No. 1 Tigers to scrap with No. 13 Chargers

BATESVILLE – The No. 1 undefeated South Panola Tigers (8-0 overall, 4-0 district) will once again put their record on the line when they travel north to No. 13 Southaven Charger territory tonight.
Over the past few weeks the Chargers have had a lot of attention focused on them as they have played some tough teams close or actually upset some.
The notoriety for the Chargers began to grow as they defeated Clarksdale 21-14, Sept. 19. The next week against Olive Branch was a nailbiter but the Chargers emerged with a one point victory, 21-20.

Green Wave must win for a chance in playoffs

The North Delta Green Wave (5-3 overall, 3-1, district) will travel to West Memphis, Ark., to meet the West Memphis Black Knights, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
The Green Wave are coming off a big, emotional win over the Marvell Eagles, who were undefeated at the time, last Friday night.
The game against against Marvell was a big conference win for the Green Wave. Green Wave head coach Rick Johnston said his team played a really good football game last week and came out on top 27-20. Johnston told his team they probably played about three-and-a-half quarters last week and they have to to play four this week.
"Anytime you are getting better and better every game, you are improving and this is the time that you want to be," Johnston said.
Johnston praised the Marvell team and said his team was really fired up after beating Marvell.

Big contest looms for Cougars tonight

SARDIS – North Panola will face one of the biggest contests of its life when the Senatobia Warriors (5-3 overall, 3-1 district) visit Cougar field tonight.
This 3-3A matchup will determine the Cougars placement in the playoffs this season.
This is the first time since 1996 the Cougars (4-4 overall, 3-2 district) have made the playoffs.
What followed that season were seven years of teams with little hope of ever seeing a playoff berth.
This year first year head coach Brown Walker has taken the team through some insecure times of not knowing who the head coach would be to a team to be contended with.
Each of the games the Cougars have been involved in this year have been played close. Last week they were a hairsbreadth away from walking away with a win over the ever tough Cleveland team.
Splitend/defensive back Jarell Lantern had one defender to beat before he would have returned a punt for a touchdown.
"I just needed one more block," Lantern said.
About those close games, Walker said close only counts in horseshoes.
