Alewine, Dolly Ophelia Ragon
Dolly Ophelia Ragon Alewine, 87, of Batesville, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville of heart failure.

Services were Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery in Pope. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Alewine was a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Danny Alewine and Steve Alewine, both of Courtland and David Alewine of Itta Bena; five daughters, Carol Cook of Como, Ann Hudspeth and Claudette Wages, both of Senatobia, Delrose Cook of Courtland and Frances Garrison of Sardis; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fletcher Claude Alewine.


Alexander, Barbara Ann Golden
Barbara Ann Golden Alexander, 54, of Marks, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks.

Alexander, born Dec. 13, 1949, was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Lambert. Burial will be in Marks Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Bell will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include her husband Bobby Alexander of Marks; one daughter Renee Rodgers of Marks; two sons, Joe Dunn of Fairburn, Ga. and Brock Dunn of Gainesville, Ga.; two step-sons, Ricky Alexander of New Albany and Stevie Alexander of Poplarville; four sisters, Peggy Clemmor, Jane Roberson and Irene Smith, all of Lambert and Lorene Morgan of Marks; eight brothers, Earl Golden, John Golden, and Floyd Golden, all of Marks, Junior Golden of Oakland, Jake Pruett of Quitman, C.W. Pruett of Ripley, Gene Golden of Crowder and Vernon Golden of Lambert; 8 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Charity Hospice of Marks.


Allen, Catherine Emily Metzger Pattridge
Batesville
Catherine Emily Metzger Pattridge Allen, 78, of Batesville, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at her residence.
Memorial services were Thursday at her home on Barnacre Road. Rev. Gary Berry and Carl Brown officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Pattridge, born July 21, 1925, worked with many organizations including 4-H Clubs of Mississippi, Cattleman’s Association, Delta Council and Girl Scouts of America. She was also involved with the Batesville Garden Club, the Garden Clubs of Mississippi and Batesville Friends of the Library. Her awards included Delta Council Achievement Award for Outstanding Producer of Purebred Beef Cattle, First Woman to be named Cattleman-of-the-Year by the Panola County Cattlemen’s Association, Honorary Chapter Farmer with Future Farmers of America and numerous other awards.

Survivors include her husband William Wade Allen of Batesville; three daughters, Catherine Pattridge Cole of Memphis, Susan Pattridge Berryhill of Dublin and Mary Nell Pattridge Sturgeon of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Peter John Pattridge of Batesville and David Joseph Pattridge of Shreveport, La.; two step-daughters, Lisa Allen of Birmingham, Ala. and Leslye Allen Koch of Memphis; and 14 grandchildren.

Allred, Vadis B.
Sardis, MS

Vadis B. Allred, 87, of Sardis, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Graceland Nursing Home in Oxford of heart failure.

Services were Monday at Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Rev. Mike Allred, Rev. Roy Hartzell and Mr. Joe Barnett officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Allred, born Nov. 14, 1916, to the late Esker and late Lottie Mae Inman Blount, was a homemaker and a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

Surviors include her husband Travis Allred of Sardis; five daughters, Barbara Nell Allred Potts of Batesville, Peggy Allred Barber of Senatobia; Patsy Allred Turner and Judy Allred Parker, both of Leland and Denise Allred Glover of Red Bay, Ala.; four sons, Caris Allred of Tupelo, Troy Allred of Sardis, Ronnie Allred of Jonesboro, Ark. and Mickey Allred of Southaven; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 19 great great-grandchildren.


Anderson, J.B. "Rabbit"
Batesville, MS

J.B. "Rabbit" Anderson, 83, of Batesville, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at his residence.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Batesville. Rev. E.K. Gordon and Rev. Doug Pepper officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Anderson, born Aug. 6, 1920, to the late Jesse Lee and late Lym Mae Eley Anderson, was a retired Panola County Supervisor and a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie Shipp Anderson of Batesville; four sons, Eley Kenny Anderson, Robert Darrin Anderson and Bobby Bates Anderson, all of Batesville and Jessie Bates "Jay" Anderson of Ringgold, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Anderson, William A.
William A. Anderson, 51, of Sardis, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Services are tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Hammond Hill M.B. Church in Como. Visitation is today from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Burial is in the church cemetery. Rev. Isiah Slack will officiate. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Anderson, born Sept. 21, 1953, was a factory worker and a member of Hammond Hill M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his father Edgar Anderson Jr.

