Murphy of Batesville and Lucille Inman of Athens, Ala.; and one grandchild.

Crowell and his partner, Herb Sane, of Parrottsville founded the tire company in 1982. Before that, they had worked together many years at Newport Industrial Products, (later Ace Products) the Newport Firestone tire manufacturing plant.

One of his close friends and former co-workers was Fred Mobley, former Firestone plant manager, who said that Crowell was " a very devout Christian and will be sadly missed."

"Floyd always had this yearning to own a recapping and retreading business. In 1982, his dream was realized when he resigned from Ace Products and with Herb Sane they started East Tennessee Tire & Retreading Company," said Mobley.

Crowell was born in Batesville and graduated from Panola County High School, Northwest Junior College in Senatobia and got his degree from Mississippi State University at Starkville.

He studied industrial management and got his first job with Firestone Corporation in Memphis as a supervisor in the reclaiming division.

In 1961, he married the former Bettie Kinard of Louisville. They have one son Mike Crowell. In 1970, he was transferred to the Newport Industrial Products (later Ace Products) plant where he was the production manager. He and his wife moved to Morristown in 1969.

Rubber products made at the Newport plant were semi-pneumatic tires, which were used on agricultural equipment, lawn and garden equipment and toys. In 1981, Firestone sold the plant to Ace Products. Crowell stayed on and helped the company expand the plant by adding rubber mixing equipment and new lines of products. He was instrumental in the start-up of the new equipment and products and later used his vast knowledge and experience to build his own company.

After Sane retired from East Tenn. Tire, Crowell’s son, Mike joined the business fulltime as co-owner, although he had heled for many years while attending high school and Carson-Newman College.
After his long illness of colon cancer, Crowell passed on Saturday, March 27, 2004. Graveside services were Tuesday at First Hamblen Memory Gardens of Morristown. Allen’s Funeral Home had charge.
