Inmate caught after jail escape Razor wire cuts man

An inmate of the Panola County Detention Center had about two hours of freedom following a jail break on Saturday morning.
According to Jail Administrator Shot Bright, Freddie Hudspeth Jr., who is incarcerated on charges of burglary of a building other than a dwelling and petit larceny, scaled the 15 ft. tall fence surrounding the jail at approximately 8:30 a.m.
"Within a matter of minutes, there were several deputies on hand as well as the Lafayette County K-9 unit and the helicopter from DeSoto County," Bright said.
Bright said this was the first escape since the new jail opened eight years ago.
"Hudspeth was so small that he managed to get to the corner of the fence during recreation time and climb the fence before anyone could stop him," he said.
The deputy on watch quickly called for help to get the inmate back into custody, he said.
Three Tri-Lakes proposals under review this week

There are three proposals on the table to either buy or manage Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Opened Friday at a joint meeting of the Panola County Board of Supervisors and Batesville Mayor and Board of Aldermen were proposals from:
– Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation of Memphis
– Triad Hospital, Inc., of Plano, Texas
– Tri-Lakes Medical Center Board of Trustees under the management of Dr. Bob Corkern.
Baptist is a not-for-profit corporation and Triad is a for-project corporation, according to J.C. Burns of Burns Development Group.
Burns said Triad owns Quorum – a consulting firm that has done work for the present board of trustees of Tri-Lakes.

Students in the North Panola School District are improving by leaps and bounds in one area of their school work.
During a meeting of the North Panola School District Board of Trustees, Claiborne Barksdale of the Barksdale Reading Institute gave an inside look at what the people involved with Barksdale do to help children improve their reading skills.
The Barksdale Reading Institute administers grants to schools to help improve literacy in the student body made up of children in grades K through 3.
"We have made outstanding improvements during our three years at Crenshaw Elementary," he said. "Recent test results showed the majority of the students are reading at or above their grade level.
"In addition to that, Crenshaw has received a level three accreditation rating and could receive level four status next year," he said.