Survivors include his wife Tiwatza Anderson of Sardis; his mother Laura B. Anderson of Como; two daughters, Brittany Anderson and Kimberly Pigues, both of Sardis; seven sisters, Linda Ransom, Shirley Faulkner and Barbara Glover, all of Como, Patricia Ford of Augusta, Ga., Virginia Taylor of Memphis, Tenn. and Jacqueline Glover of Atlanta, Ga.; four brothers, Cleophus Anderson and John R. Anderson, both of Memphis, Tenn., Willie S. Anderson of Como and Larry Glover of Nashville, Tenn. and one grandchild.


Appleton, William Brooks
William Brooks Appleton, 61, of Batesville, died Monday, September 20, 2004, at The University Medical Center in Jackson of heart failure.

Appleton, born Aug. 8, 1943, to the late James A. and Mary B. Martin Appleton, was a member of First Baptist Church of Sardis and a former construction worker.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cold Springs Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Sanford officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Miriam Elaine Whitehurst Appleton of Batesville; two daughters, Caralene Appleton Meadows of Sardis and Amber Lynn Appleton of Batesville; one step-daughter Cynthia E. Hayels of Batesville; one step-son Casey Easley of Brookhaven; two sisters, Maxine Appleton Perkins of Washington, Ill. and Patricia Appleton Segars of Batesville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


Armstrong, James
Como, Miss.

James Armstrong, 79, of Como, died Friday, Oct. 29, at his residence.

Armstrong was a retired house painter and a member of McIvor M.B. Church.

Services were Saturday at McIvor M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was in McIvor Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Betty B. Armstrong; six daughters, Clara R. Kimmons, Bobby J. Renix and Louella Brassell, all of Sardis, Betty A. Bishop of Memphis, Tenn., Lillian Armstrong of Como and Brunell A. Cook of Oxford; five sons, Anthony Wilbourn, Charles Wilbourn, James Armstrong Jr. and Billy Armstrong, all of Como and Will A. Armstrong of Sardis; two sisters, Willie Mae Renix and Gracie Mae Partee, both of Como; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.


Arnold, Elizabeth Seabrook
Elizabeth Seabrook Arnold, 97, widow of the late Capt. Malcolm W. Arnold, USN of Batesville, passed away on March 27, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville. Mrs. Arnold was born Jan. 29, 1907, in Fairfield, Pa. She was a graduate of Hood College in Frederick, Md. and a 1929 graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md. She met her late husband while he was in medical school at Johns Hopkins and they married in 1931 after both had been graduated.

Dr. Arnold entered the Navy Medical Corps in 1931 and Mrs. Arnold became a homemaker during her husband’s 34 year naval career. She made a home for her family in many different locations including Washington, D.C., Annapolis, Md., Agana, Guam, Gulfport, MS, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, St. Albans, N.Y and several others.

Mrs. Arnold was a resident at Fairfield of Batesville for the past two years. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Margaret Kessel of Fairfield, Pa., two sons, Malcolm Wesley Arnold Jr. of Batesville and Kenneth Hamilton Arnold of Seattle, Wash., six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Interment will be at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church at 119 Panola Ave., Batesville, MS 38606


Arnold, Ruthie "Ruth" Pritchard
Batesville, MS
Ruthie Pritchard Arnold, 58, of Batesville, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Services were Sunday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Batesville-Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Jess Chadwick officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Arnold, born Dec. 10, 1945, to the late Paul G. Pritchard and Margaret Finch Pritchard of Sardis, was an employee trainer for servers at Cracker Barrell in Batesville.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband Larry Arnold of Batesville; one son Lawrence "Larry" Arnold of Saint Marys, Ga.; one daughter Teresa Towles of Batesville; four brothers, Paul Gaines Pritchard and Jimmy Pritchard, both of Worth, Ill., Harold Pritchard of Cordova, Tenn. and Dale Pritchard of Batesville; and five grandchildren.
